Eating seafood at Remington's is like opening a gift on Christmas morning, wrapped in plain brown paper, only to find a diamond encrusted Rolex waiting inside.

I gotta tell ya, I've passed 'em by a jillion times on my way to more trendier spots in Addison. But on a recent Friday night, after deciding that the hour wait for Nate's was a bit too much, I moseyed on over to Remington's to finally give 'em a shot. No one I know had ever recommended them, but I had read good reviews once or twice. I wasn't disappointed.

The place needs a makeover. That's for sure, as the decor is very understated and maybe a liitle dated. But that's just the Gen-X'er in me coming out. The 50-somethings populating the majority of tables on this Friday Evening likely never give it a second thought.. Remington's maintains a regular base to be envied. Pockets seem to be of the deep variety.

To the menu ------ I ordered off the enormous chalk board containing the day's specials, which were based on that day's catch, freshly flown in. Horseradish-encrusted Halibut with Spinach and hush puppies. A friend got a crabcake. Another got the pecan-crusted catfish. Everything was preceded by generous baskets of chewy bread and butter, and a side of the house cole-slaw. As cole-slaw goes, I thought it was tasty for a vinegar based slaw, but a couple of others left it untouched.

The fish was immaculate. Just the right firm and flakiness, and just the right temp off the grill. Halibut is one of my favorite fish, and the flavor was super-fresh and non-fishy. The layer of horseradish topping was not overwhelming, but presented in just the right amount with a light brown toastyness to it. The hushpuppies were a little on the ordinary side. I would love to see those burned a little bit better, and with more of a gnarly, country texture. The steamed and buttered spinach was done right. Not too wilted, and not too crisp, with a good balance of butter along with.

The pecan-crusted catfish was superb and really crispy. When they say "encrusted", they mean ENCRUSTED. It was fun pulling bits of catfish apart with some of the delicious and crispy crust and chopped kernels of pecan clinging to every morsel. It was excellent. Crabcakes were exceptional too. No Krab here folks. These are the real deal, but you must like the breaded kind. These are not New Orleans style, but they are deelishuss.

A slice of Key Lime pie was the topper. It too was just right. The traditional crust was laced with toasted coconut for a pleasant twist. Awesome with my cup of hot and strong coffee to round out the evening.

From beginning to end, we were met with friendliness. Our waiter was not doting, but efficient, the kind who fills your glass when you don't even know or see it. He did not browbeat us, and had good timing throughout the evening, with a detailed knowledge of the extensive specials menu and effective spot-on recommendations. The service was fast despite it being a relatively busy weekend night.

Hey! It's not the pizazz of Oceanaire, but Remington's delivers taste to rival the best. I can now say I've been, and I enjoyed it immensely.

I went here with a friend two or three days ago.
We loved the intimate atmosphere (it was fairly empty at 2 in the afternoon). He had the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and Scallops and I had the Sesame Crusted Salmon salad.
My salmon was a tad dry and the salad HUGE-the lime cilantro dressing was the perfect combination and made up for the dryness.
His scallops were yummy (he only let me have one).. He offered shrimp, but I am not too big of a shrimp fan.

The service was ok. I think he avoided us because we were doing the 'holding hands across the table and talking quietly' thing... I can see how two happy to be together people might make someone uncomfortable.

We had Creme Brulee and martinis for desert. Awesome. All in all a pleasant way to spend two or three hours enjoying anothers company...

First off, kudos for the distant name change from Oyster's to Remington's Seafood Grill!  My dislike of oysters may have kept me from crossing this fine restaurant's threshold - or at least coloring my view of an otherwise excellent meal.

The food is excellent!  Order from the daily specials for the best treats.  I had the grilled talapia - it was some of the best fishy-fishy from any brook I've had in quite a while.

My date had a very nice cedar plank salmon (at least I think that's what it was!).  It was quite good - and this coming from a confirmed salmon disliker...

The place doesn't have incredible ambiance - just solid food.  And those dining were mostly an older crowd - don't come here looking for a Who's Who among the younger set or for a place to hook up (unless you prefer an older - uh, more experienced - field and, perhaps, don't mind dentures!).

The evening's floor show/comic-relief moment came courtesy of our waiter.  He steered me away from a couple of dishes I'd have probably like a bunch, giving me a frown and dismissing more than one offering as "too fishy."  It' is, after all, a SEAFOOD RESTAURANT - what exactly did he expect?

So, Remington's is a solid go for the food - with patient forgiveness for the decor and the understanding you probably won't find a "hunk" (or "hunkess") here...

We orginially had reservations for Maggiano's but decided to cancel and go here instead.
I'm glad I did.
Nice, cozy, and quiet we were seated immediately. I had the Atlantic salmon with the pilaf rice. They also gave me two small hushpuppies and everything was delicious.
The salmon was baked and quite fresh. So, that made me pretty happy.
I had a bite of my husband's chicken piccata and I really liked that one too.
Oh, I forgot to mention I had a bowl of their clam chowder and it was pretty good but for some reason there was jalepenos in it and that wasn't flying with me.
And their coleslaw was bland and tasteless.
But overall I had a nice dinner and good service.

There are few foods in the world I crave more than shrimp (and its evil cousin, the delectable prawn).  When said craving hits, pray that you're safely miles away from my path.

Must.  Eat.  Shrimps.

Remington's has been on my list of to-trys in Addison for a good while, and with parents (and more importantly, parents' wallet) in tow, we were at the doors 5 minutes before opening time.

I wish I'd asked for the manager's name, but he was funny and casual, pointing out the awesomely large puffer fish in the salt water tank by the doorway.  The interior is small and limitedly decorated, but I don't make a big deal about interiors unless I'm at the Grand Lux. (its like the Titanic!)

Seated beneath a huge chalkboard listing the days specials (1 &1/4 maine lobster with sides for $21.99, FYI) we decided on the sesame shrimp appetizer.  Decent, but with only 3 normal-sized shrimp, it fell vastly short of satisfying our party of 4.

Remington's suffers from limited sides not listed on the menu that appear to rotate on any given night.  My broccoli was ok, although I would have appreciated more choices.  Main courses for the table ranged from salmon to stuffed fish, stuffed shrimp, (guess who) and rainbow trout.  All were appropriately seasoned and textured, and soon there were clean plates all around.

No dessert this time, but I can speak for the Sonoma Salad, which is offered in addition to one side with most seafood entrees.  Blue cheese, candied pecans, field greens and delicate balsamic vinegarette....very tasty!

Plates are $11-30 and reasonable (not that I paid).  The menu includes pastas, a variety of specials, and some land-crawlers as well (including fillet mignon topped with crap and shrimp).  I can name better seafood places, but this one stands well above chains.  With improved service and a little atmosphere, Remington's will have many happy customers.  I'll be back!

Excellent!  Not overpriced and some good fresh old fashioned seafood.  It's not fancy, just simple, well prepared and a great old school feel.  We'll be back.  You won't spend 300 bucks for 2 in this place.
