Well, I must admit I was very surprised to see such up and down reviews of this place. I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but when I'm slummin' in jeans and a tee, this place suits my needs perfectly.

Great size portions with awesome prices to match. Fresh salsa with your meal and cheap beer...does it get any better when thinking of Mexican food?! I should think not. The cheese steak enchilada is a meaty cheesy heaven that will definitely send you into fatty shock, just before you pass out into a food coma! However I must say I am boring...I love their standard hard shell tacos, ordered with extra fresh jalapenos and sour cream...mmm I'm drooling thinking about it and it's 11am...geez. I need to talk to a professional.

The only problem I have with this place is the staff. Not very friendly, you can see the disgust on their face that they have to work and actually do their jobs. Other than that, this place is A-OK in my little black book of food affairs!

The place is very dark. The atmosphere is slightly dive-y and you get the idea that it's a locals place. The service was mediocre and the margarita I had was not good - too much ice and barely any tequila.

The Mexican food was great but the beer selection was pretty bad: only five taps of nothing great - boyfriend and I  moved across the street to Braveheart to keep drinking once we'd finished dining at Ricardo's. Only went in to try something new and wouldn't go back or recommend.

I've only been there once, and that was enough.

The ground beef had no flavor, the rice looked like it was out of a Lipton's bag...it's typical midwestern fake Mexican food.  I'm told they make a decent margarita.

Service was awful the night we were in there.  There was only one server, an older woman who had no business being in the waitressing industry.

There is parking back behind the building, if you can't find a spot on Main Street in front of the building.

Great place for good Mexican food! Everyone has a good time at Ricardo's...nice size bar, too, with a TON of selections of beer and spirits. Food is pretty good for Mexican food (which I'm not partial to). Parking is tight, though. Ricardo's, also known to the locals as the Tavern House, is located at the intersection of Main & Penn Streets in Hellertown, and there's about 5 spaces on each side of Main Street, about 5 on Penn Street, and about 10 or 15 in their private lot, otherwise you're walking from street parking up or down Penn or Main Street.

    Great eats!

I didn't care for this place. I went there thinking it was a dive bar but it turned out to be a divey Mexican restaurant with a tiny uncomfortable bar.
I love Mexican food but did not eat anything so this review is based solely on their bar.
It took a few minutes to get a beer because the barmaid was too busy talking to a friend. I ordered a Modelo Especial but she tapped me a Negra Modelo. No big deal because I like that beer as well but I obviously was in the mood for an Especial since that is what I ordered. When she gave me change, she didn't give me any one dollar bills...just a $5 and 50 cents. So she got stuck with a 50 cent tip since I had no singles on me. $4.50 for a Negra Modelo? In Hellertown??!!
As I mentioned previously, the bar was not comfortable and it wasn't really a dive. I love dives but this was just a sad place. The large TV was blasting in my ear and I couldn't even watch it due to its placement.
The food looked good and I noticed they have vegan options so they get some points for that.
If you're looking for a place to grab a few beers and relax, this probably isn't your best option...but you're in Hellertown...where do you go? Beer Mussels?
Maybe I will go back and sample their food but most likely I'd be getting take out.

I've eaten here for years now.  I really love their food.  I especially like their tostadas, tacos & burritos. You can order chicken, beef or bean with or without cheese.  The plates always come out steaming hot with a wonderful mole sauce & melting cheese. Yum.
The downfall is their service.  Time and again, my friends & I come in & sit at the bar. The bartender sees us yet makes us sit there for a good 10 minutes before addressing us. Even then she's not friendly.
There have been times that I've boycotted this place because of the service but the food always brings me back.
