this place has all the elements of a high end steak house, but is extremely reasonably in price.

first of all the service here was perfect. by that i mean everyone working there was working together with integrity and professionalism. the hostess has no qualms of re-arranging our seating to our liking, and did it for anyone who asked, even if they did not have a reservation.

our bread basket ( which is one of the most AMAZING breadbaskets ive had, and trust me ive had my share ) was never empty, and everyone from the busboys to waiters made sure we were taken care of. the bread basket ranges from good, to AMAZING, and we had to order it a couple of times before it came out amazing-- you cant really gauge when it will come out perfectly melt in your mouth doughy and savory on the inside while toasty and crispy and slightly ever so salty on the outside, but when it does arrive in this manner you better eat it up quick before the core cools off and the perfection dissapates into a fleeting cloud of warm fragrant air that you can smell ,but is much bettter eaten!

so with the bread basket aside, all the portions here are rather generous, considering the pasta dishes are mostly less thant 15 $, however all the pastas were cooked to perfection-- they offer 5 different pastas here, so depending on your mood you can defintely get the noodle of your fancy! i ordered the clam red sauce, while my companions ordered the creamy salmony dish ... both were amazing, and the steaks here, looked like something from peter lugers. huge moist hunks of heavenly beef!

the salmon was amazingly generous throughout the pasta, it looked as if they put i kid you not the whole filet in there.. and did i mention the sides???

so for the sides, i could have had a meal of just sides-- cream of spinach was not overly salty as most places are, it was well balanced and delicate, and went very well with the lovely bread. we also ordered planatins and for what we paid, my oh my was that a generous heap of fried bananers! they were not the least bit oily-- they were cooked with an attention to detail that was almost frightening... can they really taste this good and not be the LEAST bit greasy!? they tasted good because they were cooked well, and not because they were oiled up and junk....

wow.... i love this place. dont be afraid to venture out to harlem to eat here, it was well worth my time and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates a good dining experience.

and did i mention the service was amazing??? yea i think i did... .but yea it was GREAT. OH OH and the drinks were super pretty.... very professional bartender....A++

Tasted a bit of filet at a recent event.  Even served well-done, it was delectable!  Topped with a balsamic glaze and accompanied by mushrooms and some green beans, it was butter-soft and delicious.  I can't imagine how tasty it would be in a restaurant cooked to order instead of mass-prepped for a tasting event!

I can't wait to try the rest of the menu!  After looking it over online, it seems quite affordable for NYC.

One word: butter.
On everything from the churro shaped garlic bread on your table within a minute of sitting down, to the clams with bacon, to the steak...butter.
So good and so rich. Cut it with a fresh arugula salad and a good glass of red wine and you are in for a treat at Ricardo Steakhouse.
Our server and the evening's floor manager both checked on us once our beef empanadas appetizer arrived. Excellent fresh, spicy flavors and ingredients. The meat options are expensive and delicious and frankly enough to share between two people.
Vibrant but cozy interior and patio seating in the back.

Good for a date, out of towners who want to see a little of Spanish Harlem and anybody who likes very good food.

I usually reserve my comments about a restaurant until I've attended it about 2 or 3 times.  Yesterday was my 3rd time going to Ricardo's and after the 1st & 2nd the food was yet AGAIN fantastic!!!

We took my parents there, who live in the area and two of my cousins from Panama and they all absolutely LOVE IT and were floored by the incredible flavors on their dishes.

I had the T-Bone special (it came little over done, but still quite delectable) and it included, some grilled shrimp  w/ a pico de gallo topping, mashed potatoes & garlic string beans w/ sun dried tomato slivers.  AMAZING!

This place is a true gem in Spanish Harlem!  If you're planning to be in the neighborhood (even if you weren't planning to) definitely make the trip to Ricardo's for a delicious meal... you will not be sorry!

Finally got a chance to hit this place up last Tuesday. My close friend and I needed a cool place to treat a friend to dinner and we decided on this steak place in Spanish Harlem.

Very nice atmosphere, and live music was starting as when we finished dinner (One of the musicians rolling back and forth clearly blunted-up though and his stench emitted everywhere). For dinner, my friends had the special platter which includes pork chops, steak, plantains and rice and beans. I decided to try the mixed grill which includes a chicken breast, a pork chop, chorizo and little piece of steak with a side of spinach. Food overall was decent. The sampler appetizer was okay. The crab cake was the best item. I didn't try the clams casino but my friends weren't impressed. I did like the bread basket a lot. Toasted foccacia bread I believe it was. The sangria was okay but not really worth $8 a glass. White wine at $11 a glass for my friend? They must be trying to make us forget we're in the UES. The worst course of the night had to be the desserts as the tiramisu was all whipped cream and barely anything else. The tartufo was alright but if you get chocolate coated ice cream wrong, then we got major probs. I say skip the appts, drinks, desserts and just stick to their delicious entrees. Otherwise dinner won't be much of a bargain once you order up.

