Last weekend I found myself in my old hood of Hell Cajon and I was starving.  While the Rally's around the corner was temping, I heard the sire call of Rita's.

Shredded chicken and rice burritos are indeed mana from God. Hot. moist shredded chicken, fluffy rice and just the right amount of cheese.

Their other food is great too- the healthy menu has some great choices as well.

It's always clean and well lit and now they have frozen yogurt too!

When I was in high school we use to come here every week for lunch! Their rolled tacos with guacamole were so good and the shredded chicken and rice burrito was the best. My DH and I hadn't been here in years so we decided to go the other day when we were in El Cajon on a Sunday. We expected it to be crowded like is use to be but it was pretty empty. The guy behind the counter couldn't have been less enthused about working there. The food was decent, not as good as we remembered. Since we don't live close we probably won't come again. So sad it has gone downhill.

I must say that this is a definite favorite of mine in terms of little taco shops, I with I would have known about Rita's sooner but since I've been working in the area I've been frequenting the joint.

The burritos are solid and the 5 rolled taco deal is pretty awesome! They have a "healthier" choice menu which seems pretty legit but I'm not going to a taco shop to eat healthy so I don't know how it is! Thinking about it makes me hungry though!

A pretty unique spin on Mexican food with a little bit of a focus on healthy eating.  At least that's what they claim, and for the most part, I buy it.  They have lots of grilled chicken dishes and my favorite is the shredded grilled chicken burrito.  Plump with white meat and cheese and nothing else.  This is good because you can order the side dishes to adorn your new baby burrito any way you wish.

This is one of those places I seldom get to and always tell myself that I'll get to more, but damn, it's gotta be way out there in El Cazona.  But, if you're in the area, I implore you to give that chicken burrito a go-round.

They have great carne also.  It's different than the stanrd carne from a taco shop, so be prepared.  Very tender meat.  And, as an added bonus, their hot sauce and carrots rock.

Our whole family has loved this restaurant for the past 10 years.  They have delicious mexican food and a heart wise menu as well.  We have always enjoyed great customer service from the entire crew here.
