I am dedicated to Richmond Produce. It is so CHEAP. You can't get this anywhere else. My roommates and I always talk about how Chico's is cheap, too, but so unreliable when it comes to good produce.
I've also tried the place around Geary/4th...not good.
The produce here is always very good, and I feel like the last time I went, it was even better. All the food looked so pristine! My roommate also pointed out that sometimes they have organic produce. They revised the set-up a little. They also used to take cash only, but now they take debit and credit.
You can also pick up basics here like cheese, yogurt, milk, bread. You can even find dried fruits and nuts and other goodies.
Sigh, I don't know if I could live without this produce market.
For years, I have gone to this local produce merchant due to the low prices and wide variety of good quality Fruits and vegetables. I would suggest this place to anyone.
Nice produce here. Good select of sausages too and butcher meats in the back. Staff could be friendlier.
Now that I moved to the Richmond, I find myself frequenting this conveniently located market. Their prices on produce are really good actually, and sometimes they have super deals (like 99 cent strawberries). You have to be a little careful though because not everything is always really fresh (particularly fruit).
They also have a limited amount of basic grocery items (NO frozen food) and quite a selection of interesting specialty grocery items. All in all, if you are in a pinch, you can probably make do by stopping in here.
Oh my sounds like someone doesn't wash their food before they eat it. Please all this food has been through so much crap if you don't wash before you eat you deserve to get sick.
This place is awesome. For the price the quality is EXCELLENT! Fruits and veggies galore, sometimes i come in and don't know what to buy because there is just too much stuff.
It's even cheaper thanthe chinese markets on clement. Seriously if you need produce and you chose Safeway or Whole foods over thise place you deserve a brick to the face,
Little shops like these are just synonymous with living in SF. I used to shop at Irving Street (and 22nd to be exact) at one of these little produce shops, but it's much more than just a produce shop. It sells a variety of cheeses, olives, and breads too.
Although the fruit here isn't as fresh as the ones on Irving St, it is still convenient and there is an abundance of variety. You just have to pick through to find the ones which aren't bruised. If you live in the area then shops like these are a blessing. We were in the area and it was definitely convenient because if we had been coming here especially, the parking situation would've just pissed me off immensely.
Prices are very cheap and you just can't beat a place which carries everything you need for one stop shopping. 3.5 stars
You know how there are a few boxes of fruits and veggies outside the store? Last week I saw one of the peaches fall on the ground and roll toward the street. An employee then picked it up, looked around, and tossed it back into the peach pile.
Gross.
I'm still gonna come here... I just wont buy anything outside.

OMFG! Awesome quality. Awesome prices. Awesome value.
Thanks Yelpers for steering me into Richmond Produce. I found myself near there today and thought I would just pop in for an item or two but ended up with about 15 items and 3 bags full of produce and food staples (Dutch jam, pita bread, natural tortilla chips, pasta, spaghetti sauce, etc.) and my jaw literally dropped when I saw the price....$21.33. This would have been easily $50 at the Marina Safeway. I was surprised that they actually had so many items beyond produce and even the non-produce items were amazingly cheap.
Two thumbs way up to Richmond Produce. I will be back again and again.
I try to come across town at least once a week to stock up on good/cheap produce.
I got strawberries for $.50 a basket two weeks ago!
I also hit up the laundromat next door for all my dry cleaning needs...dresses are $5.00, and so are 2pc suits!
This is one of the three places at which I regularly buy produce (the other two being 25th and Clement Produce and El Chico at 22nd & Clement). I like it because the quality (and appearance) of the produce is usually pretty good (unlike El Chico), and the prices are often better than at 25th and Clement. They also stock a wide variety of European and Middle Eastern food, which frequently inspires me to try something new (i.e., farmer's cheese, kasha, haloumi). Best of all, they frequently have really good deals on berries during the summer. For example, today they had $1 boxes of strawberries that looked really good and there was a woman buying up whole flats of them so she could make jam.
Thank you Richmond Produce for helping me eat my fruits and veggies and for turning me on to new foods.
Great Richmond District market, if you don't mind lots of pushy people who won't move out of the way and who yell at you in Russian.
But this place always has a good, varied selection of produce and most staple goods I usually need.
Excellent selection of tea and decent selection of chocolate and cookies (yes, they are staples too!) and the people that work here are helpful and efficient.
This produce stand has some great prices and like Royal Market it saves me from lugging groceries for blocks. Some of the items, however, aren't the "freshest" fresh. But they do have a huge selection of produce and some cheeses. I wish they carried even more items.
