It deserves three stars, but I have given an extra star to all establishments in Three Rivers for the sake of them existing at all. It's tiny town void of much charm, save the beautiful river that you can't get near (unless you are in-the-know). Also, I'm not sure why it's called a sports bar. There are two pool tables, but the ONE television didn't have sports on. It wasn't even turned on. They did let us try all we wanted to get a nationally televised hockey playoff game, but to no avail. They have fuzzy basic cable on one small TV.
We ended up sitting outside on their large patio overlooking the Kaweah river, which at that moment was the best thing ever. The beer was $2.50 at happy hour, $3.50 regularly. BARGAIN. I got the IPA and it was really yummy. The buffalo chicken wings, fried to perfection, came without buffalo sauce, which is the ONLY reason I order buffalo wings. They come with ranch and BBQ sauce. What a waste. The burgers and sandwiches are solid at $8 a pop. The pizza was crusty and yummy, too.
Apparently they have live music at night, if you're into that sort of thing.
River View is a local bar and restaurant with a casual country atmosphere filled with friendly faces. They have a large outdoor patio perched above the river in back with tiki torches and awning. We were seated just before sunset, and the river setting was wonderful. The sun cast long shadows on the distant hills, geese played in the water, and the sound of the rushing water was soothing. A cool breeze and a beer cut the dry 100 degree temp, and we got that jello-in-the-sauna glow going.
She had the t-bone and I had a burger. Both meals were flawless, and I especially thought the French fries were first rate. Service was excellent, but unrushed. This is a place to kick back, mellow out, and enjoy the experience. Don't go here if you're in a rush, you will miss the point. This is good American style food in a relaxed setting.
My wife and I recently made a trip to visit Sequoia Park and were staying in the Three Rivers area. After being disappointed during several meals at other places (see my other reviews) we asked a local for a recommendation and she steered us to the River View. When we walked in and saw the place full of locals shooting pool and laughing at the bar in their cowboy hats, we knew we had found the right place.
We ordered up some drinks and two prime rib dinners and were not disappointed. Quality was very good, service was friendly, and the prices were extremely reasonable. I look forward to going there again during our next trip to Sequoia.
Had I seen this on Yelp, and saw that it was listed as a sports bar before we went here, I would have avoided it. Driving by it several time did not reveal its true nature. Ya know, generally, I think choosing a restaurant by the crowd of cars in the parking lot is a decent strategy. On reflection though, I realize that in Pasadena, this would mean that I ate at the Cheesecake Factory all the time. If you read my review of that place, you'll find this is being far from the truth.
It was late and we were starving and judging by the number of cars outside of this place, we hoped for good meal. My bad feeling as soon as we stepped inside - indeed, its more of sports bar. We seated ourselves and got drinks fairly promptly. The menu consisted of sandwiches, pizza, steaks and some fish. Our waitress took our order not too long after we got our drinks - I ordered a chicken sandwich and Wendy ordered fish. We then waited for our salads. And wait, waited. Wendy threatened to leave if the table next to us, who showed up ten minutes after us, got their food before us. Well they didn't, we got our salads at the same time. Then we waited, and waited, and waited and watched that same table get their entrees, and waited and finally got our food.
I swear to god, there was less than 2 oz. of chicken on my sandwich, I think they must have been running out or something and cut a breast in like thirds. Wendy's fish was, deep-fried and boring. We both got heaped of terrible fries.
Jesus, this place sucked. Even the creek side setting couldn't save it. Bad food, bad service. It's the kind of dining experience that sort of makes you mad because of its sucky-ness.
We stumbled off the trail after three days on Eagle Lake. We were filthy, wild-eyed -- and demanding french fries and burgers. The Riverview delivered all that and more. I had the blue cheese burger on a fresh baked bun, others delighted in the bacon cheeseburger, the mushroom swiss, the fish and chips. Free refills on sodas. friendly service -- and, a wide open view of the fast flowing kiweah river. if we had stayed longer, we could have watched the afternoon show -- the band "Freedom slave" was playing. The perfect stop before heading back home.
