BBQ time what with Labor Day coming up and I drove by Reos, again, on my way to Hillsboro...the smells are yummy coming from that 'quaint' shack.  I was hungry and went in for a bite----wish I'd run into a chum with a bottle of rum cause I wound up WAITING all night!
Rios is no place to go for ambiance--a fern bar it ain't.  It does compare to side of the road BBQ places I have eaten at in the south however...pretty basic seating and minimal decor.
Service is quite uninterested  in the customer and not tip worthy-it's a McD's type of 'place your order at the front desk' type of joint.
The food is...AVERAGE...and a huge disappointment after the hype I heard on the radio and in travel books.
I'm a local-I should know this but whenever I give in to the Reo BBQ fix, I come away bummed out.
First off-as many say here-this isn't a place to do impulse dining if you're hungry right now....the wait is forever.
And forever.
And forever.
Call ahead and place your order!
I had BBQ ribs and ordered BBQ chicken to have at home.  The cornbread side was cold and stale and small.  The beans - well I can do better and I'm an Oregonian for petes sake!
I found the ribs to be tough and over sauced and the serving was skimpy for the price.
The BBQ chicken, however, was great.  I had it cold for lunch the next day and made the balance into chicken salad - just the right amount of spice to ad zing to a bland meat and not too much to overwhelm ones taste buds.
Reo is all there is on the west side for RRQ now that Tony Romas is gone---wish they would do a bit better for us here.

Lets see, what can I say about this place other than don't bother trying it.

Ambiance: Well, if you like a cheap interior with liberal doses of Snoop Dog posters this is the place for you.  It doesn't have to be table linen and wine glasses, this is barbecue after all, but this place most certainly does not impress with decor.

Service: I have been there twice (I know, should have learned the first time).  Both times I was made to feel like it was a burden for them to take my money for the food.  They were also very, very slow to get the food out.

Food:  I have had BBQ a lot of places, and have even competed in BBQ competitions.  The food here, while not bottom of the barrel, was not worth the money in my opinion.  This is even true factoring in this is Oregon, where there are not a plethora of good BBQ places.  It is not horrible if you are really hungry, but why bother when you can make something better yourself, or drive the extra distance to a couple of Portland's decent BBQ places.  By the time you factor in how long you will most likely be waiting at Reo's it could even be a wash time wise.

I will not be coming back.

Once I heard this was Snoop Dogg's uncle's rib joint, I had to try it. This place is kind of hidden, so stay alert when you try finding this place. It is kind of a strange layout. There is a red building where you order and eat, and the food is cooked outside and in the trailer.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is all the pictures of random people and even celebrities that is taped on the wall. The BBQ food is pretty good, but the wait does take awhile. I love the mac and cheese they serve here but the collared greens here wasn't a big hit for me. I like to eat my food with hot sauce so i bought the small cup of hot sauce that they offer. MAN...that stuff is hot. Now i know why they sell it in such a small cup. I tried a little bit, and I couldn't eat any more of it. That stuff is lethal!

It's a total dive, and if you eat inside it doesn't look and probably isn't the cleanest..but damn, take the food togo and savor these babies at home!  The standout is the beef brisket.  i don't even like brisket and this is the most tender moist and flavorful I've ever had.  Corn bread is more cake/sweet like which I prefer.  The pork butt is good but very greasy.  Baby backs are good.  The sauce is excellent.   I wouldn't eat inside again, but dang it, I'm ordering a bucketload of brisket and takin it home!

This place to me felt really gloom and dead. you go in and it's empty, the one person behind the counter has this look like she doesn't want to be here. i see one guy sitting waiting for his takeout order i would assume. We placed our order, sat down and hung out. and 10+ mins later they brought out the take out order for the guy to go home.... what i'm getting at is dam this place is slow!
the food... i had the fried catfish. Definately not the best but far from the worst. I didn't have much of an appetite and i'm afraid to come here hungry due to the wait. But we all need our ribs so i'll wait for a better day for me to revist this place.

