The Town and Country bar in the Mayflower Hotel is the height of old school glamour in DC (which isn't saying much, but still...).  This is a great place to go drink and actually have a conversation with your companions.  You didn't hear it from me, but if you're into wealthy older guys there are worse places to hang out...

Clientele - grown-ups, well-heeled, no teenyboppers or frat dudes

Atmosphere - dark wook, cozy couches, piano music, sort of rich person is-that-his-wife-his-mistress-or-his-hooker glamorous

Food - complimentary bowls of tasty roasted nuts, which are kept full by the vigilent staff.  I think you can order off a full menu, but I have never tried anything.

Drinks - potent, large, delicious, expensive but worth every penny, the selection of cocktails is tremendous

My favorite American hotel. Period.  More incoming American presidents have stayed here before moving into the white house than have not.  Beautiful interior and they deliver a hot pot of coffee and a paper to your door every day - FREE.

The Town and Country bar is my favorite DC bar, great bartenders, great nuts and when they have happy hour food, it's classy.  Posh interior is warm and welcoming.  You just don't want to leave.

In the heart of Washington D.C. you will find many things.  Among those things, the most prevalent is the parting of you and your money.  Everything is ridiculously expensive; but at least there is some consistency to it.  I guess in a municipality where everyone is spending tax dollars to show-off and to wine-and-dine other dignitaries.

Parking is valet only, so make certain that you are removing all valuable items from the vehicle.  As usual, the valet people are crazy drivers.  It is interesting to see that it is not just Miami.

The Renaissance Mayflower was no different when it came to price -- it was up there.  The plus was that I was staying in the hotel that housed the convention I was attending.  Very old building with a lot of character and I am happy to see that a lot of the money that I paid for the room is actually going into the upkeep of the facilities.  Everything looked immaculate.

Our room was rather large and well decked with commodities and other assorted and sundry items that you don't normally see at a Motel 8 or Holiday Inn Express.  Again, I see where a bit of the room fees are going.  The view to the street was amazing and it was wonderful to see what a truly vibrant city looks like at night.

After spending two nights, though, I was quite ready to leave upon seeing the bill.  Yes, it was comfy and full of amenities; but I am not a fu-fu type of person and I am just fine without all of the bells and whistles so long as the green goes where I want it to go -- into my food!

The Mayflower Hotel has quite a bit of charm.  I have stayed there twice, and I have enjoyed both stays.

The hotel has quite a history involving spies (both Nazi and Soviet).  NY Gov. Elliot Spitzer had his encounter with a prostitute in a room here (whose number has been removed according to a friend and whose doorway was sealed over).  On my previous trip here, I saw Newt Gingrich and some other men meeting over breakfast.  Being fairly close to the White House and downtown, the hotel has been welcoming political figures since the days when J. Edgar Hoover used to regularly lunch here.

I was able to get a room for an October weekend for $80/night through Priceline along with two other friends.  Each of our rooms -as well as the one I stayed in previously- varied considerably in size and layout.  This time my room was quite small (432 and my friend in 433) but my friend upstairs on the 9th floor had a room double in size.  We all paid $80 off Priceline by the way, so my friend didn't pay more for the larger room.

The hotel is old, but works hard to make the place seem nice.  Mirrors are widely used on walls to give rooms a larger sense of space.  Molding and heavier wooden doors give a sense of craftsmanship and solid classiness to the hotel.

The lobby has a small bar across from registration.  A long, wide hallways connects the two entrances on opposite sides of the block that the Mayflower sits on.  Ballrooms extend off this hallway and conferences/meetings often are taking place.

The Mayflower's location is perhaps its best asset.  You can easily get there via the Blue line on the Metro from Reagan/National Airport (DCA) to Farragut West station and then a short walk of about a block.  Farragut North is actually closer -just down the block from the hotel- but it requires a transfer to the Red line from the airport.  The hotel sits about midway between the downtown area north of the White House and Dupont Circle.  It is easy to walk to both and restaurants, clubs, and bookstores abound in the neighborhoods near the hotel.  This is lucky because the restaurant at the Mayflower is quite expensive.

One negative is the large HVAC system outside some rooms.  From rooms 433 and 432 there was a strange vibration or hum from the HVAC that sounded like someone's white noise machine set on thunder/rain but not playing rhythmically.  Request a room away from the HVAC turbines.

The hotel has charm and a great location.  It is not particularly luxurious (my tub was chipping for instance), but I like it.  I recommend this historic hotel.

