24 reviews for Rick's Restaurant & Bakery
OK, I went without a female - and BANG - I was seated in the front. So far, my theory holds.
I had biscuits and gravy with a side of home fries. Not a single healthy calorie anywhere in the area code, but damn good. Holy crap, that plate of breakfast held me until late in the afternoon.
Now, if I could just get a date (male, please!) to continue to test my theory about their seating plan.

I don't get their seating plan.
I went there with a female friend, and we were standing in line with… Read more »
After waking up in a booze filled haze this past Sunday, I sauntered downstairs to see my friends still slightly drunk and hungry. My friends Fiance said, "lets go to Ricks!" Neither Brian nor I had been to Rick's before so we all changed and headed up Palm Canyon in search of greasy goodness to sop up the remaining margaritas and Jello Shots left in our stomachs.
We get there and it is PACKED the parking lot was so full we parked in the way back. We get in and write our name down and wait less than five minutes. We are ushered into a back room that is mostly filled with families and the occasional tables full of hot gay men! All of whom check out my hot boyfriend. Anyhow, onto the food!
I order the Norwegian Benedict - lox, poached egg, English muffin slathered with hollandaise sauce. It was good but not super good. Wouldn't order it again.
Mike orders the chicken friend steak which he devoured. Wheater orders the Florentine Benedict...way too much spinach. Brian has the spinach omelet way to much spinach again but great hash browns. All in all decent diner food, nothing more nothing less. If you want an outstandingly good breakfast go to Spencers but this place suffices for quick, greasy, hangover food.
For us, this was actually an annoying experience. [We were here awhile ago -- over a year? -- but my review seems to have disappeared, so I'm trying my best to remember]
Their restrooms -- don't go.
Their service -- what service.
We came here on a recommendation, and we made the mistake of listening to the recommendation twice. Eek!
The food -- ok, not horrible, but with the lack of service? I had breakfast, a spinach mushroom egg white omelette. My usual is breakfast for lunch :) I forget what hubby's had.
I suppose we expected more considering the recommendation and the crowds. However, it's at least consistent with the rule: the crowds are not usually after the food, but the scene.
We've already started eating elsewhere in Vegas and the other experiences are better and much calmer. Thank goodness.
[This was yet another of my missing reviews -- no clue what happened to the original and it wasn't even that old -- probably from 2008. So far, I've discovered at least 15 missing reviews. It'll be awhile before I rewrite most of them. It's getting tiring.]
We were staying across the street at the Riviera and came here both days for breakfast to avoid paying hotel breakfast costs. Read the reviews on yelp and whist it wasnt exactly glowing, it was the closest place to the hotel and we were hungry!!
I gave it 4 stars. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Its essentially a large diner but the food was above par of your standard diner food. We ordered the whole wheat pancakes and the spinach omelette. Both were great and highly recommended. The other good thing is that with the pancakes, you just just order a single pancake by itself, or two, or three..
There can be wait times around 9.30 - 10am on weekends, but nothing that would deter you from going (around 5 - 10 mins)
Better than a dennys or Ihop ..its not great but its busy so hopefully the food gets rotated .The salads are mostly lettuce but breakfast is usually pretty good and comes fast the eggs florentine are what i like
The waiting line at the front door also fooled me. Friends had recommended this place for breakfast. It is far from the worst restaurant; but it is nothing outstanding. Ordinary food; slightly high prices; and ordinary to poor service. Despite knowing this I returned with friends for lunch. Same comments. The cobb salad was really just all lettuce. I do not understand how people wait in line for this place. Try John's just down the street which has much better food and lower prices.
We enjoyed out lunch offerings here around noon on a Sunday. Place seems to be a destination on Sunday morning and afternoon as there was a wait when we arrived and left.
Food is average, service okay, no atmosphere in the back room where we were seated. Overall a decent lunch or dinner destination. We did notice that three tables that were seated before us did not receive their good till we were almost half done with out lunch, all three of those tables were eventually brought breakfast dishes, so if you are in a hurry try the lunch items.
Was down in PS for Coachella fest. Ate at Rick's twice. Both times the food was excellent. 2nd day my gf had Machaca (sp?) - some sort of chorizo and egg thing that came with tortillas to build your own mini breakfast tacos - it was fantastic.
