This Renaissance hotel is really quite nice. It's in a good location in downtown Cleveland. The parking rate is OK ($23 a day for self-parking, $28 for valet). The interior of the hotel is pretty fancy-- it's almost on par with the Ritz Carlton across the street.  The room I had was very clean and the beds were super comfortable!! I'm glad I was in a room with two queen beds. One of the beds had a few long black hairs on the bedsheets, so I slept on the clean bed.

The only problem with the hotel rooms here are the thin walls and the space underneath the hotel room door. The door isn't flush with the floor, so light from the hallway comes in. You can hear people walking around outside. Because of the thin walls,  I could hear a lot of stuff. On Fri night, I had just gotten into bed and had the light off for about 5 minutes when I heard the people next door getting it on. And I heard everything-- their entire conversation, all of the noises they were making (both verbal and physical). It was so loud that I thought it was coming from my room! So if you are a voyeur (in the audible sense), you might want to stay here.

Suck. Suck. Suck.

The only thing this place has going for it, is it's location.  For that I feel ok giving it one star.

When I stay at a fancy expensive hotel, I expect to be treated better than I am at my house.  This hotel did not do that.

1.  Small, old TV.  Not that important... just goes to show the last time this place was redone
2.  Towels were rough and hard and itchy.  Yuck!
3.  NO FREE INTERNET!  NO WIRELESS AT ALL!!!!!  Only pay $6 or something a day wired internet was available.  Holiday Inn doesn't even rape people like this anymore.
4.  Adjacent parking garage is $23 a day.  Do yourself a favor and find a nearby $5 lot.  $23 a day for a crappy little garage that again... looked like it hadn't been cared for in about 20 years
5.  Interior of the lobby was pretty, but again, looked old and tired to me.  Almost like a Ritz Carlton that hadn't been cared for or cleaned in 15 years.
6.  They have "valet" for the parking garage.  But that entails pulling up, then running inside and waiting at the front desk for someone to park your car for you.  We got fed up and just parking it ourselves.

So yes.  I would have stayed at a Days Inn over this place, anyday of the week.

Boo Renaissance.

HONESTLY, this place deserves to be a 2 star hotel.
Just based on its location alone :)

This historic hotel in the heart of Cleveland has a lot going for it.  The lobby is knock-out beautiful, you don't have to leave the building to get on the RTA, its a close walk to many attractions, and it has great conference facilities.

I recently stayed here for a week attending a National Conference.  The hotel staff was welcoming - check in/out was a breeze and the meals served were overall excellent (a lot of chicken - but everybody likes chicken, so what are you going to do?).

My queen-bed room was lovely - lots of great goodies (shampoo, etc...) awaited me, the bedding was soft, warm, and clean, the Internet was fast and the room layout and size was fantastic.  You do have to pay for corded Internet in your room (WiFi does not exist).  It is $13/day - but includes all local and long distance calling (but who needs that, really - its 2007!)

I think that the hotel had recently been updated - but several key elements were weird.  In such a nice room and bathroom why a toilet that looks and flushes like you are at a football game?  Why do the bathroom fixtures look and feel outdated?

My biggest complaint was the wake-up call service.  Generally, you call down to the front desk for a wake-up call and they input you in the computer and you get an automated call.  Other times a real live person calls you.  Usually this call occurs as exactly (give or take three minutes) the time you requested.  NOT at the Renaissance Cleveland!  Both of the times that I requested a wake up CALL a person came to my room and knocked a full 15 or 30  minutes AFTER I requested the call.  Thank goodness I was already up and going or I would have been significantly late!

As I said, the location is great and the hotel details are cool - I probably wouldn't pay to stay here myself but if someone else put me up, I wouldn't cry about it!

I stayed here for a bachelorette party that I threw this weekend for my best friend. I chose this place based on the many suggestion of the awesome Cleveland Yelpers. Thanks to a helpful mother-in-law-to-be our rooms were comped through numerous points. When we checked in there, we got a huge surprise with a room upgrade. We got a tricked out suite with a wet bar, gorgeous bathroom, and dining area. The room was spectacular!! The hotel is just as beautiful as described by website.  Also, the hotel was so close to the warehouse district that cabs probably weren't necessary, but fun anyway. My only problem with the place is the parking deck. It's the narrowest, weirdest shaped one ever. We were afraid of hitting cars and damaging our own. Otherwise, it's a great hotel.

I was at this hotel the weekend of June 9th for a wedding - reception in the hotel - and was SUPER impressed.  My room was terrific and the housekeeping service wonderful.  The front desk staff was extremely accomodating and pleasant.  I will definitely stay here the next time I need a hotel room in Cleveland.  (Especially nice since I had a bad experience at the downtown Boston Renaissance a few years ago with rude staff and horrible service.)  Marriott, Cleveland redeemed you!

Thank you!

Home again home again jiggity jig
So my latest biz trip brought me back to where I am from(cue Bussom Buddies theme song).  You get a different point of view when staying as nice a hotel as this. You are treated like a guest and no more so than Cleveland. This hotel is in a great location for eats, drinks and transportation. Downtown has vastly improved  with shopping, restaurants, sports and pubs.
The hotel has been here a long time. Parking is fairly inexpensive. The rooms vary in size. Some can be quite small. This trip I booked a small suite. I was hosting a small gathering of family. Wellll, dad is oldest of 12 and a small gathering is 40 people. As Keith Y said. They just kept coming. The room was very nice. It has modern amenities with an old world feel. The meeting room area is cozy with large rooms. A walk down the hall with named meeting rooms and accompanying pictures. Is a walk into Cleveland's past. The names that brought this city to prominence. OK joke about the river burning if you must.
So what's close you say. There is the Warehouse Dist with its many night clubs, steak houses, and pubs, Theaters, Sports stadiums, E4Th with its comedy club, lounges, HoB, an Iron Chef owned restaurant, Rock Hall of Fame, Science Museum, oh and the Love stamp art work. That is all withing walking distance even in winter. Did i mention shopping sorry.  Out the door and down the hall you enter Terminal Tower and its first floors, Tower City, shopping. Convenient location to the highways and light rail to the airport.

I like it here. Plenty of great places to walk over and eat at. This location is great.

The hotel has alot of charming factors, it's old, it's a bit fancy, and it's employees are all really friendly. The only down sides are; the city noises , the loud AC unit in the room, and the lack of TV channels. Comedy Central and SciFi are cultural essentials!

There is a pretty decent looking restaurant which posted a well handled menu in the lobby.

The best is the doorknob menu. Leave it out by 2 am and select what you want and *when* delivered for breakfast.  Probably an industry standard somewhere, but I think I'll try it tomorrow.
