I went there twice in my Mini Cooper S. Once for a school with TNL. There were only three of us on the track with two instructors. What a day that was. Another time I went with TEAM Racing and had a good old time lapping with a few other cars. The driving school puts you through the paces and then you get a permit to do open track days on your own. A license to speed. TEAM Racing does the regular three group session and instructors to chase after. Good fun.

The first time I headed out to this track I was told that the track was so long that I would need GPS.  Hahaha...funny.

    They were right!

I did  a weekend trackday here with ZoomZoom and, I must admit, the morning of my first day I was ready to pack it all up and go home.  This track is long and undulating with sinuous and seemingly unending ribbons of asphalt.  It took me the whole morning to figure the place out.  But, once I did, it was sheer heaven.

With more than 30+ turns to master and close to 4 miles of road course, once you learn the track, the fun is unlimited.  This track will hone in a multitude of your riding skills because it seems to offer a bit of everything from tight and technical to open and fast.

My only complaints about this track are the few areas of asphalt that are rippled or just coarse.  Putting your knee down and having the asphalt snag your slider does not make for a very confident girl.  Also, facilities are very rudimentary - they could really use some real bathrooms!!

Totally worth the trip out if you spend two consecutive days here.

This track has been recently re-built, of sorts. What used to be dirt has been paved. It's now one of the longest, most sinuous tracks around. 32 turns in one lap of its largest configuration. It's not a liter motorcycle friendly track - this one is for middleweight uber-carvers. There are some rough patches where cars have dug out some big ripples. It does make slowing down before a hairpin a tad scary :-).

You can't beat the non-stop, blind, off-cambered to cambered corners coming at you one after the other. The first time on the track you must follow an instructor or someone who's been there before or you're just going to fly off the track.

You can even enter a huge banked corner at full throttle- G forces galore.

Absolutely loved the track. Why 4 stars? Because it's not easy to get to from the bay, especially with a mountain range in the way. Also the facilities aren't quite up to par with the likes of Thunderhill and Buttonwillow.

i like rfr, having done it as my first trackday a couple years back with Z2 in configuration C (counter clockwise). it was in july and it was about 105-110 at the hottest, which made it even hotter on the tarmac.

    Config C:

the place was a little hard for us to find, because it wasnt in reno - about 30 minutes outside. so dont stay in a high-rise hotel in reno... it's far to be driving and trying to find it at 7am.

rfr is super long (over 30 turns, and 4miles long). and if you're wanting to really refine your turns of all difference radii, then this is the place. it's not so long that you cant remember the flow of the track, unless you're doing 2 laps every session. but you'd have to be super super slow.

there are some bumpy areas, like the end of sunset straight... gouges in the tarmac from cars braking hard, and turn15A before going into the horseshoe.

you can get some pretty good speed on the front straight, but there are no really huge high-speed sweepers.

i think they use the technical course for races. not sure, though.

just like the prev reviewer said, the bathrooms suck - they're porto-potties and the classroom is a portable. they should really build something out there. no food vendors either. no fast food closeby.

I had my first wheel to wheel races at RF so it'll always have a soft spot in my heart, but even if it was my 100th race, Reno Fernely is simply one of the best tracks in existence.  Technically daunting, physically draining and mentally challenging--this course will throw it all at you and make you beg for more.

Back when this venue was open I ran course A and B on the road course.  Great elevation change, great speed.... just a thrill ride of a track.  The track staff has always been very pleasant as well.

Newbies to this track should plan on running it for two days consecutively if they want to learn anything.  The first day is to figure out where in the heck you are on the track and which turn is coming up next.  The second day is to go fast :-) !!!

I hope they can reorganize and reopen in 2010!
