Great experience!
Here are my top 3 for getting boxes from these guys if you're doing a move:
1) Plastic crates stack securely, while cardboard bends...plastic means you can move efficiently and not have your fragiles crushed
2) Returnables mean you have to unpack quickly vs. leaving stuff in boxes. Your home gets organized because you have a deadline. You can then move on with your life.
3) Much better for the environment to use re-usable boxes. Also, much better for your time, as you don't have to assemble and tape.
In addition to the reasons why their green boxes are better than the norm, they have great customer service and are really nice people. Prompt, polite, communicate well, and very straightforward. Overall a great -

I thought this company would be fantastic based on all the reviews; however, that turned out to not be the case.
My first complaint was the price. The motto "A buck a box a week" is only a portion of the story. If you read the fine print the delivery and pick-up charges can be up to $99, which is how I ended up paying more than $200 for some plastic green tubs.
Owner Spencer Brown was efficient in working with me to find a good delivery time, too bad the delivery didn't happen until an hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled time. I understand things can happen, but when I called the delivery guy he repeatedly said he'd be there shortly.
I e-mailed Mr. Brown to let him know I was unhappy with the late arrival. His response was, "We had a slow start at the warehouse this morning." That's fine, but nowhere in that sentence is an apology for wasting my time when I had many other things to do that day in preparation for my move.
The best part of the experience was returning the tubs. Because I'd only rented them for a week, I was forced to unpack quickly, which is a huge plus because I am notorious for leaving things in boxes for years. And I didn't have to worry about getting rid of any cardboard. Need moving boxes?
Moving is one of the most stressful things a person can go through (in addition to a death, job change & divorce). Earth Friendly Moving has not only made it EASY, they've made moving environmentally conscious! I was on yelp trying to find a moving company (went with north star, whom I also highly recommend) when I read a review that mentioned these guys instead of using card board boxes.
They supply you with plastic, stackable, sturdy boxes made from 100% recycled plastic! And it's extremely affordable.
I thought I only needed 16 boxes, but Spencer (the founder) recommended the exact amount I needed (30). They also give you paper to wrap fragile items in, zip ties to secure the lids, a box cutter, tape, and convenient moving labels. I needed the boxes within 3 days of initially contacting them, and they made it happen, at a convenient time for me! None of this, 'we'll be there between 7am and 1pm' business. AND I live in LA, they're based out of orange county. They bring the boxes directly into your home, and pick them up again after you've moved.
I was THRILLED with this experience and have told everyone about them! it's a great business model, and it made my move so much easier! I didn't have to go out and buy boxes, or go dumpster diving looking for them, didn't have to assemble anything, then disassemble them and throw them away. And I helped the environment!

I loved my experience with Rent A Green Box. Moving is so traumatic to begin with and I really had no idea how many boxes I'd need. I had a one bedroom apt with a lot of stuff. Spencer Brown the owner handled my request via email immediately and explained everything in detail on how the service worked and estimated pretty accurately how many crates I'd need. He asked me if I had any hobbies, which I did (sewing) and knew how many more to estimate which really floored me. The drop off happened within the time frame he offered, which was great since I wasn't inconvenienced.
I used to work at a business where every month, we ordered and picked up cardboard to pack stuff and I just got so sick of the waste and the cardboard itself! The thought of either throwing them out or having to find someone to take them wasn't appealing at all. I think it was Todd who arrived and loaded my crates right into my garage which went really quickly and they didn't take up a lot of space. I drive a Mini and have a single garage for my old apt and you can imagine that space is TIGHT.
The crates are HEAVY empty (I'm a weakling) which was the only drawback - certainly not a problem if you have movers - and thank god I did. I used the Go Green Movers that Spencer gave me as one of 3 he recommended. THOSE GUYS WERE NICE!!! The extra large crates are great for moving shoes, kitchen pots and pans. I used mostly large and medium ones. Spencer will help you figure out what you need.
I ordered the extra $30 worth of recycled packing material which was these funky cardboard triangle things that replace peanuts which I didn't end up using and lots of paper. The paper that I used to wrap glassware and plates was great and seem to have been recycled from someone else's move (awesome). I carefully flattened each piece out when I unpacked and gave them all to another friend along with the packing triangle things. Todd said they'd be happy to take them back if I wanted to.
Since I moved to Huntington Beach, Spencer came over personally to pick up my empty crates. It was really nice to meet him; I really admired him, his business and his acumen. He was very likable. He counted up the crates that were stacked in my new two car garage and we weren't sure why he thought there were some missing. I never did get paperwork from Todd, just signed off on something so I didn't know how many he had actually left me. Spencer wasn't worried about it and said he'd check back with HQ. Anyway, a couple of days later I was shocked to see the last 6 remaining empty crates sitting behind a pile of laundry in the kitchen! I emailed him right away and he laughed and offered to send someone over to get them or I could drop them off. That reminds me, I need to call him to check on that again.
Would highly recommend this company and service! Also, renting by the week really helps you unpack your crap faster! Hurray Rent A Green Box!

Here I am writing a second review for http://Rentagreenbox.com! I used them last year and was overjoyed with Spencer and his genius product, so when it was time to move again I called him right away! Good thing too, PLAN AHEAD Yelpers! Give yourself a 2 week lead time with them so you can have your pick of what size boxes you need. People are loving this company and they are really busy..(good for you CA!) I got a mix of medium and large sized boxes, and they worked like a charm, again! There is not one part of this company and product I don't adore.