Service was very friendly and always a plus. The waiter did rag on me a couple of times for not ordering the special platter like my 3 other friends but all in good fun. What can I say? I wanted to be different and eat something else. Their entrees did look slightly better but it's the delusion of the plantains, rice and beans I didn't get.

I tried this so called  "hidden UES gem" the other night with my wife. The place was charming and cozy as advertised... a bit out of place amongst the intimdating projects. Nonetheless, we decided to give Ricardo's a try. My wife ordered the NY Strip and myself the T-bone. It was just OK. While both cuts of meat were fine and the sides ok...I can't for the life of me understand how you can justify 5 or even 4 stars? Steaks tasted as if they were grilled...not quickly char-broiled. How many stars does Daniel, Jean George, or even Sparks deserve? You absolutley get what you pay for here...prefer to pay the extra 10 bucks for a better steak.

Went here based on Yelp reviews and once again everyone was dead on.

Great atmosphere ... great food ... great fun

Went with a group of 5 - got seated at a roomy corner booth. We started with the sampler appetizer platter of crab cakes, calamari, oysters and something else i can't remember .... but everything was excellent and plenty to share between us all ....

Picking an entree was a challenge - so many choices and temptations - went for the lobster ravioli in vodka cream sauce ... amazing ... huge chunks of lobster you could actually taste - others at the table got lamb chops (slightly overcooked), sliced steak (served with plantains - nom) and the raw bar slection (HUGE portions)  .....  the atmosphere is very laid back, night we were there a jazz/ r&b duo and in between r&b playing ..a bit loud but a patio out back would be a good alternative if looking for a quieter spot ...

would go here again next visit to the city....

I loved this place.  The grill is right behind the bar, so forget about going for drinks and not eating anything.  The meaty aromas will suck you in.

I had the Ricardo's special, which is a combo of grilled skirt steak and a pork chop.  The skirt steak was amazingly tender and juicy, but the pork chop was a little on the dry side.  It also came with mashed potatoes and a side of rice and beans, so I would have been happily stuffed if my fiancee hadn't stolen half my food.

Service was fast and friendly, no complaints there.

Plan on smelling like meat when you leave.  Because of, you know, the whole grill-in-the-middle-of-the-dining-room thing.

Went here for my boyfriend's birthday, based on Yelp reviews...and they were spot on!

The food was delicious - I think we all got steaks, and they were cooked perfectly, everyone was raving. The ambiance was really cool, the only downside was that it was kind of loud, and it was hard to hear each other. However, the service was fabulous - our party ended up being less people than expected, and they took away one of our tables. To "make up for it" they gave us all free shots! Can't get much better than that.

Sooo good. The prices were good, the Sangria was divine, the steak could rival any UES steak house. The staff was so attentive. The music was alive but not overdone. Came here for the first time for my birthday dinner and I have recommended this place to so many people. What I love about New York is that you can find gems anywhere - I hope the location doesn't turn some people off because they'd be missing out.

When in NY, I always try to visit Ricardo's. Now I know, NY ain't Texas "y'all" (lol), but I still find it quite strange, how many restaurants exist in such a TINY space. It works though!!!!! I'm one for personal space, but when I'm here, I just don't care (it's well worth it).

I usually order the avocado salad, then work my way up to the grilled chilean sea bass. When the food comes out, the presentation is lovely as well. Don't forget to order a glass of their sangria (has fresh pieces of fruit in it). It's really good as well.

All in all, I've always had a great experience here (except for 1 time....it was busy, so I'll let that 'S' go). Our wait staff was on point, and I will definitely be back when in NY again. This place pumps out a high quality product, at a decent value. Folks, quit tripping on the fact that this place is in Harlem. Harlem has MANY gems within it !!

