Review from Jeremy R.
Baltimore, MD
I was very, very excited to try Revolver. Visiting a good friend who just moved to NW Ohio, I did some research and found that there were not a plethora of good restaurants only an overabundance of fast food chains (Big Boy anyone?). My friend had been to Revolver for brunch and said not only was the food really good (and made from local farms) it was "not your average Ohio" restaurant. It went to their website and checked out their menu and story. They were even reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
It's not a large place, so you will want to make reservations ahead of time. We called that morning and left a voicemail requesting a reservation for 7pm and they had to push us back to 7:30pm and it was a Thursday night (not exactly a happening night in Findley, Ohio).
Walking in you will notice the mid-century modern design, of which I am a fan. We were seated and immediately greeted by our cheery server. She was very nice and attentive.
As someone who is always looking to try something new - the pickled Cow's Tongue with pickled beets and pickled eggs. I've never had cow's tongue before and it had a nice subtle beef flavor. It was served with yummy butter toast. I would definitely recommend getting this if it's on the menu.
We also got the chicken meatballs. They were decent but I can't say much else about them.
We tried the french fries with aged cheddar fondue - and they too were very good.
Oh yea, their rolls were VERY good. They were small wheat rolls that seemed to have had the butter put in the center or it just tasted that way. They needed to additional butter (and I like butter).
For the main course I ordered the Pekin Duck Breast with roasted sweet potato, brussel sprouts & bacon. It was very delicious! The duck was nicely cooked with the skin on and some cranberry-orange sauce on top. The accompanying sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts and bacon were also very yummy. It was a very well put together dish that was very satisfying. It's a must try.
I also tried one of my dinner mate's polenta side dish. It was VERY good - very creamy and cheesy - I've never had polenta like that before. I would order that as a side dish alone.
Dessert was the Pie Jar - apple and pumpkin pie in a ball jar with whipped cream. It was decent. I'd try something else next time.
If you are anywhere near Findley, Ohio - you MUST go to Revolver. I can't wait to go back to try the Brunch! -

Revolver is culinary heaven!!! Of all the places all over the country I have eaten at; this is my new favorite!!!
The ambiance of the restaurant + the extremely well trained wait staff + the sinfully good food made the experience Perfect!
It was a welcoming feeling as we entered the door and every bite of food was delicious (from the bread to the soups, salads, entrées & desserts... even the after dinner coffee was delicious)!! And it just makes everything even better that all the food is locally sourced!!!!
I was absolutely blown away at how much I loved every aspect of this restaurant!
I highly recommend going, whether it's just for a night out or a special occasion! -

Findlay, OH
**LOCAL BUSINESS**
For my mother's birthday, we booked a reservation at Revolver, as it is the finest dining one can get without leaving town. I've always enjoyed the attitude Revolver brings to Findlay. It is a much needed alternative to the "small town experience" you get elsewhere. Albeit small, Findlay needs to hold onto it as best they can.
I think it important to note Mike Bulkowski was nominated for the People's Best New Chef award (Great Lakes Region) from Food & Wine magazine earlier in the year. This included contestants from Chicago and other much large cities. Yes, the kitchen is that skilled.
I always, always, always get the duck when I'm here. I can't think of any other place in Findlay to get duck and I'm out a lot. It was wonderful on the bed of roasted corn and avocado. In a very selfish "are you going to eat that" moment, I also scored a bowl of polenta. Oh... so... creamy and savory. Not only was it well prepared, it supported local farmers too. It may never seem like much when presented, but I always leave full. Outstanding work, everyone!Listed in: Oh, Findlay. Oh, brother.

really the only vanguard restaurant in NW Ohio. Definitely worth the trip. Can be hit and miss though.

Findlay, OH
For Findlay, must give Revolver 5 stars. With fresh local ingredients and an experienced chef, this innovative Midwestern American restaurant is in a league of its own in Findlay. Hip for a small town with a knowledgeable staff that knows their wine, Revolver feels very out of place but is more than welcome in an otherwise limited restaurant scene. Please DO NOT leave Findlay!

Special birthday dinner for my foodie daughter . . . she can pick ANY restaurant. She picks Revolver.
Amazing local sourced food.
Great staff.
Small, if not intimate in scale. But clean and bright.
But the creative cuisine is what you come for. Similar to something in Chicago or a Michael Symon type place in Cleveland . . . but in Findlay? Yep. And every bit as good. There is a great incentive to try strange and rare dishes here that you would not order/find at a normal place. Just do it. We have not found a "bad" dish yet. Each one has been sublime.
Make the drive from Toledo. You will be amazed, and have a new favorite place. -

Holland, OH
This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Being from Toledo, this is the closest thing that I can get my hands on to "bigger city" dining, meaning that the produce is kept seasonal/local and that the menu changes daily.
The food is beautiful and smart. The mise en bouche the first time I went to Revolver was a delightful "popcorn soup." At first I was hesitant, but after sipping the shot down, I realized that it was a great way to warm up my taste buds for the excellent meal to come.
The waitstaff was also extremely well-trained. They were able to give great advice regarding the menu and help pair wines with meals.
I would have to say that the biggest surprise of the whole meal was the price. I heard that the food was priced very reasonably, but I wasn't expecting it to be THAT reasonable. Having lived in Boston for the past few years, a meal of this caliber would be at least 2-3x pricier than what I paid for at Revolver.
Anyone who enjoys exciting and tasty meals should definitely make a trip to Revolver. -

