What a beautiful hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Every questioned was answered and every problem solved.
Things I loved about this hotel...
1. The beds are the most comfotable of any I have ever slept on.
2. Location. The hotel is along the river and and esy walk to downtown
3. View
Things I didnt like about this hotel..
1. No balconies in the rooms
2. No safes in room
3. A bit pricey if you dont use travel sites
This is the place to stay if you are in Portland.

Great location!!!
The staff were fantastic. They went out of their way to assist with each and every question we had whether it was regarding parking in the area to great spots to check out on a Saturday night.
Back to the location. IF you are tired from walking around D/T Portland, there is a variety of restaurants and small eateries along the water adjacent to the hotel.
The beds were amazing. I could have slept until noon easily.
Great bathroom too. As funny as it sounds, it had a nice deep bath tub and great water pressure.
I will stay here again for sure.
We got a great rate of 113/night on Hotwire. Well worth it!! -

We attended a family wedding here on August 20th. Everything was beautiful-from the view on the deck where the nuptials took place to the room where the reception was.
The food at the reception was marvelous-much better than many buffet lines I have been to at even swankier hotels. All of the staff was kind and seemed genuinely happy and it was a lovely affair.
There were only 2 drawbacks:
1. For a late afternoon wedding, there were not enough umbrellas for shade on one side of the deck.
2. There was a definite lack of elevators available to get from the nuptial site to the reception area and no signs indicating where the stairwell was.
Wine and beer were free flowing at the reception but for some, something a little stronger was in order and a cousin told me that prices for drinks at the main bar were super expensive. 2 cocktails cost $30! -

I have mixed feelings about Riverplace. I'd say somewhere between a three and four star hotel. The bed was ridiculously comfy and the hotel staff was very accommodating.
For the price, the room was extremely small. No bigger than bedroom size. We only stayed for a night and spent very little time in the room, so I didn't really mind. That being said, I wouldn't choose this hotel for a longer stay given the small room size. -

The rooms are nice but the bar with the outside seating (heated) is the place to kick back and listen to the live piano playing inside not bad..

Here for a one night stay. Very nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff. We had brought our eight month old daughter and the hotel was able to recommend an excellent babysitting service that came to our room so we could go out to dinner.
Would definitely stay here again. -

Having stayed in some places that are known as "Five Star Plus," I really wasn't overly impressed with this hotel FOR THEIR LISTED PRICE. I think it's worth saying that because I read the other reviews and saw that people paid $60-100, which is incredible. But their listed prices for the room we experienced were not worth the price.
We spent our time in the Fireplace Suite, which was very nice, a quasi-corner room with great views and, as mentioned, a fireplace, which came with two three-hour logs and a little card reminding us that there was more than that came from. Great TV and everything you'd expect. But really it was the littler things that made it not worth the whopping $400 pricetag.
The sliding doors between the living area, bathroom, and bedroom (all of which are quite small) are flimsy. Extremely flimsy. There is no sort of sound barrier, if you know what I mean, or fan of any sort to make you feel like you have privacy. I was there with in-laws which made this a rather weird sort of thing.
Also, a single-person Whirlpool? That's nice and all but for a Fireplace Suite that caters to romantic couples that's a little silly...for $400 a night one would think they'd be a little roomier.
The downstairs staff was very kind although they seemed short-staffed. The little aspects of trying to be classier were appreciated but easily seen-through. Strawberry-cucumber infused water is very chic, but the little Dixie cups stacked around to collect it in gives it away as being more of an attempt than a success at fancypantsiness.
I appreciate the good service and the size, and I'd recommend someone stay here if the aspects they're looking for match up with what the hotel offers...if not, I wouldn't spend the money, or I'd spend it somewhere where I was going to get its worth. I was glad we weren't staying at one of the giant 'luxury' hotels, but I also wasn't fully satisfied with the value of the purchase. -

