Myrtle Ave (J, M, Z)
Ghetto Gym, for the hard core bodybuilder, not for the faint of heart.
If you are looking to straight up work out, then this is the place to be.
The weights are more than enough to pound out serious muscle gain.
Ghetto gym in the midst of hypergentrifying Bushwick/Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is all on one level of former factory building. Mostly freeweights and Hammer Strength and Body Masters machines in so-so condition. Lots of treadmills. Four elliptical machines on the verge of breakdown. Lots of dust everywhere and the air conditioning isn't the best. Several of the more outdated machines (esp. pulley style) are in bad need of lubrication (or at least WD-40) Two dingy Everlast exercise mats serve everyone so get in line! Bathrooms are not well maintained and sitting on the toilet without knocking open the stall door is a feat-very cramped. Despite all of this there is a congenial atmosphere, reggaeton and salsa music blares from the less than stellar sound system and it remains a deal at $99 for 6 months.
