1 review for Rhodes State Office Tower
Rhodes State Office Tower is Columbus' tallest skyscraper at 41 stories. It is a gray, non-descript office building that towers only slightly over the city. I mention it because you can still sneak your way in and ride an elevator to the very top and enjoy a falcon eye view of the city.
I say sneak because since 9/11 security has been a little tight. My advice is to walk confidently through the revolving doors and veer to the elevators on the left. The first set of elevators only gets you so far. They won't stop at certain floors because they hold top secret state offices. Or something like that. Elevator set two is a free ride all the way to floor 41.
Once at the top do not expect large viewing pavilions because they do not exist. The windows are long and large enough however to give this little lady vertigo.
The 41st floor is also home to the Peregrine falcons that nest and reside outside of the tower. This is also good info if somebody asks what you are doing. Saying you wanted to view our famous falcons is a perfectly good reason to be eying the tower.
The lobby of the tower is massive and open. Sunlight streams in to showcase art by local school children and grown ups alike. I especially enjoy the bronze statue of Mr. Rhodes. It reminds me of Hans Solo frozen in the carbon. See it and tell me I am wrong.
Remember enter with confidence or wear binoculars and go to the top of our tallest skyscraper. You can park underground and gain access that way as well. However you get there you will not be sorry.