We stayed at this hotel for a week - booked a package on the travelportland website. Our room was nice, with a great view. Bathroom was tiny. Breakfast was delicious, but the hostess was odd. On the third day, she greeted us with "are you guys still here?"
I had a cold, and someone in the kitchen actually grated some fresh horseradish for me on morning - that was amazing (and cleared my head enough to breathe for a few hours).
Valet was understaffed.
Biggest reason for three stars is that upon checkout - I reviewed the bill - they charged us for parking every night - parking was included in the package. I pointed this out, and the staff member looked at the screen and promptly said "you are right, I'll fix that." If it was so easy for her to tell that parking was included, it should have been that easy for it NOT to be on the bill. Could have been a simple mistake, but I wonder how many people have paid for parking when they shouldn't have. -

This hotel is in a great location if you want to be close to the river. If you are looking to spend time downtown, then you will want to look elsewhere. It's one of the few Portland hotels that is close to downtown, but not real convenient for getting into the middle of the city on foot.
I have stayed here twice, both times in a suite, so I can't speak for the standard rooms. My stay on both occasions was excellent. I have recommended this hotel several times for both business and pleasure, and each time it has resulted in a great experience. -

I'm beginning to really appreciate all the Larkspur hotels. So far this is the second Larkspur hotel we've stayed at (the other was the Larkspur Landing in San Francisco) and they have done a fantastic job at making their guests feel welcomed with spectacular accommodations. Our room was lovely, comfortable and incredibly spacious with a huge floor to sky window of the river, an incredibly comfortable bed you just sink into, FREE WIFI, and beautiful bathroom adorned with L'Occitane products. The hotel even goes as providing bikes for their guests to take out and we did just that on our last day with a memorable bike ride alongside the river and the bridges.
Parking was a little bit inconvenient since the public parking lot was a block away and their valet parking is a bit pricey ($30/night), but that didn't matter. I enjoyed my stay regardless. -

The Riverside is proof positive that booking blindly through sites like Hotwire can yield fantastic results!
A few months back, the BF and I decided to head up to Portland, which if I were counting favorite US cities on one hand, PDX is fo sho present and accounted for.
I had a free ticket from Jet Blue that was about to expire and a necessity to keep our jetset as cheap as possible so I decided to internet surf and came across the site that would lead me to the Riverside. Not ONLY did it lead me there but at $99 a night -- ! Which is crazy town!
The hotel is of the boutique variety (NOT normally $99 a night) and is adjacent to Tom McCall Park, right on the Willamette River's edge in downtown. This was perfect because we really only had two nights and one full day to enjoy ourselves before heading home and wanted to be able to walk around... It was a short trip but one well worth it!
I absolutely loved the hotel... our room was a nice size and though we didn't have a view of the river, the city is so lush and green I don't believe there is a bad view - period, regardless of where you are.
All of the bath toiletries are by L'Occitane en Provence, which I love, love, LOVE. I use L'Occitane bath products at home so I was super duper stoked that I had mini goodies to pilfer!
The shower was amazing, too... if I could transport the bathroom of the hotel to my home, it'd be a great life. Phenomenal.
And the bed? Really? THE most comfortable pillow top bed... I died and went to nap heaven and that is truly saying something as I have the most difficult time taking naps of any kind, especially when it is light outside and it is light outside in Portland in June until after NINE PM!!!!
I totally zzZZZzz'ed out though... and when we were packing our belongings to head to the airport I cursed, just for a minute, because there was no way in hell I was fitting that pillow top into my zippered carry-on overnight bag. Damnit.
That bed was so rad...Listed in: traveling...traveling, Portland, OR

