What delicious and polite room service!
What a comfortable bed!
What! I didn't go to the pool? :(
The first time I stayed here I got to stay in a fabulous suite for a girlfriend's birthday. The room had an incredible, panoramic view of Hollywood, as well as the very modern pool area (complete with a dj booth on the roof!).
Funny story: when we checked in and first entered the room, we noticed some construction workers working at the pool. We pondered whether they could see us from out there, and eventually came to the conclusion that the windows must be mirrored or deeply tinted since the guys never appeared to be looking into our room- a room full of PYT's! So we begin to disrobe and get ready for the night, and one of the more daring girls jokingly waves at the construction crew whilst in her underwear. Well, one waved back and we were all frightened! We had a good laugh, but immediately closed the curtains. So remember: If you happen to stay at the suite with the direct pool view, the people at the pool CAN see you. :)
Bonus: They give you a $50 voucher for their spa, Spa Luce when you check in. Also, I LOVE the fruit water in the lobby. :)
We chose this hotel primarily, because we were looking for a Marriott hotel where we could cash in some of our Marriott Rewards Points to keep in line with a vacation on the cheap (relatively speaking). Our experiences with other Renaissance hotels were not very positive, so we were a little anxious whether or not we would be happy with this property. I have to say this is a very nice hotel for its category. The decor is smart, the staff are polite and courteous, and they lack the gushing corporate zeal one usually finds in chain-brands similar to this hotel. We didn't eat at the hotel's restaurants, but in a pinch, they seemed like they would be okay.
Its biggest flaw is the location; it butts up to Disneywood, at least that's what it looks like anymore. Disney or super hero characters roaming Hollywood Blvd eager for a photo op with that Midwestern family. I visited Hollywood last in the late eighties when crazies sat on the curbs, some with their pants falling down providing an ample view of ass-crack; LAPD maneuvering a U-turn mid street so they could jump out swat-style, guns drawn to take down some of the neighborhood's bad element, but those were happier times. We did spot a couple hookers who were of many possible gender combinations. Obviously hangers on of days gone by.
Now it's the bottom line. Let's give America a reason to come to Hollywood even if movies aren't made here anymore. The streets getting hosed down at 2-3 a.m. is a nice touch though, and does wonders to remove urine and other effluence that accumulates throughout the day. That said, the hotel is nice, in spite of its location. We just felt a little claustrophobic because wandering out of the hotel for a neighborhood stroll was limited to the tourist trappings of Hollywood Blvd.
ate here on a trip to LA. the food was good
We went to the Blink 182 concert on October 10th @ the Palladium and stayed here - it was a flawless experience - I LOVED my stay here. Was worth the $200 (thank you for the AAA discuont!) and it was just a great time. Shower was good, bed was amazing and view was wonderful!
Renaissance Hollywood = great location! Connected to the Hollywood & Highland Center and Nokia theater and walking distance from pretty much everything! Friendly staff, nice clean rooms with huge windows and it's connected to the mall! I highly recommend coming here if you plan on attending an event or just in town for the weekend clubbin' in hollywood (party animals!). Go to "the highlands" restaurant/ nightclub located inside the mall . A beautiful intimate restaurant with an amazing view.
*Fresh breathe of air* Modern, sleek, and luxurious.
After checking out of the ghetto celebrity, I drove up to the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel drive way to be greeted by valet and the bell hop. Friendly and great customer service. I checked in around noon to see if our room was ready and sure enough it was :). The bell hop was hilarious and was giving us a little mini tour along the way to our room. Fruit water and M&M's to tantalize your tongue for your liking.
Awesome location, walking distance to Hollywood Blvd star walk of fame, with tourist shops filled with "celebrities" trying to grab a picture with you. Easy breezy stroll to soak up the "History of Hollywood Glamor" at your footsteps.
I will definitely stay here again. Even with $29 valet parking, I think it's all worth it. Oh, this hotel averages $220 a night and thank god for my government ID, I got it for $128 a night, just 6 more bucks a night compared to the Celebrity! Holla at your girl!!!
