Stayed here for one day while was in LA for a quick trip. Got into LA at 8 ish and called the hotel and requested early check in at 11 am instead of the usual 3 pm. They had no problem accommodating me.

Room is a little old, furniture and appliances are a little outdated. Bed was okay, nothing like that at a regular Marriott. Room was clean though, did not notice any stains or unkempt areas, just a little old.

Breakfast was actually pretty good, far exceeded my expectations. Waffles, eggs, fresh juice, cereal, oatmeal, cannot complain too much. There were two double beds and a pull out sofa, perfect for 3 people. Sofa bed was not comfortable at all though.

They also accommodated my  2 pm checkout the next day. People at the counter were really helpful. Manhattan beach is only 10 mins away and there is a huge mall next door. They do have a 32 inch LCD TV, nice surprise considering how old everything is.

Only reason I stayed here was that I had 12,000 points accrued from staying at the Caribe Royale in Orlando from company travel and this was the nicest I could get. All the nicer Marriots run 20,000 points or more in LA. However, this was not bad considering that the location was great and very central, TV was nice, and the really early check in accommodation.

Would recommend if you are using points and just there for a quick trip or are on a tight budget or a student. Great for spring break since it's so close to Manhattan beach. However, not great for a vacation or an entire weekend, better off staying at a nicer place.

I agree with other reviewrs that some serious remodeling is in order, and new furniture. I stayed there for 2 months on corporate relocation. That breakfast got old very fast. The front desk people were very friendly. The cleaning staff didn't take directions very well.

But the bottom line is... my cat got fleas there.

Travelling with 5 kids requires either a much larger than average travel allowance or creative travel accounting.   I chose the latter.

One of the ways to stretch a buck  for a large family is to stay at a 2 bedroom Residence Inn.

PROS:
1.  Across the street from one of the world's largest shopping mall. (Some may argue that is a CON).
2.  Interesting hot breakfast:   Not only is there the standard hot breakfast items of scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, etc. but there is a Japanese style breakfast with steamed rice, rice seasonings and seaweed paper.

CONS:
1.   Rooms showing lots of wear.   You can see it around the doors and walls.
2.   Applicances in the room are in need of replacement.   My fridge had problems keeping the food cold.
3.  Beds are awful compared to other Residence Inns.   Mattresses are old and saggy.

OVERALL:  2 stars.  This hotel is in need of a major remodeling.

Nice place to stay, but I was helping myself to the complimentary breakfast this morning and couldn't find the ketchup.

I went thru the rest of the short line to get my food, then found a worker I could ask about the ketchup.  She vaguely pointed at the table and said in a low voice, "Over there."  I quickly scanned thru the line and saw that she had just replenished the ketchup packets.  Would have been nice if she'd walked the few feet to show me exactly where she'd put them.

Then I saw the same worker come out with a fresh tray of pancakes and load them onto the serving table WITH HER BARE HANDS.  NO plastic gloves, NO tongs.

I immediately walked over to the front desk and told the lady what I just saw.  She said she'd take care of it and picked up the phone.  A few minutes later, I saw the worker come out with more food wearing plastic gloves this time.

Needless to say I didn't eat the pancake I had just gotten.