Their seating policies are a little wacky. First day, I honestly believe it was because I was wearing a pink shirt, we got sat in the gay section - seriously, two couples and one large table of gay men surrounded us on all sides. Our server was also gay. Second day, no pink shirt, and we were seated in the middle of the restaurant.
The business card section up front is not to be missed. Be sure to look for Viking Massage.
I came here for breakfast with my boyfriend, and it was SUPER crowded. We were seated quickly, but it took forever for us to get our order taken. We looked around and we were pretty much the only Asians in the restaurant, but that was okay for me, at least.
The food was plentiful, yet a bit greasy. We both ordered omelets with home fries, and they both tasted good. I was just so shocked at how crowded it was considering it was just okay..
So, in PS now with BF coz we're going to see Mraz.
Breakfast at Rick's is ok, lots of boys, seated in the other room where it's more quite but at the same time you get to see the comings and goings of the boys. Kinda scary everyone looks the same, walk the same, even carry the same mannerisms.... Mmmm PS u need more diversity *ironic.
Food is ok, coffee is bad, service is ok.
Great location... decent service. Food was...not good. We're talking brunch here- it's not hard to make a good omelette, and yet, my omelette was terrible. It actually made me sick. The search for a decent meal in Palm Springs continues...
didn't see any mention of this - try the "cafe con leche" if you like coffee drinks. You won't find that served at many places.
If you order the 'cuban coffee" it's basically like a shot of espresso...
You can get that anywhere.
But cafe con leche is different - I think they make it with condensed milk.
Nice menu. Most of the food is your standard american diner food.
There are a few cuban dishes on the menu - definately worth a try.
Here on the west coast we dont see much cuban food.
This place is great but on the weekends you'll have to wait to be seated. All kinds of delicious cuban foods. I like the pork with moro rice and yuca. Their cuban coffe is to die for.
Rick's is a great place for breakfast or lunch. The food is good quality and huge portions. The wait staff is very quick and friendly. I just wish they were open at night so I could go more often.
They have a plan for regulars (locals) that gives you a ten percent discount if you pay in advance and they debit your account each time you dine.
Rick's Restaurant & Bakery is a decent place for breakfast or lunch.
I decided to give them a try in spite of the bad reviews here. Hmmmm. I wonder if I was eating at the same place? Two of my party had the Cuban specials and were very pleased.
He had the Beef Empanadas & really liked them. I had the roast pork and it was plentiful & tender & flavorful. The yucca was a bit overcooked, but the lemon (or lime) juice & spices gave it a good flavor. The rice & bean combo wasn't fabulous by any stretch, but was tasty in my book.
For a $10 entree I got a HELL of a deal. Ended up only able to eat half my meal. The pork, while not excellent, was pretty darn good & juicy & tender. I'd go back just for that.
This place is what it is-A diner with a bit of a Cuban flair. I didn't expect it to be anything but that. I was very pleased.
They are only open until 3 PM, so it's a breakfast/lunch place. The portions of the Cuban fare are HUGE dinner sized portions.
I totally and completely AGREE with Andy S!!! When I lived in PS, I use to go there on the weekends for breakfast. LOTS of food and well prepared (I think). Great assortment of people from all walks of life. Service is usually good...In the 14 years that I lived in PS...I never knew that they served Cuba food...WTF? Oh well...
When I arrived at this packed place, it was afternoon and came to find out it's only open for breakfast and lunch.
In the morning, I came in to sit down at a super packed joint. The plates looked big as they passed them out. Some guy who gave me a menu boasted how the restaurant had been there for 25 years.