I went to the Jason Mraz concert Sat night and stayed here with some friends. What a cool hotel! It is in the perfect location, close to the Hollywood Bowl and close to restaurants and shops. You can easily walk to The Bowl, I don't recommend doing it in 4" heels!!! Ouch! We had to walk back because there was a shortage of cabs! The staff is very nice and helpful. Most importantly they have a M&M gumball machine in the lobby!!! No change required! And you're not digging in a bowl filled with germs trying to get some candy! The rooms are nice and clean. Beds are comfy. Nice views of the city too! We had shabu shabu when we left the next day, just a stones throw away. Love to shabu!
When I checked in, the clerk upgraded my room without asking. This was the first of many pleasant surprises. My stay was great, and a definite improvement over the Roosevelt last May (although the Roosevelt has arguably better nightlife).
The location is great. It is close to Hollywood Blvd. on one side, and the Hollywood Bowl on the other side. It is also convenient to the 101.
I highly recommend the Renaissance.
This hotel reminds me of one of my exes.....real pretty, but not a whole lot happening upstairs.
It looks like it would be pretty swank- pretty modern lobby, fruity toiletries; but lemme tell ya.....
If this weren't on the bossman, I wouldn't have stayed more than the first night. I am not paying no $220 a night for SINGLE PLY TPand thin scratchy towels!!! I'm calling bullshit on that!
AND their TV has pretty limited channels, some rooms have really low ceilings, and the elevators get a little confused sometimes. Meaning they open, let you in, then bleet at you like sheep until you go to another elevator...one that actually moves you from one floor to another....
The VIP club lounge on the 19th floor was impressive with it's continental breakfast- but I'm not sure who you have to do to get in there....
Maybe one of the toothless alabamians staying at the hotel during their "Deal or No Deal" debut? It's lame that the hotel doesn't offer any sort of continental b-fast. And watch out- that room service has a 37% service charge- WHAT! It is pretty tasty though. And yes, you are like right in the thick of all the action for the Hollywood Strip- mall and all.
Four stars for the location and service, definitely. One of the entrances opens right into the shopping center! I don't know how I feel about the fact that it's located in such close proximity to walking drunkards coming up off the boulevard, but I ain't gonna hate! With a few more shots, that could just as well have been me ;)
Valet parking is $29 per night, but skip that shit and park the car yourself; it's only $10 that way. And there are always plenty of places close enough to the elevators!
I wish I could have taken more advantage of the amenities on site, such as Spa Luce or even the hotel bar. Well, now i have even more of a reason to come back.
FYI, it helps to be a Marriott Rewards member, or know someone on staff, because even though this hotel averages on $220 a night on weekends, I got it for $164, holla!
I'm still a little hazy on the details.
After an awesome UYE on Sunset, I call my friends Chris and Liz, who unexplicably are at a hotel party...in the penthouse suite of the Renaissance Hollywood.
The lobby at the Renaissance is deliciously spartan. A couple of couches, an enormous christmas tree decked out with blue lights, one or two front desk clerks at the front desk on a casual Saturday night. The decor and carpeting are typical in that $300-a-night kinda way. I jump on the elevator, hit the call button for the 20th floor, walk down the hallway and enter the penthouse suite. A huge living room, multiple bathrooms, an even bigger bedroom....it's so awesome, it borders on being obscene.
Can I just say that this suite has probably the coolest view of Downtown LA? How can it not, when the whole thing is encased by mirrors. Oh, and those mirrors! What I would give to be plowed against one of those mirrors.
This place is cool. The best looking garbage cans ever. But there is no hot-tub by the pool, and not much is happening. A convention of nuns was there (at the same time the Grammy's were being held!) and there wasn't too much moving/shaking energy there. The mojito I ordered wasn't great. But at least they had mint.
The staff was nice, the room was spacious/well designed. I'd stay there again, but for the price, I'll look elsewhere first.
Oh, and the Spa looks cool but it was closed, and they're remodeling the fitness room.
Great location!!!! The room we had from our room of the Hollywood sign was fantastic! It made the experience even better than we had hoped for. The restaurants adjoined to the hotel were excellent as well as the room service. A very good value for your dollar. A must stay if you are in the area.
This is the start of my hotel review, cause I've stayed in some doozies. But this is one of the few "Ritzi" hotels that I've stayed at and I have to say that I like it. The staff is super nice, the rooms are really clean, the design and layout of the place is great also. And to boot they have a website that works! Something that gets overlooked with reviews of hotels is their website, because many people look online for rooms and hotels and this one does not disappoint.