Dear Santa,
I know that this is too soon since Christmas just passed a week ago, but I already have a request for a good thing you can bring me for next Christmas.
I want that Larkspur Collection FeatherBorne King bed like what they have at the Riverplace Hotel. The bed was so comfy outfitted with 250 thread count sheets, a quilted down comforter, a duvet cover and a selection of six pillows made me barely can't stay awake.
If that's too much to ask, maybe a gift certificate to stay at this nice hotel, will be just fine. What's not to love about this simple but elegant hotel? The price range of the hotel is from $159 a night, but you can get better deals through Priceline. I bid my recent stay there for $90 a night. You can't ask for more, they have it all from friendly staff, Three Degrees Restaurant on site, Room Service, Flat Screen TV, pretty big bath tub, and complimentary robes to wear while you are staying there.
I'll promise I'll be good this year. Hopefully, I will get what I want by Christmas. Thank you, Santa.
Yours,
Olivia -

I'm torn on this place. I had a fairly negative experience, for which the below review was penned -- but when I filled out their survey indicating all the things that were less than ideal, they immediately refunded my full stay, and the manager chatted on the phone with me about it. I was so impressed with their concern and professionalism in their follow-up that I'm bumping my rating up to three stars, because that evened out a lot of mu frustration. However, since there were a lot of issues with our stay that other customers would surely like to avoid, here's the original pissy review so you know what to pre-emptively ask about when you book.
---
This place is not worth the price tag. We were here for a wedding, which was lovely. But many aspects if the room itself kind of sucked.
First of all, their valet area is very understaffed, so there are frequently five different parties standing around waiting to hand off their keys, or waiting to be given keys to their present-but-locked vehicles. For stuff like wedding errands when everyone is frazzled and in a hurry, the 10+ minute wait was stupid. (And this is after calling and requesting that your car be brought out w/ plenty of notice.) They don't have a self-park option, either.
Second, the $200 room we were given had no bathtub, but instead, a lame edgeless shower that sprayed water all over the floor. And the room was *right* next to the noisy, busy elevator. In hindsight I'm pretty sure we got the handicapped-accessible suite. For the same price as the rooms with decent sound placement and normal bathroom amenities I was miffed, especially since I had specifically made sure there would be a tub when I booked over the phone. (Dude, it is *tiring* to be a bridesmaid. I wanted a friggin' hot bath and a good night's sleep after that madness!)
Lastly, they got my goddamn name wrong on the reservation, so they kept, like, not believing that it was actually my car and whatnot. Come on, Riverplace. Get your sh*t together! Even after I corrected them a bunch, each and every time, they never updated it and kept debating as to whether my car was my car until I busted out my insurance card and read the VIN.
...and the mattresses. And pillows. What the heck kind of hotel provides you deliberately shitty pillows along with a secret note in the nightstand drawer disclosing that you can exchange them for decent pillows at the front desk *upon request*? Is that some kind of weird new customer service ploy? And can I also exchange the shitty, squeaky, lumpy-ass mattress? -

I booked Riverplace Hotel via Priceline and while I'd been hoping for one of the more centrally downtown hotels, I ended up very satisfied with my experience here.
The hotel is situated charmingly on the waterfront park. The staff accommodated my request for an early check-in, which I appreciated. My room did not have much of a view at all (in fact, my window looked into another room's window across the way), but on the other hand, I was paying $65/night so not complaining! Besides getting a room without a view, I never felt like I was being treated differently because I booked on Priceline.
I found my room to be slightly bigger than average, complete with a desk area and a big flatscreen TV. Bed was oh-so-comfortable. The hotel seems quite new, as everything was very clean. Bathroom came with nice-smelling L'Occitane products. Room service menu looked appealing, but I ended up eating so much elsewhere that I never got to sample. Still, I got fed by the hotel: complimentary yummy chocolate chip cookies at the check-in desk in the late afternoon, chocolates by the pillow before bed. Other plusses included free wi-fi and convenient business center.
I had originally been concerned about the location of the hotel, but really, it's only about a 10-15 minute walk from downtown and it was not a problem at all. -

I attended an event here and was both surprised and impressed by their execution. The building itself is quite pleasant, with the additional bonus of being right on the water. Their hors d'oeuvres presentation and flavor was also friendly to the vegan/vegetarian and carnivore - a major plus.
Service staff was very friendly and patient with the occasionally difficult guests attending the event. A quality that's difficult to come by in DC. -