So, we got food from here last night.  We got the "5 Meat Sampler" (pork rib, beef rib, chicken, pork slice, beef brisket) and it was okay.  The menu online says you get 3 sides w/the meal, but the new menu in the restaurant says just 2 sides, so we got cornbread and mac&cheese.  The cornbread was very small (2"x3" if that).  Also, they didn't have hush puppies, so that was also very disappointing.  Actually, I'm downgrading from 3 stars to 2 stars.

I like this place, mainly b/c we've watched it grow from a guy w/a smoker and a stack of wood on the side of the road to a guy w/a smoker, a stack of wood, a trailer and picnic tables to it's current incarnation of smoker, wood and old house that used to be a toy shop turned restaurant.  Talk about successful local business.

But, this past experience was so disappointing that I'd have to recommend against it, unless you're really hard up for barbecued meat.  If you can wait for the weekend, check out the Beaverton Farmer's Market.  There's a stand there w/a huge smoker and really excellent brisket and/or ribs (sorry, I don't remember the name... haven't been there yet this spring).

I'm rating this place as a 3 because it's not that great, but it's not that bad.  Other reviewers are right though, service does seem to take a LONG time.  Cornbread is definitely not the greatest.  Really kind of a hole-in-the-wall but the food is pretty good.

This was supposed to be one of the best rib places around. When I went there was maybe a couple others there.  It took awhile for the food to come. The ribs were tough, maybe leftovers from lunch?  Sauce was a bit heavy for me   I won't be headed back any time soon

I've heard a lot about this place and heard it was the place to go for rockin' ribs.  Sadly they turned out to be closer to rock hard than rockin'.  maybe it was because it was the end of the night, but the meat on my beef ribs was tough and virtually non existent.  Granted the sauce was great, but my mom makes better ribs with one hand tied behind her back.  I did like their assortment of side dishes.

The decor was a little scant, and the one big screen TV that was on was blaring a corny movie on the Disney channel.  Another couple really seemed to be enjoying the flick, and you're not allowed to change the channel anyway....so yeah.

And the highlight of the whole night was playing a couple rounds of Galaga.

I was in Oregon for a business trip.  One of the many places we ate at was Reo's Ribs.

When you walk into Reo's Ribs you are greeted with photos and printed copies of rap and soul singers. But if you venture to step into the right side and place an order, you will not be disappointed.

The rib joint is supposedly founded by a relative of Snoop Dogg, but I don't have any confirmation on this fact. I ordered the rib sampler both times I ate there. Both the pork and the beef ribs are very good. The hush puppies are a little on the over-cooked side, but the cornbread is tastey.

Be warned: you should place your order by phone if possible. It doesn't look like they place anything on the outdoor grill until it is ordered. This can take your order up to 20+ minutes to be ready.

The wait is always too long. The ribs are good and tender, the sauce sweet, but I always come away with this feeling that the place is unsanitary. My tummy hurt the last couple of times several hours after eating, but perhaps that's because the food is so heavy? I looked it up at the state dept of health and agriculture and their score was low on the last couple of health dept. inspections, so much that I am not going back again. The only side I liked was the coleslaw. It seems to have a bare hint of sweetness, like pineapple or something. The prices seems awfully high for ribs too. So I say, if you go, buyer beware of these potential issues.

"That Funke is some kind of something. Boy, this Funke is all anybody's ever talking about. So sick and tired of hearing about how brilliant that Funke is. Overrated."

That's my take on Reo's Ribs, the famous barbecue place owned by Snoop Dogg's uncle in Beaverton.  I've heard from many people that it's fantastic, and then from a smaller segment of people that it's overrated.  I'm in the latter camp.

It's not that it's bad.  The sauce is sweet, mild and tasty.  Molasses-based, I assume, like most sweet and mild barbecue sauces are.  The portions are a good size (although I paid a bit too, so I was expecting a lot of food).  I got the pork spare ribs plate which included sides of mac and cheese, a surprisingly good coleslaw and cornbread.  Service was pretty quick and friendly.

