There are some places I wish weren't on yelp. This is one of them. This is truly one of the best hidden gems of Sonoma County!! I know of many other. But if you think I'm telling you... your crazy!!! Some things are best kept a secret!!! If you want to see just what Sonoma county has to offer this park is a great example. You start off entering the park on a dirt road that would make even Jason Aldean jealous, lined with vineyards on both sides. You park in a dirt lot, enter through a redwood grove where the picnic area and bathrooms are located. the trail is a very wide fire road, and I'd say its about a mile, and a half loop past the first lake on the right, I like to walk to the first fork and stay left. stay on the upper trail because the lower one just leads you to all the fishing spots at the west most lake. The trail will take you through another redwood grove, flanked with lake views to the right. Stay on this trail it will loop around the lake and take you back to the fork and back to the trail where you first began. A little history about this place is that it was once a gravel mine, long abandoned.... and the three lakes were all gravel mining pits that were filled when the banks of the Russian river over ran her banks!! There are many types of fish, including HUGE catfish 20+ lbs, large mouth bass, land lock steel head, and bluegill. My first visit I spotted a catfish nearly 3ft long and I'd estimate it was 20+lbs. I've spoke with others who fish there regularly and they've reported catching large mouth up to 5lbs. and have caught huge steelies up to 10lbs. But fishing isn't what this place is all about. Its down right AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS!! Words cannot do this place justice. You've just gotta go check it out for yourself!!!

Great place for a day trip. You'll run into the usual 101 traffic on your way up from the city, but you'll forget all about it once you get to the park. The main picnic area consists of a handful of tables and grills sprinkled in a real-life redwood forest; it's seriously one of the nicer places to make camp that I've ever seen. There's plenty of space to sprawl out, kick a soccer ball, or play some volleyball (there's a net built in).
The "redwood picnic area" is a stone's throw away from two beautiful lakes. I saw folks fishing, lazying around on inflatable rafts and even swimming (though that's ostensibly prohibited). There's a second, exposed picnic area about a quarter of a mile down from the redwoods, but bring some sun block or umbrellas since there's no tree cover and it's hot hot hot there.
Terrific place that apparently not many folks know about. Highly recommended. -

Murphy the Golden Retriever gives this park five stars, he loves getting into the lake for a swim and running on the wide trails with his best friend, Mr Skot.

Beautiful Hidden Gem! Drive down a beautiful road (EASTSIDE lane) through the vineyards, when you start seeing trees on the right, you're there, Oh, there is a sign. It is a county park, It only has porta potties right now, but it is still young. The place is home to three sparkling lakes, and beyond a line of trees is the rambling Russian River. To say that this park isn't a must see is just heresy! It is a favorite for many horseback riders, and many come to walk their dogs. Rumor has it that there are fish to be had as well, so people bring poles, and try their luck... There is a magical picnic area under a stand of large redwoods, that transports you far from anything you may have been thinking about! There is also a volleyball net in place, so bring game (and a ball) Oh and keep this place a secret o.k?