I've stayed here once a year for the past 4 years and everyime is good. Not only do they have great service and nice rooms, but it's convenient to Hollywood, it is Hollywood, it's a stones throw away from Maan's Chinese Theater. There's tons of shopping here also that makes for visitors to have a good time. It's also close to Metro so you can get to downtown in 10 minutes which is where the sports are and other clubs and such.
Convenient and posh.
Enjoy!
Wonderful hotel. The suites are spacious and luxurious, the staff are friendly, the bar is well appointed and the location is dead in the middle of the mall. The rooms are very clean and quiet. Absolutely loved the shower!!!
The staff gets a little to friendly though when they're trying to make you a satisfied customer but for the most part they stay out of your way.
First off, I don't agree with the below poster on his review, I had a great time with great service and even paid for the hotel. Though I must admit, it is a large hotel and sometimes people get lost within the mix. However, with many previous stays at most domestic hotels, this one really beats the mix.
Its a large hotel off Highland Hollywood area, not the greatest area, but at least its active at night and a good place to walk around, but I wouldn't walk too far away from the hotel. Valet parking is expensive and we found parking around the residential areas for free for the two nights we were there. Valet is almost 30 bucks and self parking ~20.
We checked in and they were extremely efficient, pre-checking me in and offering my room. As the club lounge wasn't open, we were given two days worth of breakfast for the two people in the room as well as a coffee drink from cafe fama in the lobby. We were in a rush and the hotel does offer upgrades ($25/executive suite, $30/one-bedroom suite, $35/concierge floor and $55/studio suite) and we were give a studio suite for free, due to Marriott status and the fact that we had a room that smelled like marijuana. The room itself was gigantic, though with no partition and had an awesome view of the Highland Center arch and downtown LA as well as the pool below. The room was well appointed (it can also be described as sparse, esp for a suite) and had 2 LCDs, king bed and sitting area and dining area. Bathroom was nothing special, but then again it was a free upgrade.
We were late to dinner and they allowed us to keep the car in front of the hotel for an hour while we got ready, the manager on duty was extremely helpful. We also used the pool area, and there is no hot tub, but there's a lovely view and a lot of chairs, but it can get crowded when its nice and hot. They do provide towel service and people were there with drinks having a good time in the cabanas as well. The fitness center was small with a canvas cover for the weights area and 12 treadmill machines overlooking downtown. They also have this awesome iced water downstairs with fruit in it, perfect refreshment on a hot day.
We enjoyed our stay greatly, and I don't think that a free upgrade or being a Marriott member really made things greater. Like most posters say, its a very efficient running hotel. For the $500 a night claim by the poster below, that would be bogus because I can pay that cost to stay at the Peninsula, Four Seasons or Raffles for that price...and if it was $500, I wouldn't stay there. I would say the average price is around $200-$300, and for this location I think its pretty reasonable.
Marriott and the recession means no concierge/club lounge services on weekends now. An annoyance to people like me who like to drink their night's worth at evening receptions and enjoy the view from above. Beware if booking club floors on weekends.
A warning for people who like to run around and do stuff naked...remember to pull down your shades please. Windows here do not have any tint and EVERYTHING is viewable...so when I'm backfloating at the pool, I do not appreciate THAT kind of view!
This hotel oozes cool without trying too hard to be hip. And that, my friend, makes them hip.
The interior design is fantastic, the staff is very friendly and know what they're talking about when you ask questions, and the restrooms are gorgeous and super clean (ballroom level).
I was here the last two days for a business related conference, so although I can't speak on the rooms, I can tell you that the ballrooms where the conference was held are not your standard, run of the mill, "blah" venues. The most notable design element were the tangerine colored sheer panels cascading down from the ceiling and flowing down the walls.
The chairs were cool, too. They were leather silvery metallic colored armless chairs with a back with a bit of "give" and the seats had actual cushions (comfort is key when you're sitting & listening to a panel of speakers for hours)!
The catering was unexpectedly good as well- again, not the typical boring and mediocre conference fare. I believe Wolfgang Puck services this hotel. Usually I hate eating the conference food and the only reason I do is because it's free. The quality, taste and presentation of the food was surprisingly not what you'd expect - and that's a good thing!