Not great, not terrible. The room was small and dark - one window and one half window on the inside, so we had limited natural light. There were only 2 lamps in the whole room, so we were perpetually squinting to find stuff in the room. It was fairly quiet, a positive, but the bathroom was lilliputian. We got the room via Priceline, so I can't complain, but had we paid the advertised prices, I'd be aghast. I do have to say, the location can't be beat; however, given the plethora of other hotels in Dupont Circle, I'll opt to stay elsewhere next time.

Though the Renaissance Mayflower bills itself as a 4-star hotel (at least on Priceline, through which I got a decent deal), that's not QUITE accurate. Yes, the entrance/ lobby is lovely and old-fashioned, speaking to the hotel's storied history (many presidents have stayed here...and, infamously, New York's former governor, Eliot Spitzer). However, the room my boyfriend and I stayed in was very small-- it almost had the feel of servant's quarter's--with lackluster beige colors and a drab design. The room lacked feng shui--the TV (not flat-screen...which dates the hotel, I think) was placed to the side of the bed, so you couldn't really watch comfortably, and there was no armchair! Just a rather stiff chair at the small desk. Though very clean--an important detail, to be sure--the bathroom was particularly small, with no towel rack, and not much space to maneuver around. Also, the room lacked any additional outlets, which meant we had to unplug certain appliances in order to charge our cell phones and laptop.

Speaking of laptops, the pay-for-internet (not even wireless!) felt dated and out-of-touch; most hotels nowadays (especially 4 star, I would imagine!) provide free wireless internet in their rooms.

All that being said, our stay at the Renaissance Mayflower turned out to be pleasant. The king-size bed was super-comfy (pillow-top!) and a delight to sleep in (a word of warning, though: be sure to hang a do-not-disturb sign on the door if you want to sleep late --otherwise, house-keeping will bang on your door very early!). The  location simply can't be beat--the Metro is literally down the street, and the restaurants and shops of Dupont Circle are about a 5-10 minute walk away. There's also a terrific Filene's Basement across the street, which came in handy when we needed to buy some last-minute clothing items! PLUS, we spotted a celebrity in the elevator! Very fun.

The Mayflower clearly isn't in its heyday anymore, but it's still a convenient, clean, and comfortable place to stay in D.C.

Super impressed with the hotel!

We found this hotel to be less expensive than the hotels out near the Pentagon Area (Crystal City) and you can not beat the location..

Staff was super friendly and you can tell that the rooms are well maintained.  I had requested a King size bed on the online reservation, it was not available so I emailed the GM.  He personally responded and had a fruit basket and bottle of Evian water sent to the room.

You do not need a car..in fact if you do come hear, try to take the metro or a cab.  Parking in the center city area is expensive.

This will be the only place I stay when in DC!

I enjoyed my stay here, although my friend and I who are in our early 20s, were out of place! Goodness, all those middle-aged people were 10x properly dressed than I am ('kay fine, I'm from the West Coast so shush). Regardless, the location is near two accessible Metro stations and right in Dupont Circle.

Honestly, I would have given it 3 stars but there were some reservation debacle and the hotel manager helped us and voila, problem solved.

I was in DC last week for a job interview and needed a hotel for one night. By using Priceline, I got the Renaissance Mayflower for $90. Even though my stay was incredibly brief, I will definitely stay at this hotel on a future trip to the city.

The highlights of the hotel are:

*All the hotel staff I encountered (doormen, bell hops, front desk) were incredibly friendly and helpful.

*Bed in the room was super comfy.

*Nice size room with lots of mirrors. I hate when hotel rooms don't have at least one full-length mirror and the Mayflower had two full-length ones in the room!

*Bathroom was a nice size.

*Very convenient to the Metro. Farragut North is less than a two minute walk away.

*Noon checkout. If you have to store bags, it's super quick to drop them off and pick them up later in the day.

My only negative observation was that checkout on Thursday morning was a hot mess. Thankfully my bill was perfectly fine and I didn't have to deal with waiting in the line to checkout.

Compared to other historic luxury hotels, this is better appointed and  more comfortable than most. My room was spacious, quiet and had a king-sized pillow-top bed.

The bar and restaurant were pricey (to be expected in hotels) but offered quality food, drinks and service. They offered early check-in (11am) during a busy holiday weekend.

The Mayflower is located by Metro, stores (Thomas Pink, Victoria's Secret, etc.), restaurants (Subway, Starbucks, etc.) and only a few blocks from the White House.

