I was highly disappointed in all aspects when coming here.
I guess I was expecting a LOT more hardware pieces than what they actually had...
And I guess I was expecting friendly, accomadating service for whatever reason...
Thank you Restoration Hardware for proving that making assumptions does make an ass out of you and me.
Bought curtains here 3 years ago and was given the wrong hooks. Called and called to try and straighten out the matter. "Product Specialists" from the toll-free line never returned a message. HQ's could not send-out the right hooks/hardware despite repeated attempts. Spoke to a store manager who seemed to have a low IQ; she assured me they stocked all curtain attachment hooks. They do not. Was nearly blinded when an employee tried to jerryrig some hooks by bending the wrong hooks w/ a pair of pliers. One hook got away from him leaving me bleeding just above the eye. What a bunch of goofballs. We are talking curtain hooks here folks not long division. Shopping elsewhere will also allow you to avoid their sky-high prices and dismissive condescending attitude that seems to permeate all locals.
My mission: to find bathroom curtain, towels, and accessories to match the yellowish gold walls in my bathroom (note to self: next time find the accessories before deciding to paint the walls yellow).
My mom and I looked everywhere:
Bed, Bath, and Beyond: big selection, but a bit cheap looking for my grown up condo
Bloomingdales: nice quality, but at those prices I won't be able to buy anything else for the condo after purchasing the shower curtain
Pottery Barn: selection seriously lacking
Restoration Hardware- score!! I found a beautiful shower curtain and towels that weren't only the right price, but matched my walls perfectly! And they even went perfectly with my tissue holder, soap dispenser, and garbage can that I used in the bathroom of my last condo. Oh yes, it was my lucky day! I also discovered fabulous pillows for my couch (after having no luck at the home stores mentioned above). The sales associate, Billy, went above and beyond to help me. From now on Restoration Hardware will be my first stop for all my home shopping needs....
My one star comes from having been a VERY temporary employee there.
The items ARE beautiful. The staff isn't.
I should have known better when I 1st walked into the place for a seasonal application. The staff seemed extremely tense. I went to a group interview and all five of us were hired on the spot (strange isn't it?)
Now I'm very aware that seasonal means what it says, seasonal, but I worked there for an entire FOUR DAYS!
The interviewer exaggerated saying that we could work anywhere from 20 to 40 hours for the christmas season, with the possibility of being hired permanently. I was looking for a real job and I needed the cash. But no one would even train me! They just put you out on the floor and expect you to perform properly!
On my 1st day the floor people looked at me as if I was from Mars and couldn't care less to know my name. I was suppose to gift wrap. When one worker was told to teach me, she was very reluctant to do so. One of tthe managers screamd at me and another worker for not clocking out at the very moment we were off. I can understand that you can't get overtime for even 3 minutes--but this lady was over the top!
Everyone in general always seemed very angry and the atmosphere was tension filled. A couple of managers just struck me as plain weird!
Being let go after four days??? I didn't even get a chance to do anything wrong!
I learned from both the newspaper and TV that the company was in financial trouble which explained the borderline hostility. Everyone at this place was jockeying for work hours thus extra pay, so I guess additional workers were not welcomed. Alot of people, including myself were working 11 hours a week--ridiculous even for a part time seasonal job!
The only person who stayed there out of the group interview I was in,was a guy who already had a full time job and was happy to work one day a week.

Why did I ever buy anything from here? Ok, what they have is nice but for the price it is not worth it. I would rather get something that looks similar at Bed Bath & Beyond or Target. The service isn't great but hey I haven't had good customer service when shopping in a long time.
You can guarantee that you will not see me going back into Restoration Hardware for anything again.
Although not the friendliest of staff, the items here are top-notch. Once you get into the classic items here at Restoration Hardware, you will never look back.
There is a strong selection of classic, elegant, and high quality bedding, bath, and window treatments. Even excellent (read: high priced!) furniture. If you're looking for wonderful towels for your bath, come here and you will be amazed! Softest towels ever.
Everything has a variety of colors, many of which are not seasonal, so you know you can come back and do replacements if you need to (or add on to your collection).
I did get some nicer window treatments on sale (about $30 for a curtain!) here during the summer sales.
BEWARE!
Products are gorgeous, and excellent quality. But the quality of the products is so greatly outdistanced by the incompetence and failures of the company and staff, that its not worth the effort. So far we have had one incorrect item shipped to us, been charged three times for one furniture order, and had a dresser altogether lost. Suckasses.
The IDEA of walking into this Restoration Hardware makes my blood pressure rise. The staff are completely apathetic (and defensive about it). For example, if they don't have something in stock, they offer absolutely no suggestions for an accomodation, and act peeved and try to wander off when you try to press for one. (I don't know, have one shipped to the store? sell the floor model? Offer to call to another location?)
I hate the service here so much that I won't shop here out of spite. Period. I would rather light my hair on fire than give these people my business. Ugh.
They have a fabulous selection of hinges, knobs & pulls! I refinished a piece of furniture and went straight to this place for the final touches. So, if you have a piece of furniture that you can't part with or simply need to spruce up the old to look a bit newer...go straight to R.H.
I have come in here a few times (in search for new hardware) & quickly looked through their other merchandise, but I have mainly been to this store with a one-track mind.
I love the products in Restoration Hardware. They are so classic and elegant. However, the service in this location is awful. The staff is not very knowledgable, and they could not really answer any of my questions. I took home a shelving unit to install myself, and was very frustrated with the service staff. The Old Orchard location was a much better experience.
I love-hate this place. I think the quality for the $$ is good, but this has been my worst retail experience ever and I will not be buying more, even though there's more stuff I want and like, no, i won't, i can't.....i have principles.
So, I think the technology this store has is from 1986 or whenever Apple II Es were introduced. I ordered a bed in the store and the clerk had to hand-write a form and fax it to the catalog division. I'm surprised my copy of the receipt wasn't on ditto paper. Even though the shipping address was correct on the paper she faxed, I got email confirms it was going to my old address (which was listed as my billing address) and called cust. service 3 times to change and when the shipping co called to set up the delivery they of course had the wrong address.
Now, for my on-line orders 1. Ordered items during bath sale but they were back ordered. When shipped, they charged my cc the non-sale price despite what my email confirmation says. Been waiting 4 weeks for refund. 2. shipped items back to warehouse via ups and after 2.5 weeks don't have my refund. 3. Since it takes so long for the central warehouse to refund money I thought I'd take a catalog order back to the store for a refund....and nope, they just ship it back to them and are unable to process the credit in store. 4. Received damaged shade and when i called cust service they said someone would call me in 1-3 business days. When I called back on business day 4, I was told it was 24-72 business hours....seriously, what company operates like that, business hours?!
Anyway, I can go on and on about the $1200 they owe me and the 6 hours I have spent on the phone with customer service but in a nutshell I advise not buying anything here unless it's in stock and in the store. Oh, and customer service kept telling me they sent me a gift certificate for my trouble...it must have gotten lost in the mail because I never got it.
Hardware? Where? Gayly displayed towels and bedclothes does not constitute hardware. You Chicago people are funny!