I dig their fun and creative offerings, like fruit kabobs and a banana caramel pastry with fruit. I also liked that all offerings had a health conscious slant to it. Service was on-point! The servers were excellent and attentive. They filled half empty water & iced tea glasses without you having to ask.
They get an extra star for their earth friendly initiatives -for example, they used glass cups and the paper pads & pens provided for notes were made with post consumer recycled materials.
If you are planning a company or personal event here, I think you'll be thrilled, as will your guests; it's a great venue for a special event, right in the middle of the Hollywood/Highlands complex, and they seem to really know how to facilitate and organize events well.
The pool and Spa Luce area look cool & they have a great view of the city. The area is crisp white and it smells of fresh spa products. If only my company could comp a massage I would have tried 'em out! :)
TIP: If you are local and have access to the Metro Red Line, the Hollywood/Highland stop takes you literally a few steps from the hotel. Spend $1.25 one way vs. $10 to park your car (not to mention, battle the horrific traffic). That's how I roll.
This is a great place to stay for a quick little weekend in LA. It's right in downtown Hollyweird and a cab can be pretty cheap to all the hot night spots.
The only negative was the flavored water ran out in the lobby. Careless, I tell you!

Let me first preface this review by saying I did not have to pay for my stay here, so my review is purely based on principle and my personal expectations regarding what I was told is a "5 star hotel".
The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, expansive, and located right in the heart of Hollywood. The room was a single (shared by several people) and was nice, but didn't strike me as particularly special....would P. Diddy stay in this 5 star room? I think not. We were on the 13th floor and thus had a great view of the City.... So why only 2 stars, you ask?
When I am staying in a ~$500 per night single room I do expect a certain level of service and amenities to be included. At the Renaissance, amenities mean they have a bunch of extra shit available for you to purchase at inflated prices. I'm not talking about luxuries like an unlimited supply of hookers and blow (which would have been sweet), I'm talking about basics that I can get at any Holiday inn for $50 a night. Want to get on the wi-fi network? Pay more. Want to park, even without valet? Pay more.
We asked for extra blankets 4 different times over two days and received none...though they did seem willing to bring me up a fork so I could eat my Chef Boyardee ravioli cold out of the can....props to them for that, but we canceled the order at the thought of having to tip someone for a fork delivery...so who really knows if it ever would have arrived. Speaking of my Ravioli, the can and it's remaining contents (as well as other garbage) was still in the garbage can in the corner even after housekeeping had been there. Thanks for making the bed though...that's way more important than removing the garbage from the room.
The fact that after parking 20 stories below the surface of the earth, you are basically forced to walk through an entire mall of cackling, 13 year old Lindsey Lohan wannabees (who all dress like they work on Hollywood and Vine) to get to the actual hotel didn't enhance my experience either. This place is supposed to be a relaxing spa? I had to pound xanax just to make it to and from the room.
Overall, just not impressed at all with this hotel (obviously) and would never stay here if I actually had to pay for it.
Like LA itself, there's a lot of beauty on the outside hiding the desperation and emptiness lurking on the inside. Deep, I know.
One star for: Super helpful, friendly, attentive staff and for the guy who delivered my toothpaste and didn't bat an eyelash when I reached around the door awkwardly because I was in a towel.
One star for: Floor to ceiling windows in the rooms and good location for being a big fat tourist.
One star for: The illy coffee bar in the lobby. MMMmmmmmm.
If you want to feel like MXPX singing Kings of Hollywood, get a fun room at the Renaissance Hotel. It's right behind the Walk of Fame, connected to the Hollywood and Vine mall, and if you get the right room, you can dreamily gaze at the Hollywood sign all night, instead of the eyes of your loved one longingly seducing you in the oversized bed. Service is great here, and they always have the right answers and places to go. Take a walk down Hollywood and you can see...well it's a giant bizarre, from Hooters, to celebs, to clubs, to teeny boppers pan handling on the corners. Protesters take over intersections and ferrari's roar by, but you can enjoy this all from high above in the comfort of your own room.
I only hung out for the day, but I got a fair view of the place. Here's the rundown:
1. The "suite" room on the 16th floor was spacious, but oddly proportioned. Not sure why there was so much square footage devoted to the windowless bathroom alcove, or why the windows were so low-set. Made for an overall strange feeling. The view was incredible, though!