We had a wonderful family weekend over Thanksgiving at this fine property. The rooms were really nicely done and spacious. The lobby is a classic style. The staff was excellent throughout all of the hotel services. Above average work out facility.

The bar is pricey but cozy. The hotel is close to the Metro station. Upscale and pricey. But very very nice. Parking is valet only so give yourself time to get your vehicle back when you need it.

Stayed here in January and came for a drink this trip. Pretty lobby, pretty Peacock Alley. Pretty good location. People are well trained and not 100 percent slovenly. The rooms are tiny and antiquated (not in a good way) soft goods are tired. On balance I only stay here if I have to. Three Stars.

Well, I tried to write this review for the Town and Country bar yesterday, but I was prevented on account of my inability to handle the drinks I was served the night before. My, MY, the drinks are strong.

The great thing about the martinis here are as follows:

- They are extremely well-made.
- They are double the cost as they would be elsewhere, but all are top-shelf and huge (at least they seem huge in retrospect).
- Also, the cost is made up for by the three (exaggerating) bowls of trail mix I ate at the bar and the fact that the bar in and of itself is so great.

This is one of those wonderful people-watching bars/hotels. While waiting to meet my friend outside on an oddly warm night, I witnessed all sorts of interesting comings and goings. I'm sure the walls of the Mayflower have many stories to tell.

The bar was loud and lively and energetic in a really old-world sort of way. I will certainly return.

Invited here by a friend to attend an event, they had great tapenades with crustini to munch on while we were there. We got free drink tickets so I am not sure of the price but I would imagine the restaurants to be good and spendy. Lots of old dudes at the bar...you know, in case you are looking for sugar daddy. ;-) A bit too gaudy for me! It's old school. The bartender was nice, in general the staff was friendly.

agreed with most reviews, this is a very nice hotel.  got the room through pcln, at $150 per night (probably overpaid), but the room assignment was great.  a bit of a hike from the elevators, but the room is huge comparatively speaking, the bedding was comfortable, and the bathroom and etc. were nice.  lack of free internet is a buzzkill, and primary reason for deduction of a star.  otherwise, great location for a business trip, and excellent value if covered through pcln.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Mayflower and our room was beautiful. Relatively modern and well-appointed, with a good size living room (we had a 2 bedroom suite). Our service was fantastic throughout the weekend and we were well taken care of.

The lobby of the Mayflower is impressive and I'd recommend stopping in if you're a tourist to our fair city. The bar is incredibly overpriced (as would be expected) but if you're a young semi-attractive woman that doesn't mind talking to Republicans in exchange for a free drink, that really doesn't matter.

This place should never earn more than 4 stars because it doesn't consider itself 5 star.  I got my room through Priceline with an offer for a '4 star room at a 2 star price'.  Not exactly true.  You get a two star room -- a converted servant's quarters -- in a 5 star neighborhood.  And the price is still 3.5 stars.

I feel badly for the young, pretty women that stay here.  I mean half the guys are wondering if she's here for a 'client #9'.  The other half are hoping to be client #9.

The beds do the job [some more than others].  The amenities are nice.  But pretentiously named.  'Hair wash' is still shampoo.  GMAB.

But parking is outrageous.  You can park for free on 17th.  Just gotta get up early and move it until you find reasonable parking.  But most place will let you park over 24 hours for $20.  The hotel charges $39 for valet.

Gotta go put more quarters in the meter.  Have a nice day working.

Fantastic cocktails in an old-school ambiance. Given these key elements keep in mind this vibe is not for everyone. Let's put it this way: I wouldn't feel like I was being respectful enough to the establishment wearing jeans and flip flops.

Their cocktails are price-y ($14.50 a pop), however they are deadly and delicious. Their bartenders know their stuff. The Lychee Martini is one of the best drinks I have had in the city. Aside from the basics- a chilled martini glass, high quality ingredients, clean counter-top- their service is impeccable. Overall I think this place is perfect for a couple cocktails or a sophisticated night out. Just be prepared for hushed tones and an older crowd.

Gorgeous hotel, located in hopping Dupont Circle, Washington D.C. We were in walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The lobby is gor-geousss, but it's the location that can't be beat. I even saw George Stephanopolous walking in jeans and a T *sigh* in the surrounding area. The suite was spacious and felt homey, in a luxurious homey way. It was another bach'tte wknd. We left the 6 foot phallus in the elevator bc we didn't know where else to dispose of it, otherwise it was a very classy time.

