6 reviews for Reservoir
I'd been here numerous times while it was Go! Rehearsal Studios, but only once or twice since it made the change over to become the Reservoir.
While I do miss Go! (I saw some great bands there) the Reservoir is a more than suitable replacement. It's a great dive bar, and they have some funny little gimmicks to get people in. I went to see some friends of mine play with their bands, and when we entered they had just finished showing some ultra cheesy western movie. There was no cover charge (they claim to charge a one-time membership fee, but there was no one working the door when I got there) and drinks were fairly cheap. PBR was $1.50, and Jack & Cokes were running me $4.50 (although they might've been a bit less strong then I would've liked).
For such a small venue, the sound for the bands was excellent, and they passed around a bucket to take up a collection to give the bands some money. The overall atmosphere is a little bit funky with some humorous signs and graffiti, as well as a montage of pictures of William Shatner along the back wall. There were only a couple tables, but myself and my group of friends managed to score a nice collection of blue upholstered chairs that provided us easy access to both the bar and the bathrooms, as well as a good view of the stage area.
This is definitely my kind of place, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area who's looking for a quick drink in a place with a nice underground/alternative type atmosphere.
I joined Reservoir (membership bar) right after it opened, and have always been satisfied when I stop by for a drink. The bartenders are friendly and prompt, and it is a truly unique atmosphere in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. It's a great place to see bands (bring earplugs, however), have a PBR tallboy, and catch a Tar Heel basketball game (projected on a huge screen).
Moving the pool table upstairs was a great decision, freeing up the spot under the loft for bands. The former location of the Go! music venue, a surprising number of people can fit in here. FYI, it can get as smoky as Hell and OCSC.
Cheap and uneventful. It can't live up to the legacy of Go! Studios but it's a good place to go if you want cheap drinks in a very laid back environment.
been to a few shows there. really fun. also, free pool upstairs, but only one table
AWESOME. It feels like I stepped back in time and walked back into my husband's bachelor pad when he lived with a band outside DC over ten years ago. It's dark and dingy and fun and strange and nobody gives a damn (i.e., don't even bother trying to be cool or trendy and HEAVEN HELP YOU IF YOU'RE A FRAT BOY).
Local metal bar. Cheap booze, bands play every now and then almost always for free. A safe haven from the damn fratty college kids.
