I used to go there all the time and now I know why. The staff always make you feel right at home and are top notch. The atmosphere is exciting and it is a good place to meet people. I think out of all the places We've been, We met more friends here.
The restrooms are clean and classy.
This is a very fun and friendly place.
The appetizer's are excellent and the margarita's are excellent but they don't put in margarita glasses and I frown on that... Beer goe's in mug's not rita's. It's to hard to drink a frozen margarita in a beer mug.
After our fun excursion watching the planes land and take off at Founders Plaza, we trekked a little further West for lunch. Good....actually, a great decision!
Beautiful restaurant, rich dark woods, black tables and chairs with taupe colored table cloths, a nice contrast. By our request, we were seated in a large comfy booth by the windows. (Later we wished we had chosen to sit on the nice patio, we'll do this next time!) The bar area is huge, would be a fun place probably if just having drinks.
Started out with their top shelf margarita, the Rio Oro. Oh my was it delish, and very large, probably between 14-16 ounces. Sauza Gold, Grand Marnier, Cointreau and at $8.50, felt that was a great value.
Chips and Salsa, a definite hit and great first impression. You could tell the chips were homemade, wafer thin, crispy and warm. The accompanying salsa was soooo good; chunky with specks of jalapeno, small pieces of onion & cilantro. Some of the best I've had anywhere in the area. We had refills on this for sure!
We ordered the Appetizer Platter, which was enormous and plenty for the two of us as an entree. Mini chicken flautas (crispy and tasty); spinach quesadillas that were huge with monterrey jack cheese, onions and spices...YUMMY; beef brisket quesadillas, which I never got to before I filled up on everything else, but friend said they were very good; chicken fajita nachos...the chicken grilled to perfection; your typical bean and cheese nachos, also good with that wonderful Salsa on top; a small bowl of Queso; although thin in texture, it was very well seasoned and flavorful and did not have that velveeta cheese taste; a scoop of Guacamole, just the right blend of chunky and creamy with onions, tomatoes and cilantro...oh sooooo good. There was even a crumb or two left on the platter; our appetites were sated and we were very happy.
Service by Amy was excellent; she checked on us frequently and was quick to refill our Salsa and extra drinks.
Yep, another keeper in my arsenal of Tex-Mex go-to restaurants, even though it is definitely a trek from my part of the world. I'll be back very soon I hope!
Undoubtedly my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the Metroplex, based on the margaritas and the food. The brisket tacos- outstanding. The spinach quesadillas- outstanding. The rice-- outstanding. The fajita beef tacos- outstanding. The chips and salsa- very good. The margaritas- very good.
Actually a 3.5 and sometimes a 4.
This is where I take people for Tex-Mex when I know they are more comfortable with nicer surroundings than i usually choose and they insist the staff speak english well. Rio Mambo has quality Tex-Mex so that I don't have to lower my standards to the other options in the area who serve a version of Tex Mex that makes Taco Bueno tempting.
So far I have been through their tamales, beef fajitas, cheese enchiladas, carne asada, spinach enchildas and both the red & green salsa with satisfaction. You may have to ask for the green salsa, because they are used to the the locals that seem to think the more tomato and/or chipotle the better. My T-M staple - refritos have flavor and are never dried out or greasy. If you prefer your beans stewed and whole, they are also available. And for those people even pickier than me, they don't seen to have any problem with special requests.
I heartily recommend the spinach enchilada with its creamy salsa verde. Its a nice blend of flavors that will leave you with just enough room for dessert - from the menu or the bar.
The have a full bar with very competant bartenders who concentrate on the flavor of what they serve more than cute names or fancy glasses or garnishes.
If you have a large party, call ahead and they will probably set your table up on the north side of the dining area. It is between the service bar and the restroom, which in most restaurants would be quite undesirable. Here however, the restrooms are somwhat concealed and traffic is unobtrusive from there or the service bar. The area provides a bit of separation and intimacy, and places you in a prime location for the best attention from the waitstaff.
If I were rating this place on margaritas alone it would get 5 stars. There is such a wide selection of great tasting and strong margaritas!
As for the food, it is good and I enjoy going to eat here probably two or three times a month. I really like the Rio Mambo Platter which is a very large appetizer, which I order as my entree usually.
The atmosphere is great and the bar area is a cool hangout with plenty of flat-screens to watch the game. They also have great specials for their Margaritas, so definitely something to check out if you're in the area.
Went here for dinner last night. Tried the fajitas and the patio for the first time. Overall, it was pretty good food but I have had better. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the tortillas were decent. The refried beans didn't have much flavor to them. The patio is nice but you can hear the highway nearby. I usually get the grilled tacos, which are very good and unique to this restaurant. My friend always gets the brisket grilled tacos but I prefer the chipotle.
Good food, great margaritas, good service.
