Had another excellent made from scratch pizza here last night. I can't say much more than I've said before... Excellent food, service, long time staff on board. If you don't like the food here you simply don't like Italian food.

Review from Jake K.
We met my wife's friend here who she hadn't seen in several years after she raved about how good this place was. Seeing the banners of it's accolades from the local paper put me at ease a bit after reading the orange head review of roaches in the place.
A quick breakdown of the food:
Pizza - thicker than I'd care for (I'm a NY style thin crust guy) but still tasty and chewy if you're into that type of crust. Sauce is a bit thin but made fresh so there's plenty of flavor that doesn't required a drenching. Pepperoni and sausage are made there which were surprisingly good.
Spaghetti - Garlic galore. Huge portion. Enough to feed 3-4 people with normal portions.
Greek salad (personal version) - Enough to feed 2-3 people. No kidding, I swore there was a package of feta that went into this thing. Love the pepperocinis though.
Overall a solid experience. I would come back again - but not to eat the pizza since I like more toppings than crust.
As for the roaches, no sign of them. Period. I suspect a troll since they put the same comment up on Foursquare and only had a couple of places they've checked into. -

This place is terrible. My husband and I came here maybe 2 years ago for dinner. To be safe, I ordered spaghetti because let's be honest "how can you mess up spaghetti?" Well you can obviously. My husband order pasta with clam sauce. We waited an hour for our food, which would have been fine if they were actually busy but we were THE only people in the restaurant at the time give or take another couple. My spaghetti was terrible, truly awful. I can't even explain the taste, but I hope I never taste it again. It probably was on the verge of rancid. My husband's dish was literally pasta with clams from a can poured over top. Neither of us could even get through the meal. We hardly ever complain, but the food was completely inedible. The waitress was nice enough to take both the meals off our bill. My husband wants to go again because everyone says how great the food is, he assumes we must have showed up on a bad night - but I can't imagine how food could get THAT bad in one night. We might go again and if we do, I'll be sure to update - but I'm not rushing to go there anytime soon.

I don't know about the pizza, maybe I should have tried that first.
Our first visit was at least 7 years ago... We moved to Norfolk 10 years ago and have been looking for a GOOD Italian restaurant.. Well Regino's it NOT it.. I don't know what people are raving about. (other than their generous portions) It tasted as if someone dropped garlic in the sauce by mound fulls.... After someone telling us they new the owner and how good the pizza was we thought we would try it again. Thought maybe it was just an off day the first time. Well we went about 2 yrs ago and that same awful garlic taste that is not very tasty.. I am half Italian an use garlic all the time... Never has my food tasted like that... Maybe we should have just tried the Pizza..... Sorry I will not be trying it again... -

If you've ever wondered what pizza hut would look like with a bar in the middle, look no further than Regino's Italian Restaurant in Norfolk, VA.
Probably not the first place I would have stopped at to grab lunch if I were just driving by, but thanks to Yelp, I made the drive to check out their pizza.
I was actually intending to have lunch here yesterday, as I was waiting to pick up my manager from the airport. I figured he had missed lunch so I was looking for something in close proximity. Fortunately for me, I did call the place to see if they served lunch, and got the recorded message which announced the restaurant was closed on Tuesdays. So heads up if its Tuesday.
Unimpressive from the outside, and the interior decor isn't much better. But the service was satisfactory, and the pizza was certainly worth the trip. Everything was thick. Fresh mozz and tomato slices were thick. Pizza crust was chewy and thick. The sauce I requested to dip my crust ends was flavorful and.... thick. Can you guess what the slices of garlic bread with cheese were? Yep.... garlicky and thick.
And after eating that pizza for lunch, I too am feeling rather THICK. -