2. The fitness center was shockingly ill-equipped for LA.
3. The pool deck was gorgeous.
4. Had lunch at "Twist" on the mezzanine level. Good, but unremarkable.
5. A hotel at this level should really not make patrons pay a daily surcharge for in-room wireless, and especially not for EACH computer.
The Renaissance is my favorite hotel in Los Angeles. I first stayed here for the Labyrinth Masquerade Ball and will be staying there again this year. It's beautiful, expensive and the rooms are clean and expansive. The first time, I had a great view of Hollywood Blvd. You really feel amazing.
The hotel is connected to the Mann's Chinese theatre which is one of the classic landmarks of Los Angeles.
being a club promoter from the San Francisco Bay Area we like to come to Hollywood to party with our LA division a lot. (http://www.clubworksin...- check out our parties) and most of the time we stay at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. It's so convenient. Close to all the clubs in Hollywood, close to shopping, close to Chinese Grauman's Theater, the Walk of Fame, Kodak theater, Mel's Diner and a 24 hour Subway up the street on Highland. The service there is awesome, they're quick with all your requests and valet. My friends and I always request for a refrigerator whenever we check in for our alcohol, gatorade and food and they ALWAYS bring it right away. the pool area is right next to the spa and you can see the Hollywood sign from it. there's also a fitness center on the same level as the pool.
Love this place. it's a little bit pricey but well worth every penny!!
Just checked in today. Room is spacious, with the killer view that so many Yelpers point out.
Here's the reason it's a 3-star (so far): I went into the bathroom to freshen up after checking in, and find the complimentary lotion bottle has been used and, get this...has a pubic hair on it! Whooooooo...yuck.
The day goes by and I spend it walking around Hollywood. I come back in the evening and realize that the wastebasket near the desk had not been emptied. Hmmmm...I see an airline ticket stub in the wastebasket, and find that "Sven" was the last person to stay in the room. It may have been his pube, but I have no proof.
Then it dawns on me, as I lay down on the bed...perhaps my linens have not been changed....The more I think about it, the more I believe that housekeeping assumed Sven was staying additional nights, so the towels and bed linens were likely soiled. ooooooh, creepy.
I called the front desk, and within 20 minutes, housekeeping came up and changed everything. I watched them. Still, it was creepy enough of an experience (for the price one pays to stay here) to warrant only three stars.
I checked in yesterday to a room on the club level. We opened the door and got smacked in the face with the smell of paint. Not like the room had been painted three days ago and it was just a little lingering scent, it was more like an open can of paint was spilled on the floor right before we walked in. Ugh. Luckily the front desk immediately moved me to a king room (which I was supposed to have in the first place) a few doors down.
For the price though, this room could be a LOT nicer. It's not that big, its not like we are sleeping on a Westin Heavenly bed or something awesome like that. It's very California bright and modern, fairly comfortable. But our view is spectacular--the Hollywood sign to the left, downtown LA to the right. Special. The location is great--we met ?uestlove and saw Ed Gordon in the lobby! The shopping area outside is nice, but if you aren't familiar, don't get caught up by random people outside trying to sell you CDs, DVDs, etc. Whatever--hawk your crap elsewhere.
It is all about the location. It is right next to the Highland Center and Hollywood Blvd. We walked in to the lobby and the place is just cool looking. There is fruit water and M&M's in the lobby. The staff was super helpful in checking us in and when we got to the room I looked out the window for our view and I could see the Hollywood sign. The concierge was was wonderful and pointed us in the direction of an amazing little italian place. The day we left they were hosting the Nestle Cupcake Challenge and we snuck up there and got a ton of free yummy cupcakes. I would love to stay here again when I am in the area.
Solid hotel for the price with good location. Hotel itself is a bit dated, but they did a decent job updating the rooms and lobby. The rooms are quite which is a plus! A bit confusing geeting to the actual hotel from the parking garage and the pools is rather smallish. My main complaint was with the staff. Both days at the pool, I was awoken by security asking me for my room card. Apparantly they have problems with non-guests using the pool. You'd think they come up with a better system then waking up guests to see if they are legit. Annoying!
If you consider Hollywood and Highland a good place to be this hotel might be your spot. It's smack in the middle of many tourist spots and loads of people jam the streets around the clock. I mean this in a good way because lively is always good. It's connected to a mall, which for me is useless but it seems to be very popular. It's fairly easy to get to from multiple freeways and it rises high above the other structures around it so it stands out and it's a very attractive building.