I love the fact that I can get fresh & delicious produce, rice, nuts, beans, bread, milk AND international cheeses, cookies, and sauces for only a portion of what I used to pay at Safeway.
Avocados 79 each !
Basket of fresh bluberries $1.99 !
Spices 99 each !
(I sound like a cheap radio commercial)
Seriously, it doesn't get better than that. As you can tell, I love great deals. Most importantly, I love great produce!
There are a few produce markets that we frequent during our daily commute to and from work. The prices are good and the produce is fresh. It's best to shop there in the morning as the fruits are freshest then. Avoid the outside fruits in the afternoon as the fruit have been exposed to the sun and picked through.
They also have a wide variety of European and Middle Eastern foods. Plenty of street parking and a public parking lot 1/2 block around the corner.
It's a small store, but the selection of produce is good and fresh. Like many other food stores in this neighborhood, they sell Middle Eastern and Eastern European spices, condiments, and other food items. They also sell dairy and baked goods, including bagels and pita bread.
I don't know why, but every time I come in here, this sudden urge to make borsch overwhelms me and I end up buying dill and several pounds of beets. Go figure.
Richmond Produce doesn't take credit or ATM cards, but there are both a Wells Fargo and a B of A nearby.
Thanks to the excellent Yelp reviews, Richmond Produce has become my favorite neighborhood grocers to buy produce. I bought 4 huge Fuji apples for 99 cents a pound. At Whole Foods, I would buy the same Fuji apples at around $2.49 a pound.
The place isn't anything fancy. So, don't expect a whole lot of frill. Their selection isn't huge, but what they do carry is priced fairly.
Richmond Produce also carries a bunch of tasty Eastern European products. I tried to leave the store with just my produce, but couldn't resist the Choco Leibniz (Dark Chocolate Butter Biscuits). I'm eating one right now as I type...mmmmm....
This place has the best produce I have ever seen! The service is amazing and cant be beat. This place is packed with goodies and the price is right. I love this place!!!!
Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of cooking and eating fresh, healthy meals. Your roma tomatoes are beautiful and plump. The spinach, chard and string beans are oh so bright and crisp. The bell peppers are tight and firm. And the orange and nectars bursts of juice with each bite. Your produce are as colorful and perfect as the rainbow and its arch.
And super cheap too!
It really is a wonderful market. Chock to the brim with fruit and veges, nuts, dairy items, some breads, jam, olives..all good stuff. Significantly cheaper than Safeway, They have a wonderful selection of grapes. There are no carts so you kind of have to schlep with those little baskets. Yes avocados are cheaper, but they are also smaller. No matter. $20 will get you a ton of salad stuff, a loaf of bread and some fruit. Worth the schlep. The Mexican guy will tell you which oranges are the sweet ones. I am not one to run back and forth to the market so when I am here, I fill a basket, stick it behind the counter and fill another one. If they'e not too busy they will hold your purchases while you get your car. Very nice people running the place. They had the worlds best baklava here at one point, hope they get it back.
Why pay double the price at Safeway and get terrible quality fruits and veggies when you can go to Richmond Produce and get something good and cheap??
One of my favorite produce places! Woot.
I used to love going early in the morning and competing with the old chinese and russian women for the best fruit and veggies. It's worth the bruised ribs and sprained toes to get at the freshest produce in the richmond district.
Now I'm older and wiser and let them pick the vegetables while I do some cart shopping (taking the best out of others carts while they are haggling over the last unbruised apple). Word. Smarter not harder.
I spent $18.50 and walked out with an assortment of fruits and veggies in 3(!) large bags. And cheese, they have great cheese grommit. But be careful of some of their cream cheeses unless you actually want russian cream cheese (not for everybody, very tangy and heavy).
Same clerks for the last seven years, business is brisk and if you're not happy you're not paying attention.
A standard produce stand. I have to give extra brownie points to the checkout people, however. The couple before me had a shopping cart (where'd they get the shopping cart?) filled to the brim with produce and they split it up into 5 different sub-groups and paid for each separately. They also seem to be figuring out what the sub-groups were as they went along.
Did the checkout woman give them even a stink eye about all this? OK, maybe just a little stink eye, but she was sure a whole lot more patient about it all than I ever would've been.
Great local market that specializes in Middle Eastern foods. We call it Mongolian Market for short (I apologize if this offends anyone) because it seems the clerks are as stated...
