Review from Shanna K.
Stayed here this weekend. The woman who owns it, and the catering business they run, is very nice and a great cook. Foodies, check out the full commercial kitchen. It's pretty cool.
For breakfast on Saturday we had a decadent crustless quiche with homemade salsa, banana bread, fried potatoes, sausages, fruit (melons and mango), orange juice and coffee. Sunday was cinnamon raisin bread pudding, ham, fresh fruit (strawberries and blueberries), orange juice and coffee. I also noticed cookies available, as well as port/sherry, in the afternoons and evenings but I didn't try them.
It's a pretty building, built in 1906, and not overly floofy in the decor. Nice grounds, with plenty of garden areas for relaxing and reading, but a little too close to the road. Traffic can get noisy. FWIW, though.. we did book last minute and our room was the one closest to the road ...so YMMV. Our room was also right off the main area downstairs which made for additional noise when people got up and came down for breakfast around 8:30-9am. If you're an earlybird you won't mind though.
My last gripe about the room (the Laurel Suite) was that there was no storage space in the bathroom for your toiletries. No shelving, no medicine cabinet and a very small sink. So our stuff ended up residing on the floor.
So if you do stay here.. it seems best to stay in another room. Upstairs is probably your best bet, as the cottages are right in front of the parking area and I would imagine that you'd hear cars pull up late in the evening.
It's about 7 minutes to the nearest most populated wine tasting road (Westside Road), just fyi.... unless you count the fact that they're next door to Korbel. Um.. I don't. Heh.
So aside from that, it's reasonably priced and enjoyable enough. I'll probably continue to look for a favorite in the area though. This isn't it.
