10 reviews for Restaurant Serenade
The Serenade experience is well worth the price. The food is delicious, the staff is pleasant and knowledgable, and if you happen to be there after the last meal is served, you may well get a personal visit from the chef, James Laird. Both of the times I have been to Serenade, I have enjoyed each of the courses from appetizer straight through to dessert. The creamless soups are a must - I have had pumpkin and asparagus so far and was blown away by both.
The menu at Serenade is seasonal, but I have to share my last experience with dessert. The strawberry-rhubarb cobbler was out of this world, and the vanilla flavor in the accompanying homemade ice cream was delectable.
Serenade offers a taste of the good life and is a great place to celebrate any special event.
I have dined at Serenade many times, and once I completed culinary school, I completed my internship there. I was stunned by the meticulous preparation of dishes in this kitchen. Chef Laird breaks down huge fish to create the well cut filets and steaks served in the dining room. All vegetables are fresh and the knife skills of the staff are amazing. My friends did not believe that all desserts and breads are created on site, but that is another example of the commitment this Chef has to quality.
Every person on the line has been trained by him to deliver his cuisine. After my time in another Manhattan kitchen and after hearing my friends' experiences in Manhattan's best known spots, I feel very comfortable with this rating after seeing the inner workings of this kitchen.
Serenade is one of our favorite restaurants for their wine selection and careful use of local ingredients. We are recognized and taken care of with a smile.
Serenade is a fantastic restaurant if you are looking for sophisticated cuisine and wine.
The entire experience is top notch and I highly recommend the tasting menu, six courses paired with relevant wine choices. The tasting menu changes often and never let's me down. I find the price to be quite a value for what you get, especially when compared to NYC restaurants.
This is defintely a special ocassion place but somehow I land up here more often than not.
This has to be the worst restaurant I have ever been too. Before I get into the main reason why I cannot stand this place, I will talk about the essentials.
The food is somewhat decent, but DEFINITELY not worth the price. The wine selection is great, but they have a very poor knowledge of wines. The staff is inattentive, and when they do give you the time of day they are snotty and inappropriately rude. The food took forever to arrive and when it did it wasn't even piping hot.
Now the main reason. Executive Chef James Laird is a racist jerk. Being of the African American decent, it is very rare for me to feel oppressed in such a neighborhood as Chatham. James went table to table treating everyone nicely and when he came out ours he backed away and treated us as if we were jailbirds. He exuded a sense of fear alongside an extremely arrogant, pompous attitude. His condescending aura turned us off to the food, the restaurant and especially Chef James.
Do NOT go to this establishement
Went there for a birthday party last week - Apr 9. .just the 6 adults. I thought it was okay but not outstanding and not to the level of Manhattan type classy French restaurants. I did enjoy my endive salad which came out to be a surprisingly huge portion. The lamb chops wasn't anything special and I could have done a rack of lamb at home with my mint jelly. I did like my dessert - Marjorlaine... some kind of hazelnut crepe cookies cake with vanilla ice cream. Too bad they don't have a souffle to the dessert menu or a clafoutis...something French I would expect. Service is good and the ambience is of a transitional decor house. Thought the stimulus prix fixe menu was interesting at $35...seems a bargain for French prix fixes.
This restaurant is really lovely, the food is very good and the service is great. Went this weekend for a special occasion and had really great service. Pork chop was one of the largest we've ever seen in a restaurant. Only complaint might be that the sommelier really pushes the pricier wines, but the list is good and the choice is still yours.
Also learned that you can do a 3 course meal with an app, a salad and main instead of a dessert, which was great for our group since we tend to not be huge dessert people.
Tested it out for my birthday and it wasn't that great. Kind of snooty staff and the food wasn't worth what we paid for it. We definitely won't be returning.
C'mon Ginny M. You know you're lying; because this place is unmistakably phenomenal. The food is well worth the price and the service is incredible. Quite frankly, this place is so good that it's almost a bargain (emphasis on almost). I love this restaurant and have spent many special occasions inside of it's ambient self. Good Lord, I love Serenade! Especially delicious is the foie gras.
$$$ Located in a converted house in a residential part of town, this bustling restaurant is known for its wine list and the creative cooking of the chef. Specializes in contemporary French cuisine. http://www.restaurants.../