I personally did not have a very good experience here which is why my rating is low. There would be less than two stars if it weren't for the clean and suprisingly spacious rooms. Unfortunately the staff here is deplorable. My experience from check in to check out was so bad it was comical. I was here for work for 8 nights and the price of the room was $279 per night. With that said the staff should be a little more refined. Because I travel a lot I'm a Marriot rewards member and sort of expect that I'll get just a little special treatment. Admittedly, I usually don't get that at Marriot hotels. Hhy I continue to expect it is an enigma, but I digress.
I won't go into all the gory details of this stay but the worst was when on Saturday AND Sunday morning at 7am (Yes, 7AM!) there was maintenance going on below my room that involved, scraping, hammering and drilling. When I complained about it on Saturday they insisted it didn't exist and stated they sent "someone" up to my floor and what I was hearing was doors opening and closing in other guest rooms. C'mon! I know the difference. I figured I was up so I ordered room service. When they told me it would take 45 minutes to deliver a pot of coffee I then cancelled room service.
On Sunday when the hammering, scraping, drilling started again I insisted someone come to my room. They did. This time they couldn't deny it and lie to my face so they admitted there was contruction going on in the ballroom that was below mine. They apologized and moved me to the concierge level for the remainder of my stay. And I'll toss them a bone by adding that they also left a nice fruit basket in my room complete with a bottle of wine too.
Unfortunately the quality of the service didn't get better. There were more and multiple snafus with the valet, laundry, and the concierge. Like I said, it really became comical.
I won't go back this hotel (on purpose).
The Renaissance gets 5 stars!!! Convenience, Great Customer Service, etc.
Convenience: When you party at the Highlands and you need to puke you can run in your 4 inch heels to your suite across the bridge and puke in the safety of your own room. Until everyone crashes that is.
Great Customer Service: We arrived a bit late for check in. They gave away my regular room. Hence I got a suite!!! and MANNNNN it was NIIIICCCEEEE. Also, we trashed the room. I mean trashed it. People and stuff were everywhere. Shoot. I was 21!!!!! hahaha and I wasn't hassled or sent a bill afterward.
Well there you go! I recommend the Renaissance when you're partying in Hollywood and Highland and you know you're not going to be able to drive home. :)
OK, here's the weird thing about this hotel I noticed immediately. I checked out the fitness room and it's OK albeit cramped in space. But there were two magazine stacks. The first had nothing but Newsweek in them. OK, that's fine. But the other? A stack of Cigar Aficionado rags.
That's right. A cigar magazine.....IN A GYM!
Must have those copies of Muscle and Fitness in the lobby bar.
Place itself is OK although it sucks that they don't validate Hollywood and Highland parking! Why not? So we can pay $29 for your valet lot? I don't think so! They host a lot of small to medium sized conventions here and the place has some decent food although it probably makes more sense to go over to H&H or across the street to 25 Degrees for even better stuff.
I am a bit surprised that this hotel didn't get 4s and 5s across the board. It is a very, very nice hotel and it's located in a pretty fun little retail center. You'd get bored if you didn't have a car and had to stay here for days on end, but for quick weenend jaunts to LA, this place and the Century City Hyatt are very good choices. Ask for the honeymoon suite. It's about 1,000 square feet of luxury.
This is a great hotel, and prior to me moving to LA was the only place I stayed when I was in town. Close to clubs, shopping, event venues, and restaurants it's in a killer location.
Be aware that this is the hotel used by the Academy Awards, and since it's part of the Hollywood / Highland complex it can get INSANE the week prior to the award show. It get very "star studded" though, so if you're in town to see celebrities, this is the place. Security gets pretty tight the week before the event and VERY tight the night of (make sure to carry your ID and room key card in your hand and be prepared to show them often if you're outside your room).
Overall the rooms are nice, the hotel is quiet, and the rates are reasonable (The AAA discount is worth it for hotels alone!).
Our first night at the Renaissance was pretty shitty. We got a room on the 4th floor with a fantastic view of some trash receptacles below our window. Needless to say, that really put me in the mood for a romantic vacation with my boyfriend. Then, I woke up the next morning to what sounded like a little kid jumping up and down non-stop above us. Turns out, our room was right below the swimming pool. How nice! Did I also mention that the toilet was broken? It took 15 minutes for the toilet bowl to refill after the last flush. I wish I was making this up! Talk about the hotel room from hell.