Here's a little secret I'm loathe to share: The Three Degrees bar and restaurant in this hotel has one of the best happy hours in the city. From 3-6 house cocktails (lemon drops, infused vodkas, the works) are a slim $3 and appetizers are similarly cheap. After 6pm the prices spike back up to $7 for cocktails and much more for food.
The Riverplace is located near the yacht club, nestled in next to the park and the base of the Hawthorne bridge. Around 5 you can get a seat on the patio and watch the dragon boat rowers do stretches and launch for their evening workout. Bikers, joggers, families, and every other inhabitant of the city pass by under your nose on the waterfront trail, and during most of the year the Canadian Geese can be seen chowing on grass or landing in the river.
The professional downtown crowd has discovered the bar and happy hour, but they're not there until 5 or later, which leads to my dearly coveted advice:
Pro Tip: Grab your laptop to take advantage of the free hotel wi-fi, and get a booth overlooking the river when happy hour starts at 3. Then enjoy several hours of work and cheap fancy drinks while you have the place to yourself!
This is also, naturally, a good place to bring clients, coworkers, or out-of-towners.Listed in: Patios! Soak up some sun!

Here's what I love: top-notch service, relaxing atmosphere, consistent and reliable
Here's what I hate: restaurant could be better
For over a year, I've been traveling to Portland on business and always stay at RiverPlace, which is now a Larkspur hotel. What that means is you won't feel like you're staying at yet another Marriott, but someplace infinitely more warm and special. It has all the amenities I need, such as a fast, free, good quality internet connection; peace and quiet; and extremely clean, comfortable surroundings. RiverPlace feels just like you're at home--if your home is incredibly posh and has a crack staff catering to your every whim.
I cannot say enough about how friendly and helpful the people are at RiverPlace. Whether it is a homemade cookie when you've just come in out of the rain, your choice of newspapers in the morning, or those little cards that warn you of impending weather, their personal touches help ease the stress of travelling. On one visit, I was ill and... ok I'll just state it: I threw up in the hallway. I phoned housekeeping to let them know and the first thing they did was to ask if I was alright and could they bring me up some tea! This is the kind of care and service that is invaluable when you are far from home.
The most important thing a hotel can afford you is a good night's sleep, and you will certainly get that at RiverPlace. I'm not sure they have a fancy "bedding system™" or anything, but you'll get quiet, and really, how many places have that and are still convenient to downtown? Sleep is so important on any business trip, and the riverfront location, generously sized rooms, and noise-baffling walls yield the peace of mind needed to get as much as you need.
Some folks have mentioned the price, and I think it is actually a value for what you get. It isn't that much more than comparable properties in the vicinity, but you get so much for that little extra. If you take into account the convenience of the location, security of knowing you'll receive consistently excellent service and actually get a full night's sleep (or a comfortable enough desk and fast enough internet to work all night long) it is just the right price. I will admit that I think the restaurant isn't a good value for dinner, especially when there are other places nearby to dine that are, but I find fault with nothing else.
I heartily recommend RiverPlace Hotel. From the river views of early morning kayakers, to the lap blanket provided on the occasional chair, you will experience the comfort and tranquility necessary to take on the world. Well... at least Southwest Portland. -

I would give this hotel 5 stars but it's expensive.
This is a lovely place to stay if you're visiting Portland. It's right on the river, and you can easily walk to downtown from here. I stayed in a suite that was more like a condo. It had a full-sized kitchen, dining area, patio, and living room with fireplace.
It was so wonderful hanging out at Riverside that one night we decided to order take out food and stay in our suite rather than go out for dinner. -
Review from Valerie H.