I was planning on staying in last Friday, it was raining slightly cold ect.. But at the last minute a few friends and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner.  Not wanting to leave East Harlem someone suggested Ricardos. I wasn't so sure about this, being a vegetarian who just started eating fish again a about 2 months ago..  But they had many fish options so I joined in.
We called and were able to get a 8pm reservation for 5 at 6:30. Upon arriving the hostess who was incredibly friendly said our table wasn't ready quite yet and to have a seat at the bar. Not the biggest beer selection, but they do serve Presidente beer.
The restaurant itself is decorated with a local artists work on exposed brick walls.  The kitchen is exposed and separates the bar area from the dining area. I also noticed they have a large outdoor space that when the weather is nice I will def check out.
We were seated at our table a few minutes after our whole party had arrived. The service was great and so was the food! I ordered the Sea Bass which was severed with mashed potatoes, tomatoes, and green beans! My fish was cooked to perfection, and all the flavors melted together!  The portions were very big and the price was not to high.
I will defiantly go back again!

This is a cute hidden gem in East Harlem. The food is excellent!  Even my momma who will criticize a meal made by Gordon Ramsey and she loves that man dearly, even enjoyed this place!

I have had some great surf and turf here and their steak salad is not to be missed!  I have been here many times and have never been disappointed.  Very cute ambiance with white lights X-mas lights outside, adds some class to East Harlem for sure. Service is good and it's a cute date place also.  Inside it is dimly candle lit and cozy.  You'll be seduced by the sounds of Marc Anthony and other salsa greats as you sit back and enjoy their strong cocktails or even a glass of wine.

They are adding on to the space which means they will finally be able to accommodate their Friday and Saturday night club crowd, so excuse the mess but they do a good job of keeping it still looking nice.  When the kitchen shuts down, this turns into a prime dance spot in East Harlem with bouncers at the door. But I have only come here to eat dinner.

In the summer, dine on the outdoor patio out back!  It's pretty cute back there too.  Ricardo's really does stand out as one of the best restaurants I've eaten at and that says a lot.  Another East Harlem gem!

we were in nyc last weekend and had no idea where to go to dinner so i jumped on yelp and saw this place had great reviews and we had yet to make our way up to harlem. jumped in a cab, almost missed the place, but then the rest was heaven!!! incredible food and great service!!

i had the filet based on the other reviews and it was spectacular and my fiancé had the sea bass. i don't normally like fish (always tastes "fishy" to me) but it was sooo good. we were just back and forth eating off each others plates. the bread was good, the martinis were strong, and when it's your birthday instead of singing they play 50 cent (which happened twice while we were there).

can't wait to nyc again so i can go back!

We were looking for a good, relatively casual place to eat dinner uptown with some friends who had to catch the bus to the Cirque de Soleil show that evening (bus picks up at 125 and Lex).  So after some Yelping, I came to Ricardo Steak House.

What a great little place!  The atmosphere was very pleasant - the front windows were open and a nice breeze was coming through.  Service was very attentive.

We had the crabcake appetizer (delicious) and an order of plantains (fabulous) to start.  Around the table we had the red snapper, the NY strip, crabcakes, and a kobe beef burger.  Everything was perfect and tasted great - nice-sized portions, not ridiculously expensive.

Overall, we had a great experience at Ricardo.  Will definitely go back if I'm ever that far up again...

Found Ricardo's on http://restaurant.com where you can purchase a coupon for $10 and get $25 off your meal. Based on this (the coupon was on sale and I only paid $3!) and the reviews by me fellow yelpsters, my boyfriend I headed up for my 30th bday dinner. Reservations suggested because the inside, which, to be honest, is all Manhattan-like with the tables close together, dancing around the waiters running with plates and the too-loud music. And this was Thursday night. We were greeted immediately by the manager who shook our hands and walked us to the back patio (where we had reservations), and were NOT disappointed. It's very spacious, quiet (no music) and open. We brought our own bottle of wine for a $25 uncorking fee, but the sangria looked devine. The garlic bread, oh the FREE garlic bread...practice as much self restraint as possible because you'll want to have room for the meal. We had shrimp for an appetizer which was ok. The waiter was BEYOND amazing at offerint suggestions about steaks based on our likes, and we were both pleased with the results. I had the filet mignon which was in a nice, rich sauce, but not too rich that you had to stop, but just so right. And the potatoes and spinach it came with were flavorful, but not so that it took away from the taste of the steak. My beau had the boneless ribeye...fan-tastic. The night was topped off by the manager and staff coming out to sing for me for my birthday, and they brought me a FREE slice of chocolate cake. My meal was $26, and my boyfriends was $30. You cannot get a steak that good that comes WITH sides any place in Manhattan.

Don't worry that this place is in east harlem. It's 2 avenues off the 6 train at 110th. Amazing, amazing, amazing... Will re-do again and again.

