Traveling for business usually sucks.  Yeah, it's often a free trip someplace cool, but more often it's a very short trip to someplace where you don't get to do anything fun and there isn't much fun stuff to do in the first place. You need good lodging to stay sane (and some kind of premier frequent flyer card, too).

Residence Inns never disappoint. I started using them for weekend ski trips in places like Burlington and Salt Lake City, since they'd have cheaper weekend rates for the non-business crowd that still included the kitchens, seating areas, large rooms, pools, hot tubs, free breakfast, etc. Now that I travel more for work, they offer nice corporate rates and the same amenities.

Santa Fe isn't one of the unpleasant places (although I like it better in the winter than in the summer), and it was worth spending a second night to enjoy the sights. So I did. This hotel gets bonus points for a decent location (only 1.5 miles off the Plaza, with closer dumps going for 1.5X the price), large rooms (fireplace! couch!), fully functional kitchens, wired and wireless internet, on-site coin laundry, and free internet/printer use for your boarding passes. It's nice to be able to feel like your home base is a home, and this place comes close.  It's not a B&B with gourmet breakfast and complimentary champagne, but for the price, you can't beat it.

I was in Santa Fe on business and stayed here.  I was consulting for the Taxation and Revenue Department and was able to get the government rate which was really very good.

All of the rooms have a kitchen which is a nice bonus when you're on business, it means you can hit the grocery store and don't have to eat junk or fast food all the time.  I didn't use any of the facilities, but the pool and tennis courts looked nice anyways :)

The breakfast was good, pretty standard really.  What was nice was that at 5:00PM they also offered chips and salsa and soft drinks in the same area.  One day they even had burgers and franks.  They weren't very good, but definitely an A+ for effort!  And you can't beat free internet access.

My only complaint is that the room kind of smelled a little funky, not quite mildewy but sort of.  But you get over that quick.
