Let me preface this review by saying that any bakery I'd ever been to is of the really plain, "let me get my bread/pastries and LEAVE"...

That being said, everything is so fancy at Rive Gauche...

Fancy Fancy Fancy!

From the flat screen TVs to the comfy sofa seating to the regular table seats and even their display of the various pastries, breads, and sandwiches....

Having been to this Patisserie (even the name is damn fancy! :D) before on a prior business trip, I decided to visit Rive Gauche again, as I remember how lovely and tasty their pastries were.  Last time I was here, I WORSHIPPED the chocolate croissants, and swear I probably had 5 in one sitting, and was totally craving it again.  Needless to say, I returned and all was well.

As they say, each day brings new discoveries, and it was indeed the case this time around as well.  Having been here before, I wasn't aware that they also served cooked-to-order breakfasts and on two occaisions during my short trip returned to Rive Gauche, once for a western omelet and hash brown breakfast and an italian sausage breakfast croissant.

The western omelet breakfast was tasty, and cooked well.  Nothing of the BEST I've ever had, but was welcome at 8am in the morning and quite hearty as well.  But OMG, the Italian Sausage breakfast croissant?  Now THAT was GOOD.  Soft, melted cheese, perfectly cooked sausages and a soft, buttery, crusty croissant created the perfect pair with a wonderfully made Iced Coffee.  The croissant was tasty and savory, and the iced coffee perfectly battled the heat that was already starting the day, and woke my ass up just wonderfully.

I would probably have to say that this is a perfect hybrid blend of a great bakery and coffee shop.  Seriously, if I could I'd probably move an exact replica of this place to my neighboorhood.

It was so pretty. I was so excited for it. But it's the stalest cupcake I've ever taken a bite of. The worst part is, I will probably keep eating it.

Clean, spartan, no character. Mediocre coffee.

Delicious-looking treats (although I can't say I tried them).

Good place for a chat, or a place to scam wi-fi.

Meh.

I forgot to mention in my update that Rive Gauche underwent a serious renovation last year.  They now have WiFi and TVs, which is an improvement in some eyes, but they have sacrificed the lovely character of the old shop, which had more of a French bistro feel, with marble tables & old chairs.  I miss the old Rive Gauche -- the new one is too generic and sterile, even if the excellent pastries and coffee are unchanged.

I cannot believe that this french pastry place has not been given a review yet. I mean yummers. My eyes always get big when I come here and everytime I get anytihng here, I am reafirmed that food is definately the thing to choose over sex anyday, and I mean  EVERYTHING THERE makes me think that^_^

So come, try the espresso, the eclairs, especially the coffee flavored eclair. Try the other cakes and goodies they have there. Sit and people watch and imagine being in Paris sitting by the street watching people pass by as you enjoy your pastry making yourself happy knowing, people are missing out since you got something yummy ^__^ And maybe, just maybe you'll agree with me and decide, YES I CHOOSE THIS OVER SEX. THANK YOU ^__^

Ok yes, I'm pushing it but that should be enough to make you make the trek up here to try it and then... Thank me later ^___^

OMG this place was just fab!!! Yosh H. took me here after dinner last night and am I so glad he helped me scarf down this delicious chocolate mousse thing as I bet I would have felt a little nauseous if I had the whole thing myself. . It was this rich hunk of chocolate mousse, that's exactly what it was, no other way to describe it. They had sooo many really scrumptious-looking pies and tarts and other baked and sweet items. YUMYUMYUMTUMTUMTUM!!!

Here I was on my way to get some sushi until I walked past this place and got a whiff of the rich, sweet aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries.  I just HAD to drop in and take a look.

ALL of the pastries LOOK SO DAMN GOOD....tarts, cupcakes, cakes, eclairs, danishes, along with sandwiches, quiches and so many other yummy-looking treats, I almost bought TWO sandwiches and TWO desserts!  I somehow got some self-control (slapped myself a couple times) and simply went with the tomato/mozzarella/pesto sandwich and chocolate almond croissant.

The sandwich had fresh mozzarella (the way I like it), and the baguette itself was just crispy enough on the outside and so soft on the inside.  I wish it had more pesto, however  =(.  So while the bread was good, the sandwich overall was just ok.

The chocolate almond croissant was really good, soft and flaky and moist and both chocolate-y and almond-y and MM MM MMM.

Too bad they don't provide take-home menus for me to drool over while at home....=)

I will DEFINITELY be stopping by again to try all of their other scrumptious-looking desserts!!

After an atrocious dinner, Arnab and I needed a quick sweet fix and this turned out to be the smartest choice.  We ordered a chocolate mousse cake (so decadent and heavy) and just ate our troubles away.  Since then, I've been back time and time again for tarts or sandwiches or this pretty brioche that just called out to me from the window display.  If you're in the neighborhood, swing by and get a little sometime to nosh on your journey home.

I have to write about the orgasmic chocolate fondants served at this place. For the best experience: purchase a small (or large) chocolate fondant, take it home, microwave it for 30s - 45s, set it on a clean white plate, admire, spread the edges to let the chocolate run, and experience your taste buds dive into a tingling  sensation that will be sure to make you tremble. MMh.
