Should be renamed as River Street Sweets and Crack. They employ shillers to tempt you in and provide the first sample free to ensnare you.
Bobby B and I were strolling along the lovely downtown Charleston, when from the side of the shop doorway we heard a pssssst. Surprised, we both turned and nearly upset a large sample tray from the hand of a waiting shop employee.
She pushed the tray towards us, laden with massive broken shards of bear claws, peanut brickle, divinity and fresh prailines. It was late afternoon and we hadn't yet had lunch. We helped our selves greedily.
The shop's front marble table, viewable through the store front glass, was systematically being filled with ladleful plops of piping hot prailine from a big vat. They cooled quickly and were scraped from the marble and deposited in large piles inside gift tins.
We looked at each other, a questioning look in our eyes- hang lunch and gorge on prailines instead? Naw. We are NYers. We can resist the siren call of crack candy. We walked on down to the marina where we had planned to have lunch.
Afterwards, we headed back to River Street Sweets. We may be strong of will, but we're not stupid. Those prailines made a perfect dessert.
