The Reptile Expo is in the Sacramento Convention Center every year. It's usually held in August or September.
It's going on this weekend, and there is a coupon online that you can download to get a $1 discount on the entry.
It's pretty great this year.
I go because I own two large White's tree frogs, and I like to see what kind of set ups the other herp lovers have for frogs. There were a lot of poison dart frogs, but not too many White's although there was one Frogs Only guy who had a couple. He also had a giant white lipped tree frog that dwarfed my large female Indonesian White's. I have one Australian White's (male) named Sparky, he's 4 years old now. I have an Indonesian White's (female) named Beep. I bought them both at the expo. Beep was insanely sick. She was probably wild caught. Sparky is the most resilient frog ever, he was purchased from the expo from a company called Reptile Depot. I highly recommend them. They also offer a new thing this year for small aquatics: http://www.reptiledepo... very cool stuff. It inserts into your terrarium, sucks the water through the foam and filters it, and then pumps it back through and down as rivulets where the water fills up the reservoirs at the bottom again. You can plan moss and small plants in the foam, and it's painted and hand carved to simulate a rock wall. Seriously cool. If you go and get a turtle or some dart frogs, this is definitely the stuff you need to keep them happy.
Anyway, the whole expo is good. The first one I went to in 2002 was excellent, and it's just gotten better every year. It's nice to see so many families out looking at the cage set ups and really THINKING about how to care for these animals, instead of just picking one up at Petsmart and not having a clue/good advice from experts.
It's also an excellent place to get good advice.
Lots of corn snakes, very cute, and loads of bearded dragons and leopard geckoes. Basically, very easy-to-care-for critters for the most part. You would have to be a complete idiot to fail with cornsnakes or dragons. There are more exotic/harder to care for chameleons and turtles as well. Neat place to get close to animals you've probably only seen on Animal Planet.
One minus star because it's cash only to get in.
Yay expo!