I was starving so I ordered the steak and eggs. This is a great plate if you love GRISTLE! It was like chewy fat. Probably one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. The eggs, hashbrown, and black beans saved the meal but what a low quality steak. When the "25 year" guy came back around, I pushed my plate with a pile of gristle out so he would see it. He did and never came back. Neither will I.
we had such great hopes for this joint. all the gay men flocking in looked promising. there are two large eating areas in this restaurant. the one you first see while walking in seems to be a "gay only" zone. bummer. we were seated with the other straight peeps in the back room. oh well.
ordered our food. basics...waffle combo and the lumberjack. this comes with 3 eggs. my friend asked if she could only have 2 since 3 is too much. no prob. waitress asked if she wanted homefries or hashbrowns. "homefries." food comes out. no potatoes, only 2 semi-ripe tomato slices on a piece of lettus.
she asked the waitress for her homefries and some salsa. waitress comes back with a small plate to "take back the tomaotes." WTF? after she had already been eathing her eggs which rested next to the tomatoes. obviously their mess-up and they were going to TAKE THEM BACK?! she brought out hashbrowns...whatever.
BILL COMES:
$2.79 for TOMATOES
$1.79 for SALSA
OUT OF CONTROL. food was ok but the prices are wack. go somewhere else.
friggin ridiculous! what was she going to do with those tomatoes? put them on someone else's burger? to charge a customer for your fuck up is beyond me.
If you like Denny's then treat yourself at this roach coach.. I've tried to like this place because its on North Palm Canyon and close to where I work but the food is bland and tasteless. For some reason I always want to take a shower after I leave, clean that place up inside.
Festival Fuel!
The brunch menu at Rick's was exactly what the doctor ordered for we four ladies fueling up before the Coachella Festival. We loved it so much we went back for brunch on day two, too. The strawberry-stuffed french toast was to die for, as were the blueberry pancakes, and our more standard egg orders. The veggie among us had lots to choose from, and was equally happy with her orders. The service was friendly and the ample seating for those waiting for tables made it homey. They even had some seating outside for those of us needing peace and quiet while we (read: I) dialed Ticketmaster customer service to freak out over misplaced Coachella tickets. How thoughtful of them! I suppose you could use those seats for overflow from the inside waiting area, too, seeing as the line can get long. But with so much space inside, you never get stuck waiting long. And there's ample eye candy (not to mention amusing "alternative" reading material) to keep you busy, in the meantime. You better believe I'll be making a beeline back to Rick's, fueling up for Coachella again next year.
Rick's is supposed to have some Cuban flair but apparently these owners forgot what it's like in Miami. I ordered the recommended dish of hamburger with eggs with a biscuit. I couldn't decide which was more bland. The cinnamon roles were excellent but that was about it. Everyone else at the table had similar comments. It seems like a great breakfast place, and the atmosphere is there, they just need to work on the food now!
The food here is consistently great... the service is friendly and after going to this cafe for over 6 years, it's still among my favorites. It literally becomes a gay heaven on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but it's a lively diverse and jovial crowd. The food is great for breakfast, the luncheon selections are also ample and tasty. They know how to make grilled chicken and their chicken veggie soup is probably the single most memorable item on their menu. This is one of the few places you can get a taste of what "Old Palm Springs" was like, since the dining room goes back to the early 1950s and retains much of the charm and ambiance of that time. Be sure and sample their Cuban delicacies.
This is nothing more than a Denny's wannabe. Just a breakfast and lunch grill and fry joint. Inspite of their advertisements, they do NOT have Cuban food. Unless you call plain black beans Cuban. (And I've been to Cuba and know what Cuban food is).
The place is always busy for reasons I can not understand. The food is boring, the decore is plain and dated, and the service is slow.
A friend and I went because she kept talking about how Rick's is a total must when she goes to Palm Springs. I was excited because I read that they have Cuban food. We walked in and the place was beyond packed. Wait time was not to bad and the assortment of people made for entertaining people watching. One thing I must mention..if you go to Ricks make sure that you check out the painting on the women's bathroom door..its very interesting. The painting is of a woman with her breasts sticking out and it looks as if she has taken a dum*...yea..very appetizing. My friends food looked great..my food on the other hand was SO salty that it was not edible. The yucca was bland and the lechon (pork) was disgusting. I was really disappointed since the place was highly recommended. My friend convinced me to go the next day stating that I just ordered the wrong thing and to order breakfast food. Once again...A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The wait staff is super nice even though they messed up my order. Chicken fried steak was TERRIBLE..the Cinnamon roll and my friends stuffed french toast was delicious. DON'T EAT THE CUBAN FOOD!
