New and clean. Food included (breakfast and dinner) and free beer...always worth a star. Price was good as well

I come to Raleigh semi-regularly as we have a Engineering/Development center here, on NC State campus.
Unfortunately we have group rates at the Marriott properties at Crabtree Valley area, so usually where I end up.
I normally shun Residence Inns...I am not a fan of their normal townhouse style, somewhat cheesy places, and poor quality bedding etc when only staying a night or two.
Raleigh was nearly booked this week for some reason, so travel had to put me here.
I was pleasantly surprised. Its definitely better than the icky Fairfield next door, and on par with their Courtyard. Rooms (at least these floors) are more normal hotel room like. With a better couch, small kitchen with appliances and small kitchen, including granite counters (!). Flat screen TV, and a pretty decent bed. I can't complain at all.
The foyer and dining areas have been renovated and are a plus. Their free breakfast is pretty decent, and more than the continental crap (sorry this lad needs protein). At night they serve free beer and wine and usually some pasta for the cheapolas. You can spend your daily allotment for food expenses on a bar tab somewhere if you wanted. :)
I also like they have a fridge with some decent micro brews, beverages, and you can grab a few, charge them to room, and bring them up.
Still not sold on Residences overall but this one is reasonable, comfortable, convenient location, and zomg you can grab a nightcap until 10pm, even in the bible belt! :p -

This was a non-revenue trip, so I stayed here to save money. I had a clean, quiet, comfortable room, but the bed was so soft I needed a chiropractor when I got home.
Marriott: It's time you followed Hilton an put descent bedding in every room. Even the lowly Hampton Inn has a great bed.
I will not be back to a Marriott property unless it's the last resort.
The so-called 'high-speed' internet is a dribble-rate DSL. I ran the speed test at Speakeasy and it was an underwhelming ~300kb/s download. I got better speed from my Verizon broadband card. -

I stayed here for 5 nights while waiting for my apartment to travel across the country in a moving truck. The nightly rate was very reasonable, and included a hot breakfast and wired internet. Right off the bat I was a bit disappointed at how early the breakfast buffet closes in the morning (I'm usually not awake until closing time), and by the lack of wireless internet in the rooms. I had to use the wireless network from the hotel next door, which had barely usable service in my room.
The room was very clean, although had a slightly stale smell of cleaning products. I found the bed to be comfortable, and the windows and screens were all in great shape.
The front desk staff was friendly, remembered us throughout the week, and helped us quickly with a few requests. They also have a snack shop at the front desk which is very convenient, and fairly priced. Housekeeping did a great job, and didn't bug us when we left the DND sign on the door for a few days since we had left our stuff all over the room.
Location wise, this hotel is in a great spot. It's just across the street from Crabtree Valley Mall, which includes PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, and a number of other quite decent restaurants.
In summary, I'd say the room was well worth the price paid. If you have $50/night more to spend, check out the Renaissance North Hills just a few miles away. It is MUCH more upscale, doesn't smell of any cleaning products, and looks/feels more like a luxury hotel. It is also located in a great shopping and dining area.
