1095 Canyon BlvdThis is a location in flux, and I really hope the Republic of Boulder survives because it's a really cool bar. It was the Oasis brewpub for the longest time, and I actually avoided it most nights because it was always overcrowded. It seemed to be a great location, just two blocks off Pearl Street but highly visible and convenient to get to. It even had something rare among downtown bars--a parking lot (for better or worse).
Then, one day the Oasis shut down. Why? I don't know. But I do know that it was replaced by the Republic of Boulder, which is a really, really cool bar, even if it doesn't draw as big as the old Oasis.
Also, somewhere along the line the primo location became a liability. Thankfully the Republic has survived, even through some crazy construction that has shut down the adjacent side street. Gone are the days of not being able to find breathing space, and sadly you get the feeling there should be tumbleweeds blowing through some nights. But don't be dissuaded. This is a great bar to check out, even if just to grab a bite and a beer by yourself while catching the game.
If you go to the Republic, and you're not lactose intolerant, try the Milk Stout. Creamy and delicious. They used to have a cool trivia night here, and they still regularly have live music. Not sure if they still do the hookahs. If so, I can't recommend this highly enough--and I'm a lifelong non-smoker.
Just don't put any non-tobacco herbs in the hookah, or they'll take your hookah away. Don't ask me how I know.

Apparently there is a joke among the more conservative Coloradians who inhabit the dingier parts of Colorado (such as Greeley, cough cough) that Boulder is so out there (where? well, on the other end of the political spectrum, of course. They believe in equal rights for homosexuals and trails, open-spaces, and public transit in Boulder? Oh my gawd!!) that Boulder isn't part of Colorado at all, but instead is its own Republic.
This is only my guess, but that I am assuming that the Republic of Boulder is proudly pushing forward this image, which other people have used so disdainfully.
In any case, as a bar the Republic is pretty cool. They have free pool tables, cool huge swinging fans above the extended bar, lots of seating, both inside and outside, decent drink deals and hookahs for rent (if that's your thing).
I recommend it.
This is a nice dive bar, just a block from Pearl Street Mall. They have live shows on the stage, great service, and an eclectic interior. What's not to like?