Ordinarily, when I'm at a restaurant and I've just finished cleaning my plate, they ask me "Do you want any dessert?". Regino's is no ordinary restaurant, though, so I had to bring dessert up myself.
That's not a knock on the service, it's a reflection of the large servings of rich delicious food Regino's serves up. I told my waitress, "Shame I'm way too full to try any dessert, I'll bet it's great." Her response was "Yeah, we don't sell many desserts."
Of course, if I'd known the order of sausage I got as an appetizer would be more than enough to make a full meal (to say nothing of the basket of steaming warm bread)... who am I kidding, it said "home-made Italian sausage" on the menu, of course I was going to order it. And glad I was that I did: the sausage they make is wonderfully seasoned, packed with flavor, and has a casing with a delightful snap to it.
Spoiled for choice by the menu (it gave me the opportunity to order scallop alfredo!) I panicked and picked lasagna. "Lasagna?" I asked myself after I'd ordered, "why'd I order that? I can make it at home."
Of course, while I can make lasagna at home, I can't make it like they do at Regino's. Start with the noodles: I'd be using generic brand noodles from a box, not the thick slabs of eggy homemade noodle goodness that Regino's has. I might make my lasagna with meat, maybe even sausage, but that would be generic store brand too, not more of Regino's homemade sausage. So while I could make an ok generic lasagna at home, it wouldn't be like Regino's lasagna.
Long story short: I ate more than I should have at Regino's, and it tasted great! -

First off, I'd like to thank Joe D for the background history of this place. It was enjoyable to read and was the deciding factor in going here for lunch today.
Lunch runs from 11am to 4pm and there are daily lunch specials as well as an extensive lunch menu. I wanted to keep it simple on my first visit, so I ordered a 10" pizza with bacon and spinach. I figured if they can get this right then I'll come back with family some day for dinner. Well, they hit the pizza out of the park. The crust was thick but airy, with a nice crispness on the bottom. And the size was much bigger then the advertised 10". I ended up taking half of it back to the office for later.
I will definitely be back for another lunch or maybe dinner. I asked, and they told me that they make their own pasta, sauce, sausage, etc, so this is the real deal. The location is sketchy, in an old Pizza Hut in not the nicest part of town, but go inside and try it anyway.
Oh, and they are closed on Tuesdays.Listed in: Reliable Lunch Spots

I've only been here once so judge this review for whatever it's worth to you. The place on the outside looks old and not very appealing. I'm not from Norfolk, so a lot of the areas here don't look too exciting. I'm from CA where we have an abundant choices of cuisine. Anyway, I found this place as a last minute choice given the time and only had a limited amount of establishments to eat at during the 8-9pm hour. It seems many places in VA close early.
We walked in when there was approximately a 10 person dinner party about to end a birthday celebration. They were also about 30 minutes from closing, but kind enough to take our order and let us enjoy our meal.
I ordered the chicken slovak. It was chicken breasts marinated in a tangy flavorful sauce served with pasta. It also came with a dinner salad that was decently sized. The portion was HUGE! I could have divided it into 3 separate meals. If you like garlicy food with tons of flavor, this is great. It's great for sharing because it honestly is a huge portion. I forget the price, but it was pretty reasonable.
The person I was with ordered the steamed clams in a spicy marinara sauce on a bed of pasta. That dish too was enormous. Neither one of us could finish our meal. I had a taste and the clams were flavorful.
These were the only dishes I tried, but to me they were very good and price was awesome. If this place were in Ca, I would give it a 4, but given the choices in Norfolk, it deserves a 5. -

I absolutely LOVE Regino's! I lived right down the street from it a couple years ago and my ex husband and I stumbled upon it one evening. I had fettuccine alfredo, it was the BEST fettuccine I've EVER had! I've tried their pizza, calamari, and so many other delicious entrees and appetizers at their restaurant. I moved away in 2007 and I missed this restaurant terribly! But now I've moved back and I can't wait to go there again! YUM YUM!!

OMG! How awful. I remembered the old Regino's and how wonderful it used to be, so while in town for the weekend we ate there Friday night. We had important company with us, and I was hoping that the food would out do the odd old lady smell the restaurant had when we entered. But worse, there were roaches!! Everywhere!! Disgusting. One was crawling on the wall next to my purse. Mortified but trying to hide it from our guest, I tried to brush it away, but saw another immediately, and it was trying to crawl inside my purse, so I crushed it. It took everything I had not to scream. There was another on the curtain, and I pointed it out to the waitress, who just said , "oh yeah, we've sort of had a problem." YOU THINK?! It fell on to our table top as we were leaving. I cannot imagine how awful the problem is if they are so rampant with the lights on.
The food was no good either. The sauce tasted like the bottom of the pot that had been a little burnt. Yuck. So embarrassed that we took our guest here. They have disgraced the Regino's name. Do not ever eat here. FILTHY.
