I have an awesome haircut, and get tons of compliments on it. Normally, I never tell anyone where I get it cut, just "because" (LOL). In my continuing effort to become a better person, I am now going to tell you who cuts it: KAY at RINGO!
I started seeing her when she was at the Beehive in Brooklyn, and was happy to follow her to her new location at Ringo's, down on the LES.
Kay is friendly, upbeat, and very talented. She understands my hairstyle, listens to what I have to say about it, and cuts it with wicked precision.
The true test of a great haircut, however, is how well it grows out. Kay's cuts are so thorough that I forget how many weeks go by since my last appointment! My hair still looks killer.
So there it is: my secret is out.
Go to Kay, you will not be sorry!
She rawks.
There are just some things a modern superhero cannot go without before fighting crime one villain at a time:
1. A Skin-tight Bodysuit
2. A Mask to conceal your identity
3. Superpowers or Super Fighting Skills
4. An awesome haircut
Ringo can give you #4, although I found that with an awesome haircut comes awesome superpowers. In this case, that would be the power of attraction.
I've been to Sally H's, Studio 303, Arrojo, you name it. I've wasted my money there to get a haircut more talented than Supercuts but about the same quality as Bumble and Bumble, and with the HEAD hairdressers too. And then came Ringo...
Even in my hectic crimefighting schedule, Ringo can fit me in any timeslot except Mondays and sometimes Sundays. I always come 10 minutes past my appointed time because I have been there at least 6 other times and he always runs 10 minutes late working on his last client. That is fine. The wait is well worth it, as he never finishes his job unless it is PERFECT for him and YOU.
Once seated, you just need to tell him what look you are going for and he will do the rest, snipping away as silently as a ninja or chirping about interesting neighborhood happenings. That is good, as a superheroine needs to know what's up. If you suggest a haircut that will not flatter you, he will be brutally honest and ask if you are on drugs. He will make sure you know how pathetic you will look if you proceed with said silly haircut suggestion. Brutally honest hairdressers are hard to come by these days, and I trust my hair to no one else but Ringo!
His method: Scissors and no blades, sometimes using the razor for shorter men's cuts. He is surgical with those scissors and a master of fine lines. He even gets on his knees as he cuts, almost like watching him play twister as he ensures every strand of hair is cut to your liking.
His portfolio- look it up, He used to keep a book out on the table but I haven't seen it lately. He is very humble about his extensive globetrotting experiences but he will tell you more if you just ask.
His Specialty: Edgy cuts, although he gave me the softest mod 60''s style cut that just looked AMAZING when I wanted a softer look. I still get compliments on it after weeks of growing it out. He works great with all hair types, especially curly hair. If you have thick as a brick hair, you have hope with Ringo. He will chop POUNDS off your mane to make you look human again like he did with me!
His price: $120 fixed, maybe cheaper for 15 min quick fixes. Cash only. There is a Superhero's Super Secret ATM just a few doors down on the corner of Ludlow if you need it. You're lucky I'm even telling you this.
The outcome: Super Duper Slick Bulletproof Hair
The people call for my help. I must answer, but for now check out Ringo's if you want the best kept secret and deal in the city for a great haircut or a new look.
After reading just 1 review on this site, I tried out Ringo just last night - he was so fun and knew how to fix my coarse, thick and damaged hair. I told him i was getting married in a couple of months and he did a quick updo for me on the spot that I always pictured in my head for my wedding. He did it so fast in 10 seconds and I was amazed, it was that soft, tossed low updo I always wanted... Then he continued to cut my hair with the big day in mind and i could not believe my good fortune to find him working magic on such an important day! So I asked him to be my stylist for the wedding right on the spot.
Now I have say that he doesnt like to work on just any style that client may ask for, he tells like it is. "If you want prom hair - dont come to me, i cant touch your hair"
Yes the guy after me was waiting cuz Ringo took an hour and half to trim my hair but I know now he's totally worth the wait.
I've been coming to Ringo ever since I moved to the LES, and he has, hands down, cut my hair the best, ever. Plus, my cut lasts for 6 weeks....I've even waited 8 weeks before. When you go, you must remember....
Ringo will cut your hair the best. You must trust Ringo. Talk a little in the beginning about what you want, then wipe that nervous look off your face and roll with it. He works best when he feels your confidence in his cut.....you know, your aura, your chi.
His experience? Calvin Klein runway shows, many names to drop. Ok, you know this now, so no need to ask, right?
Go to Ringo! Yes, your haircut may not start on time....but I never want the person cutting my hair rushed anyway. So, pick up a Vice magazine, and get excited. You're going to look damn good.
Ringo has been cutting my hair since since...I've had hair to cut.
He cut his teeth working in fashion: magazine spreads and hotties. Way more coolness than I want/can handle. He's there cutting away, doing stuff, and then more stuff..and then it looks good. I'm not brave enough to go for his better and more interesting ideas, so I fight and argue with him. And he fights and argues back.
When he lets me win, I want to call him later and tell him my hair is jacked up! I should have listened!
That he was correct.
When I let him win (a bit), I get an awesome haircut.
Go.
Listen.
Learn.
But not before or after my time slot.
I love Ringo! He's been doing my hair for years and all my friends' too. He's especially great for curly hair - I've actually had other curly-haired strangers stop me on the street to ask me where I got my hair cut. His salon is very cool and stylish as well.
