3 reviews for Residence Inn by Marriott-San Diego Downtown
My family and I have been residents of the Residence inn for a little more than a week now, due to a flood repair in our nearby loft. While it truly sucks to be displaced, the good folks here truly do an admirable job trying to make you feel at home.
The rooms are clean and comfy. Our two-bedroom suite has provided a surprisingly roomy home-away-from-home for my wife and I, our 3 year old daughter, and our dog. Small kitchen, dishwasher, fridge, stove, etc.
While it's nothing to write home about, they do serve a breakfast buffet each morning, and the staff that staff it are very friendly and attentive. They even host a happy hour each weeknight, with free wine, draft beer, cheese and crackers.
Not worth flooding your place to experience, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to visitors.
Heres the thing... I live in hotels for work so I have stayed in pretty much every hotel chain and then some. The Residence in is usually a place I try and stay because of everything thing they offer but usually the price is out of my budget. I was able to stay at this one and excited about it because of its location. They did get me checked in early which was nice. They do offer free internet which is great but when its slower then dial up I would rather pay for it!
I was looking forward to the drinks and food they have out for happy hour from 530-730. My co-worker and I came down around 6pm and no food was out only some small cups for soda. Ok maybe they were getting a pretty late start so we came back at about 7 thinking it would be hopping... well we must have missed the memo that say they only bring out food for about 30 minutes because when we came back there was pretty much just scraps left and no sign of bring more out. Ok so happy hour turned into a walk next door to jack and the box!
Ok, now its time for breakfast from 630-930... I showed up at 9am and they were packing it up. Not even bread left for toast. My coworker said he went down at 830 and it was a mad house but the food was no better then what we get at a smaller hotel chain.
Needless to say I have been to better Residence Inn's. I Will probably never book at this one again unless the rates were a lot less. I think they got to caught up in having a good location (if you can sleep through the train horns and airplanes) and lost track of the little things that make a hotel good!
i give this place an extra star for being pet friendly.
we had no problem staying there with our dog, they even allowed us to bring her to the pool area. although it wasn't so much fun for her sitting in the sun watching me "drowning". yeah, she was horrified when we went in to the water... haha. :-)
anyway, this place is clean enough, pretty small, so the front desk is never crowded. i mean, the entire building was never crowded even when there's no vacancy. nothing annoying... well, we were scared when we saw the train passing by loudly right behind the hotel, but their windows must be very well soundproof, it never bothered us.
location was pretty good since it was pretty quiet side nearby downtown, and mission hills. easy access to highway as well.
pretty satisfied overall, maybe because we used marriot points? well. still, would recommend if you're planning to bring a pet (or two) and wouldn't care about view or beach access. oh. there's $75 cleaning fee for a pet and $13/day parking. free wired internet access in the rooms, breakfast (very simple) included.