Folks, do not EVER host an event for 600 people at the Mayflower.  Please, trust me on this.  Their service staff is rude and noisy (think pushing my members out of the way instead of saying excuse me to clear tables, walking through the aisles while our speakers are talking even after we requested that NOT to happen, etc.).  The banquet food was awful (at one meal for the staff we were served leftover COLD turkey from our event the night before).  The event staff was plain difficult to deal with to manage our setup needs.  The event manager was nowhere to be found throughout our conference - almost like he was hiding because he didn't want to deal with us.  Because he was absent, we dealt with the rudeness of the staff.  On our conference evaluations, we got nailed over and over for the poor quality of the food and conference amenities.

For the amount of money that my organization spent here (including using a majority of their hotel rooms for 3 nights), the service should have been much much better.  If you want a great conference function, please look around before deciding on the Mayflower.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Mayflower. The location is great - close to 2 metro stops and walking distance to the White House and Dupont Circle. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing that was a little stressful was when we arrived - the hotel is on a pretty busy street and it was raining pretty hard. The valet whisks the car away and hands you a ticket before you can think. We ended up leaving some things in the car that we wanted because the whole thing happened so fast. There were tons of people everywhere and the lobby was a little overwhelming.

Our room was great - 2nd floor, comfortable king bed, with a view of a side street. There was some street noise from a bar across the street but we were so tired it didn't bother us. You can hear everything in the hall, though, such as screaming children! Nice bathroom, though it is strange that there is no towel bar and only 1 little hook. We ended up getting room service late one night and the food was delivered promptly and it was actually very good. We were pleasantly surprised.

Overall, we enjoyed the Mayflower very much. There is free street parking on the weekends, but we ended up keeping our car in valet just because we didn't want to deal with it. Also, the elevators were quick - we never had to wait long at all. I would recommend this hotel - we had a nice experience.

I stayed here for several days last June for a conference, and I'm really surprised to find out how "high class" people think it is. All in all, I would have considered it the least luxurious room I'm ever stayed in.

One of my colleagues went out one night we were there and told people he was staying at the Mayflower and everyone was "ooohing" and "ahhhing".

Honestly folks, there's nothing fancy about this place besides the chandeliers. The beds, the pillows, the bathrooms and the TVs are the same as in any other moderately, even cheaply priced hotel.

This review is for the Town and Country bar, which I would frequent recklessly if not for the fact that most patrons would assume I was a call girl and because I don't have more money than God.

If you're looking for old school DC, where people schmooze over martini's and scotch this is the place.  The usual clientele tends towards the over 50 crowd, in buisness suits, hanging out while they're in town.  I'd say that also describes the locals there as well.

It's not that I love rich old men (hehehe) that I go here, but because you feel so glamourous in an old Hollywood, movie set kinda way when you're there.  The bar features a wonderful piano player, rich mahogony and leather (tee hee hee), bartenders and waiters clad in white sport coats (a la Casablanca).  Everyone always seems to be having the most fabulous or intelligent conversation ever, although most of the time I guessing it's about something totally boring.  I just have a great imagination I guess.  The whole atmostphere of the bar just makes me want to dress up and grab a friend to savor the moment.

Drinks here will almost always set you back in the sobriety department (and also your wallet)  They're tasty though, and there's a large selection.  Ask for the martini list (there's over 100), and lots of other sippers.  The bartender sometimes makes something up for me, and lets me try it before purchase.  Where else can you do that?

It is so lavishly beautiful. I don't want to leave. I'm here on business for 6 days and it's AMAZING.

The president of Uganda is 4 floors down from me. They were making jokes about Nigeria- gotta love that African humor!

Every politico on earth must be here. I heard Dick Cheney was here yesterday- I noticed a dark cloud hanging right above the hotel...no wonder. It's like what celebs are to LA; Washington DC has fans of politicians (one guy even asked me to take a picture of him and this really ugly congresswoman or senator or something else I don't know) like die hard fandom, dude.

Warning: Don't get the room facing 17th St. I was in 649 when I got here and I could not sleep because of the damn central AC turbine (sounds like being in airplane.) I switched to a room facing Connecticut St., much better.

Everyone is so nice here too. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman...but not like the hooker part, you know.

Only bummer was no sauna. :(

While yes, aesthetically the Mayflower is beautiful, I don think this is a place for everyone. In fact, I know that the bar at the Mayflower is not a place for me. If I had to chose a place to hang out it will not be where I go. It is very dark and the crowd was a bit old/older. The drinks are ok and service is good, but other than being a fancy bar at a fancy hotel, there is nothing outstanding about this place.