Ricardo's is easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. Nestled on a block full of bodegas, apartment buildings, and construction, Ricardo's really does appear as an "oasis" on 2nd Ave.

When you walk inside you will be greeted by smiling hosts, warmed by glowing electric fireplaces, and drawn to the eclectic art covering the walls. If you don't have a reservation, you are ushered to the bar where you will be pleasantly surprised by the strong, fresh, perfectly mixed mojito, and wide array of beers and liquors.

Upon seating, your eyes will dance around the candlelight and towards the glasses clinking on the giant patio. This is the spot to be, heated in the winter and open to the air in the summer.

But what you really came here for... is the steak. Best filet mignon I've ever eaten, hands down. And I even (go ahead, cringe steak connoisseurs) order it medium well. All Ricardo's steaks have a latin kick or something extra that makes them taste even better. And where else can you get a REAL steak at a REAL steakhouse for 28 bucks??

Raphael, the owner, just helped me plan my company holiday party at one of his other restaurants. Ask for him. He is great and will make sure your dining experience was as wonderful as mine.

Is there anything wrong with Ricardo's? Yes. The music is really, really loud. You need to lean all the way over your table in order to hear your guest. This could be dangerous when holding steak knives.

Also, not much around this little East Harlem gem. Stick to Ricardo's and head to a different part of town for after-dinner drinks.

My boyfriend and I happened to be in spanish harlem and he is a HUGE steak lover, so we decided to try this restaurant. It wasn't what I expected of a traditional steakhouse, but had a really warm ambiance. Perfect date spot! The food was really affordable and my boyfriend has a T-bone steak. He likes his red meat....really red, and the kitchen prepared it just the way he likes it. I had the Chilean Seabass, so flavorful! For drinks, we wanted to try something new, and our waiter suggested the superfruit mojito. It was a mojito but spiced up with a new liqeur called tyku, really refreshing!! Overall, for a last minute decision, we werepleasantly surprised by ricardos and would definitely come back if we are ever in the area.

As we drove down (or up?) 2nd Avenue my appetite waned. It was out of fear. The neighborhood is sketchy at best.

"It's not here, are you sure you have the right address?" I asked with a slight quiver in my voice.

"Yes. Shut up and stop being so scared, you're from the 'hood. Stop acting like a tourist," my bff snapped back.

"Oh yeah, I forget." And I do. But I sucked it up and got out the car and tried my best to be tough looking. But as I walked into Ricardo's all my worries lifted away.

The space is very cute. The food is really good and the prices are GREAT! I had the skirt steak and pork chop, good stuff. I'm hungry now just thinking about it. I say go and see for yourself.

When we first decided to move to the neighborhood I was a bit sketched out and hesitant to leave the comfort of East Village...but then I saw Ricardo's and it has served as my nightlight ever since. As the previous yelper stated...this place is definitely an oasis on 2nd Ave. Most of the other restaurants/bodegas in the neighborhood have old-school overhangs and cheap advertisement in the windows and very cafeteria-like seating. Ricardo's stands out just by the view from outside in.

The dimly lit restaurant looks quiet and cozy from the outside...it is cozy...but def not quiet. The night we came here they played loud music and everyone was having a great time but somehow in the midst of all of this you still enjoy a romantic or intimate dinner. I don't know how they perfectly mix the two but they do...come here with a group of friends and enjoy loud laughter or come here on a date and enjoy the conversation. The place is the perfect size and any table you get is a great table. The selection has something for everyone and the prices are very affordable even though the decor and atmosphere suggest pricey midtown joint.

Everyone was overall satisfied with the food...it's def not the best steak or lamb we've had but everything was cooked properly and the texture was good. The service...from the hostess to the servers...is friendly. If you're looking for a special dinner spot but want to be budget conscious...even if you don't care how much you drop...check this place out.

Definitely one of the best places in the area.  I usually get delivery, since I can rarely persuade my downtown cronies to come uptown for dinner...but I when I finally went in person I was impressed (and understood why they are too busy to deliver on the occasional Thursday or Friday night).  The back area is cute, and is probably even cuter now that they've 'untented' it for warm weather...of course,  sitting next to a table full of Jets helps to sell a place! ;)  My only complaint is that the music is too loud...you can hardly talk to the people you are with!  But, in all honesty, I think most of the restaurants in the area of guilty of the same thing so maybe I'm just getting old.

