About two months ago my boyfriend and I were searching for our first apartment. We wanted to move to Chicago. We had seen several places already and even prepared to sign a lease on a place that got sold out from under us.
We felt lost and pretty hopeless. A friend at work asked me if I had tried http://rentsmartchicag.... I let it go for about two weeks and didn't give it a second thought. Then, one magical day, I was sitting at the computer and the name just popped into my head. I inquired about a property in Lincoln Park and within minutes I had a response.
That response came from Ms. Rachelle Garcia. Rachelle Garcia works for the 3329 North Broadway location and she was absolutely wonderful.
My boyfriend, Brian, and I arrived at her office that fateful Saturday afternoon. We sat down with no expectations and full of hope. Rachelle was friendly and professional. We could tell she really knew her stuff when it came to the city and apartments that would work for us (even though I gave her VERY limited criteria)
We looked at some photos of places she'd be showing us, and just like that we were in her car and on our way! We chatted as we drove and it felt comfortable, like we'd already been friends. We looked at three places that day, none of which were the one I asked to see. And thank goodness! The places she showed us were so perfect!
It was the second place she showed us (our current little love nest in the south loop) that we fell for. Rachelle was so helpful throughout the entire process.
When we had applied for our place, she drove us back to her office and we said our goodbyes. In the next couple of days, I truly believe it was Rachelle's help that got us into our apartment. She followed up with us every step of the way and took time out of her busy schedule to make sure we were doing well.

I don't know why there's suddenly a new Rent Smart category but the 2 five-star reviews here seem a little fishy--epecially that one with the url all over the place.
Unlike some of the other horror stories about Rent Smart I was not robbed or scammed. I did however contact them (and spend an afternoon) to try to find an apartment in Ukrainian Village, which is where their office was located.
The first puzzler is that even though they were located there, they had zero apartments in the entire neighborhood. And my specifications were not narrow.
We eventually schlepped all the way up to Logan Square and Bucktown to look at several units which were junky, grimy and overpriced.
The agent was pleasant and punctual, but young and not very knowledgeable about the city. I knew more about the neighborhoods and how to get around than he did.
He never followed up with me afterwards either.
Pros: Availability
Cons: Ineptitude, Poor rental selection, No follow-up
I called Rent Smart to get help finding an apartment when my roommate told me all of a sudden that she and her boyfriend were moving in together and she was not going to renew at our place. I worked with Sadie to find a one-bedroom apartment. She was extremely helpful throughout my entire search--asking me specifically what I was looking for and e-mailing me different listings that she felt would be great for me. She didn't try to "push" any apartments on me that I wasn't wild about. She genuinely wanted to help me find the right apartment. Although I was able to find a roommate to move into my current apartment with me and didn't end up getting another place, I highly recommend Sadie. She has a great personality (outgoing, upbeat, friendly, and caring) and will do her absolute best to find you a fabulous apartment in Chicago.