Absolutely Stunning.

From the moment we checked in, I knew this was going to be a lovely stay. The receptionist was very kind when I asked for a room with a decent view. She got me something on the second to the highest floor. I didn't even have to flirt with her! She was just as kind as kind can be. Their rates are pretty competitive too. 199.00/night isn't too bad at all...

The room was a pretty decent size. A fabulous Marriott bed. Have you slept on a Marriott bed? My god. It's a dream.

If you are a Marriott Silver Elite member, make sure you get the breakfast in the morning. It's absolutely incredible. I feel as if I have to be dressed in Sunday's best to eat breakfast in there. The service is great. Seriously.

The gym is pretty new, clean, and well stocked. I highly recommend it, make sure you check it out if you plan on staying here.

This hotel is also steps away (literally) from the Farragut North Metro Station. A few blocks from Dupont Circle. This hotel gets 5 Stars. Easy.

I will admit to being a fan of hotel bars - generally speaking, no one bothers you and the bartenders can make a decent drink.  The Town and Country bar is still my favorite - nudging out the Hay-Adams only because I can stumble home from the Mayflower.

The drinks are first rate.  I tend to favor bourbon, neat - and they have a lovely selection.  But if you require a mixed drink - as I often do - the bartenders excel at those old school classics that get horribly butchered at most bars in town.  These bartenders know that a good Manhattan should just be some bourbon left in a room with an open bottle of vermouth.  My husband's drink of choice is a martini - and while their list does indulge in some of those inexplicably popular candified martinis, the martinis produced by this place are first rate.

I also like the old-school vibe of the place - cozy chairs, nut bowl, nary a flip-flop in sight.  Sitting alone at the bar generally results in an awkward conversation with some visiting businessman, but who cares?  The drinks are that good.

I have not had the good fortune to stay here, but thanks to a very spontaneous father, I have had an early breakfast in the restaurant here.
To reiterate what all reviewers before me have stated: classic, fancy shmancy Washington hotel. Lobby and restaurant are formal and exquisite.
They play classical music in the restaurant, making for a very elegant dining experience. Menu is not extensive, at least for breakfast, but I must say that I had the most beautiful and therefore most amazing tasting muesli I have ever had there. It came absolutely covered in fresh chopped fruit.
They also bestow you with your very own thermos of coffee, to be poured at your own leisure into your very beautiful china tea cups.
In short: a beautiful and luxurious way to begin your day.

When  i want to splurge, I stay at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.
The lobby is opulent,  the staff friendly and helpful, the corridors are wide  and well lit and the rooms (especially the suites) are home away from home. I've always been given a one bedroom suite.  If you're a gold elite member, ask and you shall receive. The living  area is spacious and comfortable. There is a desk off the living room if you need to do some work. There's an armoire with a selection of books just in case you can't sleep. There is a bar area equipped with a sink and refrigerator .
Plush robes (you can't keep unless you buy them) and Mayflower embroidered slippers ( they're yours to keep!) are found in the closet.
Lemongrass scented bath soap and all the toiletries you need. If you forget your razor and toothbrush, concierge will bring one up to you.
The Marriott beds are plush, just like sleeping on a cloud. The linen and down comforter makes it a real cozy and restful night.
In the past, when you asked for a wake up call, you could request for coffee, tea or hot chocolate, complimentary. Once that wake up call rang, When you opened your door, your beverage request would be outside on a tray. Sadly, they eliminated that service.      :-(
Gold elite members get a free buffet breakfast. A great selection. I had blueberries there that were the size of marbles!
The Metro stop (Farragut North)is just around the corner from the hotel.
Filenes Basement is just outside the doors to the hotels right, the National Geographic Museum is located at the back of the Hotel and Ann Taylor, Talbots and The Gap is across the street.. The perfect location for shopping and restaurant hopping.
You won't be disappointed!

the other reviewers have said it already, but i agree. the conference i attended had awful food, awful service. examples:

1) food sucks. crab cakes at the bar are almost inedible. old wilting lettuce and dry onions. breakfast was stale croissants, hard boiled eggs, and a giant fruit bowl consisting only of pineapple and honeydew cubes. lunch was rubbery cold chicken and boiled vegetables drowned in butter. i put this place on par with old american airplane food. nasty.