The steaks are excellent and always cooked exactly as you requested (they even impressed some Midwestern folks who were visiting--and they know their steaks!); I also love the clams casino, creamed spinach and Angus pinchos.  Also, the owner (or manager?) is very personable and makes sure everyone is having fun.

If you live nearby then check it out...or better yet visit the hood! ;)

OMG best steakhouse ever...chaaaaa.....For those of you living in the UES that walk by Parlor steakhouse daily and stare at the diners in wonderment (okay maybe that's just me) Ricardo is a great alternative. The steak is fantastic, great quality meat, good portion size, attentive service, but in an atmosphere that is far from frumpy. It's not casual like Outback Steakhouse casual, but casual enough that I saw a group of business types in their non-business clothes enjoying a "man's dinner" and a trio of twenty-somethings celebrating a birthday. One big bonus of Ricardo's, instead of the usual steak & potatoes, you can get plantains and arroz con frijoles, me gusta mucho.

Ricardo's is one of maybe two reasons I'll trek back up to East Harlem after I move downtown later this spring. In a neighborhood filled primarily with hole-in-the-wall taquerias (which are awesome in their own rite), Ricardo's provides a true neighborhood restaurant experience. I've never once had a bad meal here, no matter how crowded, empty, early, or late it is, or how drunk or drunker I am.

It's perfect for dates, small parties, big groups, or for that one evening in late 2006 when I emotionally gorged myself on a porterhouse-for-two and a pitcher of red sangria because my girlfriend had just abruptly taken the dog and moved to Arizona.

So, um, anywho, there's also this great patio out back and an excellent selection of fresh mojitos...if you're into that sort of thing. Which I'm not, because I'm tough and grizzled and all I drink is double-barrel bourbon. Neat. On Fire. Down the length of a sword.

(But try the mango mojito, it's super!)

Ricardo's is my go-to restaurant. Took my boo here for his birthday... I scored major points. I've even organized a few group outings here. This place can be romantic and at the same time fun. The music is great. The steak is always good. They have a few nice mojito flavors, but strawberry is the best in my opinion. One of it's best features is the price. For a steak house these prices are real right. If your looking for quality above the park look here. Its got all the flavor of a old school steak house minus the stuffy atmosphere.

Before you go you should probably know that if you're not looking you might not realize you've found a jewel. The area is still emerging (but one time I saw Fat Joe's brother Fat Schmo here).

HUNGRY HIPPO PICK: anything (serving portions are huge!)

I had the best Chilean Seabass in Lemon-Tomato-Caper Sauce EVER!  Beautifully cooked large filet of seabass, sprinkled with fragrant herbs nestled on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes and crisp French green beans.  Fish was so tender and moist, I practically licked the plate clean.

Used a http://Restaurant.com certificate for $25 off, my date had a New York Strip and we shared the Lump Crabmeat Cakes on Arugula.  Crabcakes were ok, but NY Strip was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and super juicy.

Servers are particulary attentive and adorably eager to make your dining experience enjoyable.

A slice of a higher end menu that prices reflect but its seems a fair trade.  I've not been let down yet on trying a few menu items from the Uber selection of steaks, to the lobster ravioli I've been pleasantly suprised with everything I have gotten from Ricardo's.

I love this place especially for a romantic evening  with ur partner. tuesdays is my favorite day to go or order and pick up.  Everything on the menu is made superbly and all the food is fresh they have an open kitchen so you can see everything thats made there. If you go please oreder the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes which is the best I have ever had outside of my mothers!

Prices are ok not too pricey but for the atmospere and the way the wait staff treats you its worth it.

I often go to this restaurant since I live in the neighborhood. Music is a bit loud, but staff are always so energetic and attentive. The place is always packed on weekends. Not only steaks, but also their pastas are pretty good. Seafood Linguine is my favorite. I also love garlic bread that they serve first. They have full bar, too. Great service, excellent foods and drinks!

One of my favorite restaurants in East Harlem. Fantastic steaks, fresh seafood, great appetizers (I like small portions, what can I tell you?). If you're in the mood, I suggest sitting at the counter and watch the chefs while they're cooking. Super friendly service, sometimes the music is a bit too loud. But I love them love them love them!

Nestled among old-skool East Harlem walk-ups along 2nd Ave is a total Manhattan diamond in the rough.  Ricardo's is high class at casual prices:  Cozy, upscale and unpretentious decor and a menu as diverse and delicious as the customers are on a Friday and Saturday night!  Friendly staff, generous wine pours and a sleek feel of Uptown Chic sum up my visits to Ricardo's.  Enjoy!  Note:  The filet mignon is off the hook!
