Easily one of the most unappreciated food and drink establishments downtown. They craft a much more superior hotdog than Yesterdog (the only reason people say they prefer Yesterdog is to sound hip) and have a much greater variety. Need a special order? They make it for you. Need a footlong? They have it. Need a hotdog place with great fries that ALSO serves alcohol? THEY HAVE IT. Not to mention that the main bartender (John) is probably one of the most down-to-earth bartenders I've ever met. The other employees can get moody towards the end of the night, but I would too if I was constantly having to deal with the Jersey Shore rejects who don't want to wait in the line for McFadden's next door. It's also inexpensive and is one of the few places downtown that has a decent drink special every day of the week.

In short, this is my favorite place in Grand Rapids. Hands down.

Thank goodness they serve food late. I was in town recently and all the other places in the same area were no longer serving food.

I was having a hard time deciding what I should order. The menu is pretty diverse. Decided on the chili dog with fritos crushed on top (can't remember the name of that one, sorry).

Downed a pint of Bell's Oberon with the dogs (order in pairs). Very inexpensive and hit the spot. I payed for it later with a bout of heartburn but it was worth it.

Had a local band playing in the front. They were pretty good and had a local following. The lead singer was a little toasted and was dropping F bombs here and there, so I would not call it a kid friendly place after 9 or 10pm. Daytime, you bet.

I'd go back and hang out again. It was fun...

Hot dogs and cheap drinks? YES!

I may be slightly biased since Ritz Koney is my favorite bar and I've been known to go there at least once every week while in Grand Rapids.  But they must be doing something right to keep us coming back every single week.

Dollar dogs on Mondays.  'Nuff said.

This is the kind of bar that really grows on you.  It could be your "Cheers" if it wasn't already mine.  I have a soft spot in my heart for them ever since the owners actually sat down with me to listen to my semi-drunken suggestions about what I think would bring in more customers.  Karaoke Fridays? That's my legacy to the place.

Now that I'm in Chicago I will greatly miss the vibe that they have there.  My only suggestion is to bring back Free Jukebox Thursdays.

The Short:  Decent hot dog joint, same or better than Dog Town, not as good as Yesterdog.  (But what is?)

The Long:  Right on Ionia between McFaddens and The Black Rose its not only a restaurant, but a bar too.  How handy is that?  Not very at lunch time - I am a weak man given to temptation - but I was strong and resisted the urge to partake of the lunch time beer special.  Anyway, from a variety standpoint its a good place.  Dogs are pretty standard all beef fare.  Toppings applied a bit more precisely than other places - they're not so messy - but the mess never bothered me.  Couple of hamburger options, various wraps, appetizers that sort of thing.  Bar food.  I bet they do a killing at 2am.  They have some decent weekly specials too.

Not a ridiculously fantastic place, but its a decent very casual lunch option.  I'll go back.

Ritz and Yesterdog are sitting in a bar in downtown GR.

There's a small crowd forming around Yesterdog.  He hasn't shaved in a couple days, but that's part of the look.  He's wearing sandals and the dark pint in front of him is still 3/4 full.  He's listening to an iPod that he bought on eBay, (he searched for 3 days to find a model that was out-of-date.)  It's blaring music from a band you've never heard of and he likes it that way.  He's smoking a cigarette that he rolled himself, feeling satisfied that a couple people have asked him if he's smoking a joint.  He doesn't like you.

Ritz is hunched over a lager two stools down.  He's wearing jeans and a t-shirt from an Indian restaurant he liked back home.  He keeps squinting when puffs of smoke drift from Yesterdog's group, but he doesn't seem to want to move away.  He keeps looking up when girls pass by, acting like he's going to say something, but doesn't.  He just turns back to his lager and smiles at the bartender, who in turn is asking Yesterdog if he wants another drink.  Are you sure?  This one's on the house.  Please?  What band are you listening to?  Really?  I've never heard of them.  That's so God damned cool.

Ritz is a good hot dog spot downtown with late hours on the weekends for your post bar gorging.

Ritz's receives its 4 star based on location on Ionia as Yesterdog its too far out of the way at that point. They are ranked as my 2nd best place to get a dog in GR. The Ritz Koney Dog with the shredded pickles is always a treat and the Chicago Dog with the celery salt and sport peppers are my favorites.

Ritz also has a bar so you can enjoy a PBR or High Life with your dog as well. What a bonus. Also, $1 Dog Mondays are a steal.

at 2 in the morning, this is the BEST place on earth. The hot dogs are fresh and made to order, the atmosphere is always fun, but late at night it's busy and they often have music or karaoke. They have a full bar for that last drink of the night too.

Love this place, great hot dog place away from Chicago. It has six-seven different Koneys and want to try them all but never get to the place enough. I never been here for drinks but seems more like a place to get food then hunker down for an evening,