Now, here is why I gave them four stars...
Fed up, we requested a room change the next day. Without much questions asked, we were immediately moved to the 16th floor (one of the top ones) with a decent view and functional toilet. The front desk even arranged for someone to pick up our stuff so that we wouldn't have to haul it ourselves. Of course, there was an error on our bill at the end of our stay, but the front desk was not too fussy about crediting us back for the extra charge.
I can't give the Renaissance a five star rating, because I've had friendlier service at other hotels in Las Vegas. The front desk clerks just didn't seem too happy to have us there, but I have to give them credit for being accommodating. Overall, it was a mediocre hotel (decor was kind of blah), but considering the location (it's right next to a huge shopping mall and all the tourist attractions), I suppose it was one of the better options in West Hollywood.
I was not impressed, and wished I had stayed at a "W" Hotel instead. This place is a joke. They gave me a hassle about doing a cash incidental deposit, which had been prearranged. Then, they wouldn't give me access to the minibar unless I upped my cash deposit to $500-no, I'm not kidding.
There was a production crew from some reality TV show in the room adjacent to mine, and they were slamming doors and noisy ALL night.
I hung the door sign out one night for breakfast. It never came. I inquired, they said they never got the sign, and maybe it was still on the door. Seeing as though I put it out at 9pm to be picked up before 2am, it shouldn't have been still on the door, and it wasn't. They did bring my breakfast right up, and it was at no charge.
The bathroom was big, airy, and nice, and the bed was comfy. Turn down service, which is complimentary, was very nice. Request it when you go.
The whole "delighted" thing gets old.
The hotel bar, in the main lobby, made great martinis.
I wouldn't stay here again, if I had a choice. Again, get better service, and more chic factor at the "W" Hotel.
Very Nice, modern, clean and comfortable hotel right in the middle of it all in Hollywood.
Courteous staff and good housekeeping.
They could use a coffee shop for breakfast and quick meals .
The bar staff are generally rude. Better to drink in one of the nice bars in the plaza next door.
I love staying here...I would give it 5 stars but the damn parking valets pssied me off beyond belief...they have fixed the situation I think but until I am convinced they remain at 4 stars...the rooms are huge if you are Gold or Platinum on Marriott...if not sorry ...oh and the bar in the lobby is cool but negativo on not staying open very long....
By the way- this is where the American Idol Finals are...at the Kodak...
This is a fun place! It's located right beside the Kodak center and the Hollywood and Highland mall. If you're a tourist looking to explore Hollywood, this is THE place you'll want to stay.
The standard rooms are large, modern, very clean and comfortable. You'll get a wet bar, a small dining table, and a desk where you can hook up your laptop. Room service is pretty good, but outside places will deliver, and the front desk will provide you local delivery menu's after hours if you ask.
On weekends this is a very busy hotel, so it helps to book ahead (I book last minute too often). When there's an event in town, you need to book far ahead because this is the first place to fill up.
If you don't mind late night parties on your floor (it happens), and all the traffic and hustle and bustle of Hollywood, then you'll probably like this place. I've stayed there countless times, and never once had a complaint.
I stayed at this hotel recently for a company party.
Three things awesome about this place (and 4 stars):
- Great location
- Spectacular views
- Parking ($)
The view was absolutely spectacular at night and during the day. I requested for a room that would give me a view of the Hollywood sign and got it! The staff were nice. Checking in and out was easy. It's really a nice view of the sign, downtown los angeles, and walking distance from so many Hollywood landmarks (i.e. chinese mann theatre, kodak theatre), attractions (i.e. Ripley's Believe it or not), and odd shops/dining areas (i.e. Virgin).
Other than the view, the room was nice and decently clean. It was comfortably quiet. My friend got the suite, and that was just a little bit bigger than my room with some extra furniture (i.e. sofa, coffee table). I did have fun with the manual blinds and the electronic "curtain" that made it as dark as night in my room, lol!
Advice: If you're staying for the night and plan to do a lot of walking, just do self parking. It saves a bit of $. If you're stay for more than a night, Valet saves you more since I believe it's for the duration of your stay. Ask them to double check.