Brooklyn, NY
Pretty much one of the best culinary experiences of my life to date. My dad grew up in Findlay and almost all of our family is still there, and we all couldn't believe that this restaurant is there.
I had (or stole from someone else's plate) the Revolver fries (i wish that fries tasted good when reheated because i would be trying to eat these every day of my life), pork belly w/orange and fennel (the absolute best thing of my entire meal), popcorn soup amuse bouche, heirloom beans with bacon and spring onions, and my entree was skirt steak with brussels sprouts and pancetta and creamy polenta. all of it was AMAZING.
the focus on local and seasonal ingredients is always great, and they also have an extensive wine list, as well as beer. the space is small, but has a great mid century modern atmosphere. plus, it used to be the old bus station. i didn't make it to dessert, but i'm sure if i had i wouldn't have been disappointed. -

We LOVE Revolver! It's probably the closest thing to a NYC restaurant that you'll encounter in Northwest Ohio. The space is small, but very trendy and energizing, the service is almost always stellar, and the food is amazing. The use of local ingredients and the innovativeness of Chef Michael come together to create a memorable experience. Though each course may not be a grand slam, the anticipation and experience of the idea behind the food is well worth the cost. Those expecting gigantic portions should eat a little something ahead of time, as you are not paying for a loosen your belt kind of meal but rather an experience where art meets food. This is a favorite of me and my husband's and we make it a point to make the 40 minute drive to this restaurant at least once a season.

Perrysburg, OH
We dined at Revolver last night, and my only regret is that we waited so long to go there. Beautifully prepared and presented food with layers of flavors (even the bread with sensations of yeast, sea salt, and creamy butter). Chef Bulkowski has that rare ability to create unique combinations of ingredients that make a single meal a memorable experience. My duck was wonderful, on a bed of grilled corn, pickled cucumber, and an avocado sauce. My husband's pork loin on a bed of fennel gratin was also excellent. We went in with a determination to stretch our taste buds to some foods we would not ordinarily order including the cucumber, fennel and in my case the beef tongue appetizer. All were delicious. Service was the very best we have had in northwest Ohio--our waitress actually moved to Findlay from Chicago hoping to work for Chef Bulkowski after reading the Wall Street Journal review of Revolver. She was was able to describe each menu item in detail, and had excellent wine expertise. There is also a menu of unique craft beers and a full bar. When we made our reservation, we were told that the only seating left was at "the counter." Do not let this discourage you--it is comfortable and fun to watch some of the kitchen/bar goings on. Our party of 4 was seated on the corner of the L-shaped counter, and could easily converse. The outdoor patio is very well done and especially nice after dark with music after 10 pm on Saturday nights. Although Revolver is certainly fine dining, the mood and dress is pretty casual--a polo shirt for men and pants or sundress for women are fine. Noise level is a bit high, but this is one of the few places where it didn't really bother us. We will be at Revolver again soon and very much look forward to it.

Los Angeles, CA
Great food in a town where you would not expect to find it. Is it amazing five stars by "big city" standards? No. But it could hold its own anywhere. (I'd rate it 4 stars in a big city) If you are in the area and want good high end food, it's your only option. So go for it.

My entire childhood was spent in Findlay and although the Fern Cafe, Wilson's, New China and Super Sub were my favorites the town was lacking a level of complexity in the cuisine.
I almost feel slighted that this place wasn't around while I was living there. I may have become a Chef??? -

Claremore, OK
What a nice change and step up from the the normal Outback / TGI Fridays type restaurants that I often eat at during my business trips. Unique combinations of flavor that is organic and most often local made this a great experience. I have noticed that they have great reviews in the Wall Street Journal and Bon Appetit magazine ... just to name a few. During future trips in the area I will be sure to visit again.

What a treat to find in a small town in Ohio! I travel quite frequently and go out to dinner often and I was very impressed with the eclectic menu and good wine choices. The retro decor was a pleasant bonus. If you find yourself in Findlay, make sure to stop in for dinner at the Revolver!

I was so pleased to hear that Findlay had a restaurant that celebrated local ingredients and farmers and was excited to check out Revolver on a recent trip back home. Everything was good, but perhaps overly rich and complicated. I appreciated that they asked ahead of time about dietary restrictions, and I really enjoyed the vegetarian entree the chef prepared for me (potato encrusted cabbage and mushrooms). My boyfriend ordered oxtail, he says the meat was well-prepared, but the dish was overwhelmed by the too-rich gnocchis. The service and atmosphere were fun, but all in all, over the top for Findlay.

Ladera Ranch, CA
We ate there while passing through Findlay on the Monday before Thanksgiving. What a find. The food was unique, thoughtfully prepared, and amazingly good. We live in Southern California and this place could stand up to the best we have out here. The prices are absurdly low compared to what I am used to paying and yet the food is as good as I have ever eaten. The next time I am in that part of Ohio you can bet I will make plans to eat here.

Archbold, OH
In my opinion, the best restaurant in northwest Ohio (Toledo, etc). This restaurant serves up the most exciting cuisine outside of major metropolitan areas in the midwest. The service is spot on and the flavors are mastefully combined. The actual physical space leaves a little to be desired but that can be forgiven in light of the culinary experience.
