Hey - any hobby shop that's been around for 60 years has got to be good, eh?  I found them online, offering pretty good discounts for models and such.  In fact, I found they are offering their entire inventory online discounted pretty heavily. I was suspicious, did my research, and finally called them to determine just what was up.

Turns out, the economy has pretty much done them in and they are closing in about 30d.  That's too bad, but good for all of those out there searching for bargains.  It might be that if they have a great turn of business from this "fire sale" they might just be able to stay in business!  So, get out there and buy from these folks - they're the real deal and the merchandise is great!

Now relocated to a bigger location, Riders is well laid out with several sections of varying hobby areas.

I was there for some RC Airplane parts and the fellow there was helpful in looking it up.

With only a few well stock hobby shops around, Riders is a great source.

**This review is through the eyes of Jack Du Bois, a loyal customer and also my nephew**

Riders carries Traxxas remote control vehicles which are very fast and go about 20-80 mph.  I have a Slash and a Rustler and bought them both at Riders.   There are more Traxxas vehicles like the Ford Fiesta and everything is awesome.   You can even buy different custom bodies and they have a really good selection as well as an RC track in the store.

The Riders employees are always willing to help with questions.  I would recommend Joe and Paul.  Joe knows a ton about RC cars and Pinewood Derby (they also have a Pinewood Derby track there).  Paul gave us some really good advice about building a Pinewood car so it goes much faster than everyone else.

I like going to Riders because I can buy all the parts I need for my vehicles and they can order whatever they do not carry.    The service is good and the selection is good as they also have items for boats, planes, and rockets.
I find whatever I need at Riders and I enjoy playing with my cars on their tracks.

Good selection, but somewhat lackluster service.  I would've been more satisfied with less snootyness. True, it's a hobby shop, and maybe it attracts "Comic Book Guy" types.  But A. they don't have comics, and B. Vault of Midnight, which does, has some of the most helpful staff in Ann Arbor.

They have a pretty good selection of model building (as previous reviewer mentioned), but also science and electronics toys, telescopes, model trains / landscapes, R/C car / plane / helicopter kits and parts.

If you are a model builder, R/C enthusiast, or want to be the aunt / uncle who gives weird educational gifts, I haven't found a better place in Ann Arbor yet.

Riders is just what the name implies- a hobby shop. A lot of places locally that people call hobby shops are actually more general gaming stores, but Riders is truly focused on miniatures and related accessories.

They usually have a small selection of items for gamers, including Magic: the Gathering cards and role playing manuals, but their merchandise definitely skews to model trains and cars and airplanes.

It's not really what I'm looking for, because I'm more of a gamer. However, if I was a model enthusiast, I'd probably be a more frequent visitor at Riders.

It's in a small strip mall at Ellsworth and Carpenter, and parking is almost always easy at this location.
