11 reviews for Rick's On Second
Ventured out into the Antioch/Oakley area to see the chiropractor and had to find a lunch spot before heading back to the bay. Found Rick's on 2nd on Yelp and decided to pass by to see if they were busy. Lucky for us, they had a few tables left (I can see why people have them hold a table). We got a cozy little table by the front window.
Like everyone said, we were greeted with water and carrots/cucumbers to start. I ordered the Rodger's Point (grilled chicken) and my friend ordered the Contra Loma (warm pastrami). Both were surprisingly good! I opted to pay a little extra for the full sandwich + soup (broccoli and cheese - it's pretty darn tasty too). My friend also got a side of garlic bread ($1!) and that was delish too.
It was a tad on the pricier side.. for the 2 sandwiches + cup of soup + side of bread, we paid about $30. Mind you, the plates also came with fruit (slice of orange + watermelon) and a cookie (which was delish).
It's definite on my list of places to go to if I were craving sandwiches in the Antioch area. Yelp didn't disappoint.
Just went for the first time- totally lived up to all the hype here! It was full of warm and engaging staff and the food was fantastic and plentiful!
Two big thumbs up!
If you haven't been here, and can make it between the hours of 11-2pm, Monday through Friday, YOU NEED TO GO. If you are planning on dining in, it would be a good idea to make a reservation. It can get very busy.
Everything about this place is awesome. It's SUPER clean, the ladies are VERY nice, and the food is delish. I have had everything on their menu - there isn't anything that doesn't taste good.
I recommend the Wyatt Street, or the Rodgers Point sandwiches. But, like I said, you cannot go wrong here!! They have the best iced tea and lemonade ... They also do catering!
Just trust me on this one, okay?

My Fiance just raves and raves about this place. We finally were able to go and I was so ve ry impressed. Excellent food and great service. Very tentative service and the ladies were very nice.
My Sandwich (Prosserville) was perfectly made and very good, however the Sandwich my Fiance (Wyatt Street) got is definitely what I'll be getting next time, so GOOD!
I would definitely recommend Rick's to anyone who has not yet been. Definitely a 5 Star Place.

Price *** (A little pricey for just lunch however the Food, Service and Atmosphere far out weigh the price)

This place is one of the cutest places to have lunch in the city that is Antioch.
The hours are short, 11-2. So make a reservation, and request the window seat if you can!
The same ladies are always the servers, and they are really nice. You get a little dish of carrots, cucumbers and ranch, which is a nice little touch.
Now the sandwiches. These gems are what makes Rick's to popular with the ladies who lunch. These delights between bread are so good that it makes sense they are always so busy. And you get a little cookie which is also really yummy.
It is true, the prices are on the high side. But this is a local place, so why not?
Really enjoy the sandwiches here! =D
Oh and they also do catering!
This place is one of my favorite lunch spots. We always make reservations since it is pretty small and gets full rather quickly. I have yet to be disappointed. My favorite sandwich is Rodger's Point. The cookies are to die for and the service is great!
The prices are a bit high; however, the experience is worth it.
Great food, great customer service and great location!
I came here once.
This place is hard to get to if you have work! its only open from 11-2pm
Very nice little place, nice decor and pictures, very cozy feel. But who gives a Sh!t bout that.
The menu looks very interesting with nice twists to traditional sandwiches and salads.
They start you off with complementary 2 carrots 2 cucumbers and ranch. (small but bonus points for being different)
I ordered the Second Street delight.
- Disappointing... its comparable to a turkey sandwich wrap platter that you get at the grocery store, but, smaller. ( you get two "slices") It had avocado which was nice but probably definitely not worth 10 bucks. It had this special armenian cracker bread that i hoped would be the pizazz that i was looking for. nope... just a soggy doughy cracker.
I probably ordered wrong but the waitress said it was popular, which leads me to think that the other items will be less than spectacular.
To TRY to focus on the positive would be to say that their chocolate chip cookie was alright and the service is great but, just like the decor... WHO GIVES...i come for the food.
Probably won't go back, cause it is way overpriced (and price usually isnt an issue when it comes to GOOD food).
.:Sigh:. Nice try Antioch...
A better alternative for a sandwich IMO would be Nature's Bounty which is just around the corner.

Love in a lunch...There is NOTHING on this menu I don't love....and they put special touches on everything...from the carrots and cucumbers to dip in ranch when you sit down...to great lemonade and ice tea....every lunch has fruit and some have veggies with them and come with a homemade cookie....the ladies that work there are busy yet friendly ...reservations are good to have during peak lunch hours...Cute place in Old Town part of Antioch near the river....adorable shops to browse in before or after...my sister and I come here often

I haven't been disappointed since I've been there. I was introduced to the place by my boyfriend and I have tried a few things. He said everything was good and everything I have ordered has been good.
I've had the Second Street Delight, Black Diamond, and Mt. Diablo. The Mt. Diablo I had choose to have half a sandwich and a salad. I liked the salad. When you first sit down and they take your drink order they give you baby carrot sticks and cucumbers with ranch and then they tell you the soups of the day and the quiche.
I'd go back again and again. The best part that I like is the home baked cookie at that comes with the sandwich. It's soft and fresh. Nothing beats a cookie for desert.
Yummy and heaping sandwiches, but a bit overpriced (around $8). You do get a cookie and some fruit with your sandwich, though, so it is like getting a full meal.
My favorite place to eat in Antioch. I've been going for 13+ years. The service is impeccable. The food fresh and tasty. Try the garlic bread (get 2 orders if you go with a friend) and the Mt. Diablo. Did I mention - you'll get fruit and a cookie. They want you to have a healthy and fulfilling lunch - it's obvious from the great amount of detail an care they take when preparing their homemade meals. The owners are like family, the meals like a holiday dinner. It's just that comforting. Now that's good eating. :)