This is so much easier on the pocket than buying boxes which you then have to break down to store or recycle right away. They bring them to your door, then pick then up from your new place. This will be the simplest part of your move...
I adore their new packing products available for rent or sale. They have for sale some really cool pieces you throw into your compost or garden afterwards...talk about environment friendly! Otherwise you can rent and return the packing materials, no waste!! It's genius, I say again. They also sell recycled zip cords to keep your boxes closed up tight...they have everything and anything you need to move and you can feel good and green all over for using this service!

A BIG thank you to Spencer at Earth Friendly Moving! He had made it easy for me to go green for my move. I used to feel so guilty chucking away cardboard boxes, but NOT anymore!
Spencer's customer service is top-notch. It is so refreshing to meet someone who is so enthusiastic about their own products and really live out his business philosophy! He even showed me his veggie-oil run vehicle while I came by to pick up the boxes.
Spencer was kind enough to let me pick up some boxes in exchange for cookies. I had a really small move but he was able to estimate the correct number of boxes for my move nonetheless. The movers also were able to stack the boxes and move it with ease. My move took LESS than 2 hours, mainly due to Spencer's boxes!
Thanks again Spencer. I will definitely be calling you again for my next move! -

Can you believe that I used EarthFriendlyMoving twice in two months!?
The first time was to move my small one bedrom into a studio apartment from Huntington Beach to Costa Mesa (about a 10 mile trip). The totes were delieved 5 days before my move. Spencer Brown (owner) personally delivered the totes to my house and put them in my garage early one morning before I went to work. He explained to me the earth friendly way of moving and his vision with his company which I think is stellar.
Packing was a breeze. I simply took my belongings and put them in totes and stacked them in my garage. Come moving day, I just rolled the totes right onto the moving truck with a dolly and then rolled them right off at the new place. The only thing that sucked about moving was carrying the heavy furniture. Thanks to EarthFriendlyMoving my move was a breeze.
5 days after Specer picked the totes up from my studio apartment I called him back and said I NEED MORE TOTES. I decided the studio was too small and I was going to move into a bigger 1-bedroom unit at my complex. Although my new apartment was just a few feet away, having the totes made this SO much easier.

Spencer, you rock man! I had such a great move with the super-cool green boxes.
First, they're made from crap we throw away. That's cool.
Second, they make moving so incredibly easy; 3 sizes of boxes, no more tape or paper cuts from the box lids, they stack, and they're a cool green color!
Third, I didn't have to rent a truck to schlep down to the U-Haul place to buy boxes and I don't have to rent one again to haul them to the dump. The green box crew drop them off AND pick them up. A little hidden bonus here is that I now have an incentive to get all of the stuff out of the green boxes and into the right place in my new place.
Fourth, duh, it's a green way to help out poor old Mother Earth! Not only are the boxes made our recycled crap, so are all the packing materials they provide with the service. And, you get to watch them make your packing material right on the back of truck using power that's been generated and stored while driving to your place in the bio-diesel green box truck. Plus all of those nasty boxes stay out of the landfill so some dude 1000 years from now doesn't have to try and figure out why I wrote LR/1of1/FR/TSI/OF on the side of a box that just popped out of the ground where he's trying to raise some tomatoes in his post-environmental collapse slag heap.
Okay, forget Battlefield Earth. Just call the Green Box guys! -

Absolutely an amazing product/service.
It's no fun hitting up copy shops or pillaging grocery store dumpsters to get boxes. It's even less fun paying $3 - $4 dollars for a box that you'll be throwing away in a week or two.
I hope by my next move they will be in the DC area.

I think this is my first 5-star review...this company certainly earned it! The bins are just as described: sturdy and easy to work with. The packing supplies were perfect, the pickup & delivery was fast and painless, and the entire packing/moving process was SO much more efficient as a result. I really can't imagine moving with cardboard boxes now. Because of how the bins stack, the movers were able to fit more furniture into their truck, and only needed to make one trip. It was the shortest move of my life! If we ever need to move again, I'm giving these guys a call, first-thing!

These crates are so sturdy, and fit so much in them! Also, it eliminates the need for packing tape and unnecessary boxes. Todd dropped them off for us the day after we called to order them! They are pretty friendly and will look at your place and tell you around how many boxes you will need! The best part about this is that they drop the boxes off and pick them up!!!!!!! Oh, and that it's eco-friendly! I didn't get to personally meet Todd because I wasn't around for the pick up and drop off, but my husband said he was very helpful, friendly, and even put up with our puggle jumping all over him!!! I will use them next time I move!!

I read the other reviews here on yelp and decided to give it a try. I just moved in and Earth friendly moving made it a lot easier and less stressful. Packing was done in a jiffy thanks to recopacks! sooo cool! The price was really reasonable. Im a cheapo so I know I spent less than I used to buying the cardboard boxes and tape, paper and blaaah... anyway, Spencer's the best! Here's a guy with passion for his profession and the environment. Cheerio!

I've seen and touched the product Earth Friendly Moving offers and I can't wait to use it myself. They make sense from a financial and from a sustainability point of view. Plus it's a luxury to use their recycled rental boxes opposed to any other type of storage or moving device currently on the market. They're strong, comfortable to grip and easy to use.

I met Spencer Brown personally while on vacation in Ensenada, Mexico about a year ago. He spoke about his company and really was passionate and true about what his company stands for. Though I don't live close to his business I never forgot him or his company because of how moved I was with what he was doing for our environment. I think anyone who takes a stand to help try and make all our lives a little better in the future should be admired. The least we can do as observers is offer a helping hand when the opportunity presents itself in our own lives. This can really catch on and help our world... we just need to give some support.
