This place is somewhere between four and five stars, but since I'm feeling really generous today, I'll round up. I've been staying here since Sunday night and everything about this resort screams relaxation. The rooms are pretty big and have little outdoor decks with two chairs and a small table. It was too chilly for me to sit outside, but I appreciated being able to walk out for a breath of fresh air whenever I wanted. Not to mention, I had a beautiful view of mountains and the golf course.
The event services here are top notch, and probably better than I've experienced at most other hotels. Even the boxed lunches were really good-- usually, I take one bite before tossing the box and heading to the restaurant but I actually enjoyed my lunch today at the conference I am attending.
The staff is friendly and all areas of the hotel seem very well kept. I heard great things about the golf course and spa services, as well. Great work, Marriott!
The Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa is a castle in the rolling hills outside of Birmingham. The staff is friendly, the amenities plenty, and the on-property options for food and fun are many.
My room was large, but located right next door to the house keeper's storage closet. They start cleaning the rooms early at Ross Bridge, and I could hear the door to their closet slam shut every time one of them came or went. I say this up front, because I'm still giving the place 5 stars: everything else overcame that deficiency.
There are two restaurants, and a Starbuck's. The Starbuck's is part of the hotel, and includes a little mini-mart. Get this, you can charge everything to your room. Brilliant!
They have a pool complex, including water slide, a spa, and a Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed golf course all on property. This is the kind of place where you park your car for the duration of your stay, and everyone has a great time: mom, kids and golfing dads. Plus, compared to West Coast resorts, Ross Bridge is extremely affordable: $170/night in the heat of summer.

My massage therapist works here, and I must say, this place is lovely. I used to go to Spa Japonika, due to proximety to my residence. Having switched, I would never go back. The spa provides robes, slippers, access to a sauna, hottub, jacuzzi, quiet room, and changing area. their waiting room has fruit, water, and nuts to munch on. The ambiance is soothing, and the facilities are top-notch. After my massage, the spa provides everything I need to shower and get dressed, even spray deoderant, if I wanted. They also give 20% off services (massage, wax, etc.) Monday-Wednesday for Birmingham residents.