What a wonderful treat! They really thought about the details at this hotel. L'Occitane shampoo and soaps, modern European styling, a wine bottle opener, and a scale in the bathroom to weigh all the new pounds you've just gained from the Portland eats. The down King bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I took a nap every day that we were in Portland.
Their services were equally fantastic. Room service did not taste like room service. The muffins in their continental breakfast could rival any bakery. The happy hour from 4-6 p.m. had great deals and tasty food ($5 for a charcuterie plate and $4 for local wines). Free use of the exclusive Riverplace Fitness Center.
My only issue is the parking situation. There is no parking except $28 valet service. Limited, metered street parking.
This will be my only stop in Portland. -

I am extending to Riverplace Hotel 5 Stars, but please read on.
I travel to Portland often from my residence in California. I wish that I knew of Yelp or City Search before I came upon River Place as, prior, I stayed at most of the other down-town and airport proximate properties: Westin, Hilton, Marriott, Governor, Shilo, Embassy. Hands down, Riverplace tops them all. Hey - Westin, Marriott, Governor, Embassy - eat your hearts out.
This property is NOT located in/amidst the downtown core. Rather, it is located at waters' edge - the Willamette River. BUT, Portland is a walking town: you can get from the hotel entrance to any shopping, restaurant or business office in a matter of minutes. If you decide not to venture far from the hotel, immediately nearby a fantastic harborside pub/eatery called HARBORSIDE - a VERY friendly and attentive bar staff, wait staff, numerous flat screens for sports fanatics and a formal dining room. Go there alone or with friends - you will not be disappointed.
The Hotel dining room (just off the lobby) is GREAT for intimate dining, all day.........as is the lobby bar.....just to sit at the bar or by the fireplace....enjoy appetizers, select bar menu dining options and/or your favorite beverage YEAR ROUND.
The hotel rooms are LARGE.....from a single (King or Queen) to a Suite (inclusive of woodburning fireplaces). Keep in mind, however, this property is NOT a high tech high rise property.....It, if anything, is more like a home-away-from home.....from the moment you arrive. The Valet and bell staff is 'seasoned' and northwesterly 'personal'. I never have 'a care' when I stay at Riverplace.....the staff goes beyond the W Hotel slogan: 'whatever, whenever'!
Riverplace Hotel is a pet friendly property. Do not be surprised is dogs (on leash) are more prevalent four-feeters than two-feeters.
ONLY downer: the hotel does not have a health club or pool on site. However, adjacent is the River Place Athletic Club (full gym, indoor pool, steam, sauna, etc).....within 2 blocks. The Hotel can provide a complimentary day pass if you ask.
My compliments (as you may wish to offer, if you stay at Riverplace) to the Hotel management and seasoned staff. -

We recently returned from a 5-1/2 wk driving trip from Northern CA through OR, WA, and Victoria BC. RiverPlace is one of the four top hotels out of the 14 different places we stayed, and it's one of the best among the hotels on all our seven 2010 trips (ain't retirement wonderful?).
It's on a cul-de-sac beside the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, just outside downtown. So it's quieter, newer, more elegant, and totally fabulous as a base for running around Portland.
Service was outstanding. Dining out in Burnside, our car was broken into (thankfully nothing stolen) with the passenger window smashed. Here we are on vacation, glass shards all over the inside of the car. We drove back to the hotel, and without being asked the valet ran to get a ShopVac and spent 15 minutes vacuuming our car before taking back to the secured lot. Terrific service from everyone, and being on the cul-de-sac made it easy for the glass company to come out the very next morning and replace the window.
We had breakfast one morning at the hotel, which was simply amazing. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms great, the Net access was fast, and we were upgraded to a river view room without asking.
This was a great place to stay at ANY price...and getting it for a great rate made it even better! We are already planning a return to Portland, and this is definitely the place we'll be staying at again. -

Nice hotel and a good location. The beds here are awesome and it's right along the river with walking distance to some gorgeous parks, downtown and a lot of great little shops. Little pricier and you have to valet your car, but it is a great spot especially if you are looking for somewhere romantic.