The folks here are friendly and are always willing to help if you ask a question. Do's: fresh feta, apples, cucumbers for pickling, grapes, salad dressing, Vietnamese baguette, hummus, and fresh Parmesan cheese. Don'ts: bagels, soy milk$$, and no meat
I've never been whistled at a market before, but one busy Saturday, one of the women there whistled LOUD at me to get me attention to move to another register. Some people scoffed at this but I laughed and was happy to move to another register. She saved me some time in the process.
Open till 8 and always a good deal!
For some reason, I can't ever walk by this place and not pick some thing up. I love the fact that there is such a huge selection of cheese when I am in need and don't have time to run to TJs. The fruit is good and super cheap. There is also a good selection of dried fruit, nuts, pasta, dolmas, breads and veggies for times in need. So very convenient, literally 1/2 a block away from my house. I like this little produce store - a lot.
amazing! most everything is 99 cents or less per pound and last time their avocados were 79 cents each! their selection of fruits and veggies is amazing (even the more obscure ones like daikon.) the food is always fresh and good quality. we picked up a huge bag of red potatoes, a large bag of black cherries and 4 avocados for about 10 bucks total. after accidentally purchasing a 4 dollar tomato at safeway i refuse to buy produce there anymore. but i LOVE this place!
When I take my old auntie shopping to this veggie store then to Safeway, I realize how much the regular stores jack up the veggie prices. This is a great little quaint, crowded veggie store with fresh produce and good prices with a local flavor of the shoppers of the area. All the little old, doddering Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Mongolian, Italians and everyone else seems to come here. They are regulars. They also carry baked goods and things like milk, cheeses, hummus, rice, pita bread, and various imported delicacies.
Neighborhood market with very affordable produce. I used to go to whole foods, but I would sometimes spend $3.00 per apple! Today, I bought 6 vine-ripened tomatoes, 4 red potatoes, 2 onions and a box of raspberries for $4.50. They have a good produce selection, however if you are looking for a wide range of cheeses or canned goods, this is not the place.
hello. even though i work for whole foods, and
could buy all of my imperfect produce for 25 cents, i come here
often.
there is no such thing as seasonal variety here, just the freshest, and some times organic local produce at prices that cannot be beat. if you need mushrooms, onions, carrots... apples oranges, bananas, you are good as gold.
they have so much more to offer, i;m just giving you a feel for the place.
if you want some sort of unconventional ingredient, like lemongrass, shitake mushrooms, or miso, they do not have it, they do have basil, kabocha, leeks, dandelion greens, tofu, mangoes, get the picture?
ok, this is it. i love my mongolian ladies.
I can see why Richmond Produce (RP) gets high marks. Convenience-wise, there are very few options on this side of the Outer Richmond. To be accurate, half of their produce selection is second-quality (the stuff Whole Foods screens out), and is priced accordingly. Good resource, however, when you are in desparate need for the random grocery item you forgot to get on your regular shopping trip. Notice that the jars and cans on the RP shelves move fairly slowly...the thick layer of dust atop is evidence. Better to visit true farmers' markets and natural food stores...the slightly longer trek to TJs on Masonic is worth it...light years away in quality not to mention price...Haas avocados are 50 cents each at TJs!
Super fresh produce at super inexpensive prices. No more excuses for shopping at the supermarket and bringing home mealy tomatoes that resemble those styrofoam spheres you used in your elementary school model of the solar system.
the store is very clean and organized
fruits and other grocery are pretty fresh and delicious.
prompt and fast services, friendly staffs
very convenient location.
Good selection of fresh produce, dairy and baked goods with better than decent prices. Troll the place for imported delicacies - Asian, Middle Eastern, Russian etc. I often decide what I am going to make for dinner just by checking what looks good that day or peeking into the baskets of the lil ladies doing their daily shopping. On more than a few occasions I've picked up recipes and ideas from the pensioners who love to talk about food. Buy some endive - get a great story :-)
This is a hustle and bustle, no-frills, get your staples and get out sort of place. Not a huge variety, but they have most basic things you'll need. Plus a dairy case with milk, eggs, yogurt and cheese. Don't forget the bulk size feta cheese in the little cooler off to the side! They've a plentiful selection of European jams, honey and cookies, too. The bonus is that this produce is really inexpensive, from my comparison, at least half of what supermarkets charge. Stock up!
I love this little market! It's the best place to get produce, delicious european cookies, savory rice cracker mixes, feta cheese! The Russian checkout girls always look at me funny when I bring my own bag to carry my groceries home. This used to bother me but now I enjoy the predictability of it all....
