So I went here the other day because it is the closest photo place for me and man I should have gone elsewhere.  The prices where the same as anywhere but the selection for anything relating to darkroom, tradition photography is very very very limited.  When I asked if they had dust off (to get the dust off my negatives), they replied in a nose in the air voice, no it's a digital world.  Ok, show how little you know....Then when I was checking out I asked if they had student discounts like every other photo/art store nearby and again I was rudely told that pretty much anyone who actually uses a "old fashioned" camera is a student.  I just think the associate who helped me could have been much more diplomatic in her responses, and she really did show her ignorance of photography.

I bought my Nikon D70 at Ritz Camera. It's definately not as cool as Camera Arts which has photography hanging all over the walls from local artists.  It's also not as interesting as Pardees Cameras which has an amazing collection of old school cameras on display. However, they have a wide array of some of the latest and greatest "camera stars" from Nikon, Olympus, and Canon. Gobs of camera accessories too. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. If you purchase a camera you get all these coupons and free photo classes with the purchase. I went to one but it was too much like a CLASS. I hated school! If you're looking to buy a digital camera, at least check this place out and comparison shop before you buy.

Since this is the only camera shop in midtown, it's pretty good. And they don't even have competition...and they still care about customers! I took a few photography classes there last year, and the instructor was pretty good; and the class fee was a killer deal!

i am proud to write a favorable review of a chain-operated establishment.  this is a first!

this Ritz location has put a smile on my face because they can still produce half way decent images from traditional BW negs. i have been using them to make proofs from film i develop at home. Photo Source, the professional lab i had been using for this service, charges twice as much as Ritz and produces images that are so contrasty i refuse to show them to the client, even though they were just proofs.

they also have a very good turn around: usually two days for proofs from already cut BW negs. sweet! and they haven't yet scratched any negs! super sweet!

Don't ever shop here for supplies if you are a photographer.
1. It's a rip off
2. People who work there don't know jack about photo equipment.  When you go to ask about something they have to look it up to be able to tell you specs or product reviews!  haha
3. Its a rip off...did I say that again?
4. Their prints are cheap.  I hear a 4x6 is like .30 cents. Just go to Costco and print for half the price or maybe less than half.
5. They have limited supplies

Why I am I posting this, just so the world knows I buy all my gear online and not from Ritz. hahaha

This is a fun camera store for those who like to take pictures and people like me who intend to take pictures but always forget.  I finally bought a digital camera because I realized my 35mm was beginning to look like one of those old cell-phones that people used to carry around with a suitcase-sized battery pack.  It was large.  And not the cool kind of large, it was supposed to be small.
Anyhoo, they had some cute little purse-sized cameras on sale, and the salespeople were all very patient with my clueless self.  Included in the price of the camera was a maintenance program, a free thingy that lets you go to their shop to print a limited amount of photos, and some free photography classes.  As you can probably tell, I have yet to utilize any of the freebie stuff, as I can barely remember to use the camera.  It is now mostly used for my kids and husb to take pictures of themselves to put on myspace.  A great store for photo buffs though, check it out.
