I'd stay here again in a minute. I can't imagine there are many hotels better than this in the StL.

Hotel service wasn't anything special or different than what you get anywhere else. Staff doesn't go out of their way like some other chains, but they seemed proficient.

Only real hiccup was when we got in the elevator, you had to swip room key right away or elevator went dark. WTF. How is that safe? I had to use my cell phone to see where the buttons were because it was pitch black. Staff at the desk didn't see this situation as a problem. Whatever.

Rooms are very nice and you feel pampered staying in them. Had a very nice view of StL buildings at night-- almost captivating view of city around you.

Location is right in the center of the convention district with great access to rail and buses. Lacks a sense of being in a true neighborhood, but that's to be expected at any convention hotel.

Renaissance Grand is a very nice property, if not a bit anonymous in design and location, but definitely one of the nicer properties in the entire state of MO.

Chaotic registration staff didn't follow through on their promise to call us as soon as our room was ready, leaving us cooling our heels in the lobby for nearly 2 hours. Fortunately, the concierge staff were friendly. When we got to it, however, the room was nice, with high ceilings, incl bathroom and showerhead - especially tall guests would be pleased. Decent fitness room but only fair pool and mediocre hot tub, which was disappointing  The event staff at American Place (one of the onsite restaurants) was outstanding for the wedding I was attending there.

We were in town around Thanksgiving, so got a good deal. The hotel itself is great - grand architecture, very friendly staff, nice luxurious rooms, awesome beds, and clean. The Starbucks within the hotel didn't hurt at all!

Only nits: no free WiFi? Not even LANs?

3.5.    Rooms were decent size, with a desk and reading chair, the bathroom was well light, with bath toiletries by "lather'.  The TV armoire was positioned weird - you coudn't swirl the tv around to watch from the bed.

But their food could have been better.  We had meetings all day, so it was 'buffet' style breakfast, lunch and dinner...  It was a hit or miss...

This hotel is about a 20 to 30 minute cab ride from the airport. There is a train which apparently is fairly convenient so you can save yourself about $40/$45 in cab fares. The train is about $3.50 from what I'm told.
This is a fine hotel, albeit a bit impersonal. The place is big, like Las Vegas hotel big, and can be a little confusing as a result. There are two towers which means that if someone says meet on the 21st floor you have to be specific as to which 21st floor you mean. The main lobby area is HUGE with an atrium. There is also a private restaurant which is incredible. They restored all the detail and moldings and it looks like something from the 40s. It's really cool, you should make it a point to check out.
The hotel is clean and modern and the conference rooms are large and the staff is friendly and efficient. The conference rooms run on the freezing side but if you ask to have the heat turned up it warms up quickly. The food is hit or miss, I had a dinner that was not very appealing and a lunch that was delicious. The bar is spacious and the service is fast and efficient.
The fitness center is a good size. There are several treadmills and bikes. They also have free weights and a pool. The pool is tiny.
The rooms are a good size. The bathrooms are roomy. The thermostats are a bit tricky meaning you have to turn the temperature way up to warm up the room. The rooms are clean but the furniture, at least in my room, could have been updated. The desk had a significant amount of water damage.
The Wi-Fi connection speedy and you can also connect via a wire. The access is about $13 as I recall.

Check-in was easy and friendly. Everything else was marginal. This might be 4 stars if it were a La Quinta, but for the price and expensive parking, they need to improve.

Valet attendents are rude and very pushy for tips. Lurking over your shoulder more than anywhere I've seen. I almost hollered, "YES, I am going to give you something but back off while I collect my Sonic cups and gum wrappers to toss out from my road trip!"

The rooms are cozy, not very large but I prefer that. If you get a room that doesn't face the street, as I've gotten both times I've stayed here, it makes for a very dark and dreary room. The room gets no sunlight, but there's some sort of outside lighting at night, so it's the same level of brightness day and night. You don't know if it's 3 a.m. or 3 p.m. It's like being in Alaska.

Hotel bar is just plain weird. Not "classy" enough for those who wanna sip a Manhattan and relax (there were a handful of drunks) and not at all lively for those who wanna tie one on.

Bed was comfy, bathroom was spacious enough although the hairdryer didn't work properly and the floors/walls were scuffed up.

Boy oh boy, downtown STL sure is dismal. We were desperate to find somewhere to eat. Everything was closed on a Saturday night! We ended up going to back to the hotel restaurant. 7:30 p.m. and there was only one other table! It was therefore uncomfortable, pricey, and a bit institutional in food quality and decor.

Again, nothing major at $69/night, but for $150 and $23 to park, c'mon! I'll never go back. The nearby Westin is much, much better.

the staff and atmosphere was off the hook. the only single problem we experienced was one waiter at the restaurant in the hotel brought us burnt food and didn't inform me properly of exactly what i was eating so i ended up eating anchovy paste in the sauce he brought with the bread and i had searing gas pains all night (though, i didn't know why until the next time we went there to get a salad and the waitresses explained the things we were eating properly).

i had informed him i was a vegetarian, when i asked what it was and told him i didn't eat ANY meat or fish and ill make him pay dammat!!

IF YOU'RE READING THIS, SNOOTY WAITER-GUY, DON'T THINK YOU WONT PAY!

Very friendly & knowledgeable staff. Pretty, clean room. A bed that makes the one I own, well, unacceptable. One of the many reasons I didn't want to leave St. Louis.