Stayed here for two nights recently, booked one night in advance for $100 using Priceline. Realized we'd be in the city a day early, called the hotel and booked for the additional night, no problem. Well worth the cost, even adding $24 /night valet parking. We had no problems with the valet. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Hotel is only 4 stories, so not a huge impersonal highrise. Fridge in room, nice size, nice amenities, comfy bed and both foam and feather pillows on the bed. I can't imagine how there could be complaints about either bed or pillows...there is also a free business center where one can get online and print boarding passes or whatever. At our other hotel in town there was a hefty charge for online use. And let's not forget the afternoon warm cookies at the registration desk!
The lobby bar and porch are perfect for lounging any time of day. The location is great - on the river, away from the street noise so much more quiet than downtown hotels. An easy walk to all of the downtown shops and restaurants, but people watching, bikes, dog walking, rowing and river traffic is very relaxing from the hotel porch or bar. There are a few restaurants, shops and services along the riverwalk, as well.
Nice place to stay if you get a good rate. Ask for either a river view (surcharge) or a city view. -

I stayed here when in Portland for a very special occasion. The service was excellent and when I called in advance to arrange for champagne and flowers to be in the room the person I spoke with not only took the time to get the entire wine list from the bar, but also discussed all the prices and individual wines with me. The flower shop they recommended was one I had already done some research online about and was very happy with. They even asked when I would be arriving to make sure the wine was chilled and not sitting there too long. The room was perfect, had a balcony overlooking the river, and was very comfortable to relax and sleep in. Every detail was attended to. I would definitely stay here again for a weekend getaway or special occasion.

II stayed here from 6/16-6/20/2009 in a 1 bedroom residential suite room number 516 with my lova man because I like to have a lot of room and we like to alternate between cooking and dining out when vacationing because we both have skillz in the kitchen!.
I had a lot of high expectations for Riverplace Hotel after reading the reviews here and on another website that focuses on travel but in actuality I was not blown away.
This is what I loved:
1. The location is excellent! Right on the Williamette River, lots of people out and about, riding bikes, skateboarding, jogging, walking their dogs, etc. The downtown area is a very short walk which was nice.
2. The services from a couple of the vendors at the little shops on the Riverwalk. I got a really good deal on an amber pendant and ring from the Torquoise Lady!
This is what I liked:
1. Kaylin who played the role of check-in clerk and concierge was a doll and very welcoming.
2. The residential suite was nicely decorated but not as plush as we would have liked
3. The featherbed topper on the mattress and 6 pillows made sleeping a joy.
This is what I didn't like:
1. Customer service was lacking in that if you ask multiple people the same question, you get different answers. It's ok to say "I don't know" let me ask someone who does instead of being off the cuff! One example was in how we were given access to the residential suite. We thought the walking distance between where we parked and where we could enter the property was inconvenient because there was a gate in the underground parking lot that would have led us up to our suite. so I asked if there was another way that we could enter the property that is closer to where we were staying through one of the gates. I was told "no" and then I walked away. The next day I complained and asked someone else and was given a key to access the property through the gate off the parking lot where we parked. Problem was, the key only worked when we headed from the property into the parking lot, but didn't work when trying to enter the property from the parking lot!
2. Cost of parking was awful! $28/day for valet parking and there is only one person working valet which means you have to wait, the next option was to park in the garage for $17/day and the last option is limited metered parking on the street where you need to either re-up in 90 mins or 3 hour increments up until 7pm.
Overall it was an ok stay, probably one of the best hotels that you could experience in Portland but is truly middle of the road for the types of hotels I have stayed in worldwide. -

Did anyone say HAPPY HOUR? If you are downtown between 3-6 you definitely need to make a stop here. There is nothing better than sitting outside on a beautiful day drinking $3 lemon drops and eating lots of delicious cheap appetizers! Get there early if you plan to sit outside because if the weather is nice the patio fills up quickly.