But as far as good barbecue goes, I've had better just about anywhere I've been.  Tony Roma's is better, the defunct TJ's Barbecue that was in Bethany was better, and I won't compare it to the places in the south I've been because that's just not fair.

Pros: One of the few barbecue options in the western burbs.  Friendly service.
Cons: Mediocre food.  TV there was playing Quints on the Disney Channel.

Bottom Line: If you need barbecue, and don't want to travel, this is a decent option.  Don't believe the hype though.

It's been said that good things come to those who wait, so amidst today's fast food meal-on-the-go lifestyle, I find the sometime 20 minute anticipation at Reo's well worth the payoff.

Situated on the West end of Beaverton, Reo uses the combination of his perfect sauce and expert technique to serve up some of the best ribs this side of Chicago.  Unlike almost every other "barbecue" place in town, they utilize meatier spare ribs in lieu of the wimpier baby back kind.  This lends to a rib that may require a bit more work to get off the bone, but absolutely melts in your mouth.

The atmosphere is very open, with a variety of different table sizes and heights.  During the Sunday all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet, I like the taller tables that allow for greater ease when going back for fifths.  And don't even get me started on the sides.  Too late.  After your first taste, the mere mention of their collard & mustard greens (simmered with ham hocks), red beans and rice, fried okra, butter-sopped yams, or mac & cheese will get you salivating.  I had to swallow five times just writing that sentence.  Round out your meal with Reo's amazing cornbread, wash it all down with some sweet tea, and not only will you go home beyond full, you'll never again make it through a Tony Roma's commercial with a straight face.

Oh, and Reo is in fact the cousin of Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., aka Snoop Dogg.  Fo'sheezy.

Food - 5/5
Atmosphere - 5/5
Tripworthy - 5/5
Average meal - $12

Good ribs but damn the wait really kills you.  I went in on a Sunday night when there was only a few people waiting.  I ordered and they told me there was going to a 45 minute wait.  They told me that they would call my cell phone when my order was ready...An hour later still no call.  I header down there and waited another 20 minutes.  Come on!  These clowns need to get their act together.  I have been to a butt  load of BBQ places and the wait is never over 10 minutes,  Maybe they should work on a better system..ah?

The wife and I have been driving by this place for years, smelling the wonderful smells from the smoker out front. We finally decided to try it, and we were definitely disappointed. The service was very ... disengaged? The place was a little grungy feeling. We ordered the homemade lemonade, but most of the serving "buckets" were empty. When we finally got our food, it was a little on the cold side. The cornbread came wrapped in cellophane and was heavy, cold, and stale. The beans were nothing special, and the meat and sauce didn't have a lot a flavor. The best thing about the place was looking at all the pictures of visiting rappers on the walls. Big bummer!

Color me unimpressed.  The brisket I got was fatty with weak sauce.  Just because the place looks like a total dump and supposedly has something to do with Snoop doesn't mean you should suspend your standards for food.

i had no idea what i was in for but like to try BBQ throughout the city and states.  this was recommended by a friend coming from wine country.   the service was slow, and i agree that the beef rib is tough.  i was hungry though.  sweet potatoe pie was great and quick right out of the fridge so i ate my desert before my main course.

i'm told snoop dog's uncle owns this place?!

oh well besides that, we enjoy the baby back ribs, brisket sandwich CORN BREAD!  and the baked beans.  not too big on soggy green beans though.

since i live down the street from this place i always drive by and get the smokey meaty smell in my car.  YUM.

Should always call ahead of time whether your eating in or taking to-go.  its a long ass wait man.  we called, placed our order, guy said ready in 20 minutes left house 15 minutes later and they still weren't done.  maybe because i like 2 minutes away (including getting into the car).  oh well anyways, the pictures on the wall is entertaining for the time being.