2) service. after the doorman stared blankly with his arms by his side at the business man in front of me who was fighting alone to get through the doors with his luggage i was greeted by a man who told me i didn't need to go to the desk to register. "we have your room ready sir". sadly, it turns out he did not have my room ready. but he made me spell my name a hundred times and then go through twenty questions to troubleshoot their failure to prepare my room. why? i don't know why your system does not work. only then was i allowed to register for the room. yes i AM a rewards "elite" member. thanks for the giant hassle and runaround.

3) rooms. after all that i'm given a room with a view of the hvac. if you can't sleep with massive turbines buzzing outside your window, i recommend asking to be placed away from the inner and lower rooms. i also recommend asking for a room where the AC does not have a vent custom designed to point directly at the bed, or you might experience intermittent blasts of ice-cold air while trying to sleep.

positives: it's probably a fantastic place if you are truly given "elite" status. it was easy to see a huge difference between people who practically had their drinks and food dropped on them (most people around) and the occasional guest who was strangely treated like royalty. night and day. probably a DC thing.

they have a lot of wasted space. so, great place to stay if you are twice the width of a normal person or want to race chairs outside your room. the hallways are strangely wide, the bathrooms use up an amazing amount of room for no purpose (a yard of marble between toilet and sink). that massive old 26" TV from the 1990s and surrounding full-size wardrobe cabinet are definitely a charmer. gave my room that "spare room at grandma's house" feeling.

nice bedding and prompt room service. nice plaster work and painting in the meeting rooms. probably similar to the elite rooms. i guess the chandeliers are nice, but i'm not impressed by spaces that lack natural light and try to make up for it with incandescence from the 1900s.

iin summary, it feels like a hotel with out-of-date values that struggles to provide basic services to regular guests. even budget european hotels make this hotel look bad. i won't be staying again. if i'm forced to another conference i don't think i would agree to more than $200/night here unless i was treated like a guest, and i definitely will eat elsewhere.

Nice lobby - TERRIBLE SERVICE  (they brought the wrong dessert/tiramisu) - the cheesecake was inedible (looked like a 2 inch x 2 inch block of no-bake and the texture mirrored a display item that had sat in a plastic box in a cafeteria for 3 days; you could't puncture the whipped cream). The waiter was pissed when we returned it. A nice lobby only goes so far.

I stay here a lot for business because it's just so darn close to the Metro, shops, and restaurants. Plus the staff (pretend to) know who I am and are always so nice to me. Yes, it's stodgy. But it's clean, comfortable, and sort of shabbily elegant. The recent renovations have gone a long way, too - the new fitness center is quite nice and the lobby no longer reeks of cigar smoke. The varying treats they provide with turndown service (M&Ms, mixed fruit, chocolate covered pretzels) add a lovely element of surprise to the end of my day.

Enjoyed a very nice 2-night stay at the Mayflower in D.C, a beautiful & classic old hotel. Convenient walking distance to the White House/Capitol, DuPont Circle & a short cab ride to Georgetown. Excellent martini's in the Town & Country bar!  Would give 5 stars, but the rooms need upgrading (old TV set, carpets need replacing, etc.)   The bed  & the linens were top quality. The bathroom was beautiful with marble & terrific amenities.  Will stay at the Mayflower again.

The Town & Country bar in the hotel is classically excellent. Decor made of rich woods, brass and Renaissance style furniture. They have the most comfortable barstools that I can remember having sat in. The bartenders here are professionally uniformed and trained - I think we should refer to them as mixologists. My drink was extremely strong and overall not to good. HOWEVER, my mixologist fixed it with a smile and didn't even bat an eye. An overall excellent experience that I am sure helped me get a third date next week.

This is a glitzy but traditional hotel, conveniently located by Dupont circle next to all the food and shopping. It is near the Metro and a good place to stay for conferences or meetings. The hotel restaurant has delicious food and drinks. Make sure to check your bill carefully. They charge you for just opening the mini-fridge even if you do not take anything out but store your own items in it!

Beautiful historical hotel.  The service has always been great.  I've stayed at this hotel for the past three years, three different times, for the same conference.  It's a block from the metro, and located in the three blocks from the trendy Dupont circle.  Architecture from many of the homes nearby are just great to look at.  The beds are oh so comfy and their turn down service I look forward to.  The bar at the hotel is a nice spot to have cocktails before the night out.  Great hotel.

I spent the weekend here. I thought the decor was beautiful. The front desk staff was very pleasant at check in. I was not pleased with the room I received, I requested a king bed and received two double beds. The problem was easily fixed. The location is perfect, close to the Red line. Walking distance to dining in Dupont Circle. Overall, I was impressed with my stay and will return in the future.
