Definitely nice for the price! The rooms were clean and spacious, complete with kitchenettes and everything! The free breakfasts were satisfying with eggs, sausages, potatoes, croissants, yogurt, oatmeal, muffins, donuts, bagels, tortillas and salsa, make your own waffles, etc. Quite a spread for a complimentary morning start!
The staff were incredibly nice!!! They said hello to you each and every time you walked through the door. Once I had my hands full, and the guy at the front desk literally ran to open the door for me!!!
There's a little mini-"market" inside too. It's rather expensive, but if you need a late night snack, ice cream, or drink, it's worth it.
The pool area was nice and private. I love an indoor, heated pool, and they have music playing. I was the only one swimming for hours, and management told me I could adjust the music and volume, etc., since I was on my own. So nice!! :D
I would totally stay here again if I'm in the area.
I didn't have a very positive experience at this Resident Inn located in Salinas, CA.
My friends and I were going to spend the night here. We had called the hotel three times that day and everything appeared fine. By the time we completed our day and wanted to check in (around midnight), we were told that our reservation was canceled and that the hotel could not accommodate us in anyway because they were full. This concerned us a lot because we were told that nearby hotels within the same chain were full.
Customer Service: The customer service was very poor here. When we tried to check in and were told that we did not have a reservation, the person at the counter was not helpful at all. It was a bit unfair because they did very little to give us quality customer service. I was a bit disappointed knowing that we did not have a place to stay (to no fault of our own) and we were not helped in terms of finding another place. The guy at the counter did not even help us with a few contact numbers for other hotel chains. After I had asked to use the Internet to look up some contact information for other hotels, he had advised me to go to the free computer at the lobby that is hooked to the Internet. After trying to log on, I realized that the hotel was positioned in a horrible area and their wifi signal was extremely poor to the extent that I could not visit any site beyond google.
We talked to the manager the following morning and he did very little to address the situation. While he explained his side of the story, it was unbelievable that no one "remembers" our party calling throughout the day (3 times as stated before). Also, the guy that was working the front desk appeared very concerned, but was not part of our complaint and discussion with the manager. After some discussion, the manager had offered to give us a complementary night for a future visit, but I don't believe any of us will be returning to this Marriott given the lack of accommodation, sound customer service, and general disregard for guests. Furthermore, when I had asked for the names of who was working on site that day (that could have picked up the phone), the manager refused to let me know the names. I don't see why this is an issue as I just wanted to clarify the situation and understand it better.
Highly disappointed and I know I won't be staying at this location ever again. I rather be in a hassle free weekend or vacation trip to Monterey area.
I stayed at this hotel for a wedding that took place in Monterey. A bit far from Monterey (about 30 minutes), which was the bad part. There's really nothing around this hotel except for Walmart. For the price I paid it's not bad. The hotel was spacious and comfortable. Unless you love Salinas, the location is not the most ideal place to be. What can I say, you get what you pay for.
Me and my bf went down to Salinas for 4 purposes:
1) Vacation close by
2) Spend a day in Monterey; save money by driving there and staying here (Hotels in Monterey are pretty hefty! even if they're a sucky inn!)
3) Breaking in my bf's new car
4) Check out the FIRST Annual Asian Fair*
The Good: Service was ok, ample private parking, room was nice (we had a one-bedroom king room; living room area, full kitchen with a small table with two chairs); Close to a shopping center.
The Bad: Internet was free but it sucked! I think they were having problems with their server so it might've not been their fault (I understand, I work in hospitality industry); But they really need to upgrade their breakfast! One of the reason why we (or rather I) picked this place because it says they have hot breakfast and we were dissapointed! We decided to go out and look for McDonald's.
*The Ugly: Not the hotel but the fair we went to! I've never been to a fair where they send you to different streets and go to specific establishments to check out the "entertainment" or what they have. I guess we learned our lesson, I should've paid more attention to: F-I--R-S-T fair. Goosh!
