I like the fact that I can purchase tickets at the ticketing machines. Then why do I not give more than 3 stars?
- The employee there cutting tickets was not kind. He was like "pick up a 3D glasses in the box over there!"
- Theaters are small.
My local old AMC theater is better! :P
Just watched Avatar here in 3D. I've been a few times, and generally, movies tend to sell out very early -more so that most theaters, so its worth it to buy ahead of time. It's a popular area, so it comes as no surprise, but get there earlier than you normally would elsewhere, because its almost a given that it will be packed.
Luckily, most theaters have a second level balcony, and many people don't go up there -probably because they don't know it exists. I was stuck in the 3rd row before avatar - my glasses on and ready - when I realized, and I ran up there and got great seats.

Alright it's not the greatest theatre. It's a given that everything from tickets to concessions costs too much. They hire children and most of the time there's only one of them working the concession stand with a line backed up to the door. Thing is: they show good films, the seating and visibility is always good, and there are even some theatres with balcony seating. I've seen probably 50 movies here. I have a Regal Crown club card (it's free) and every time I turn around I'm getting coupons for a free drink or popcorn. I braved the midnight premier of Harry Potter and they managed to make the whole affair surprisingly painless. They show the big mainstream films, and if you have to see one it might as well be here.
Some theaters are nice, others are very substandard.
They do not offer military discounts, shame on them.
I read the reviews about rodent infestation and rude workers but still decided to hit up this theater last weekend. I didn't see any rats and the customer service wasn't any different than what I have come to expect in New York. The only issue I had with this place is the theatre I was in did not have stadium seating. That's a deal breaker for me so I'll stick with AMC Loew's 34th St as my go-to theatre for Blockbuster films.
I just really want to tell you that you have really amazing nachos and cheese.
Yours,
A girl that appreciates a good nacho
I vowed to myself that I was not going to Yelp any non-restaurant establishments unless it was so fantastic I had to tell everyone about it or it sucked so much I had to warn everyone about it. Well, this movie theater is the latter. Mark my words, I will never, ever return here ever again. This theater can single handedly define the phrase "a hot mess", in every possible way. The service sucks, the theater is dingy (granted that they are undergoing construction but at least section that area off) and extremely disorganized.
I get that it's in Union Square, a popular area, so it's going to be crowded but get it together! The AMC in Times Square is popular as well and they know how to run a theater. Thank goodness I purchased my tickets on Fandango so I didn't have to wait on that mess of a line. Well, I wouldn't call what they have there lines, it's more like a mob of people crowding around the kiosks. HOT MESS.
I go up the escalators and there was another mob of people waiting to get into the theater room showing my movie. The guy who was in charge of organizing the crowd for that room was screaming and howling at the crowd to get in a non-existent line. I felt like I was in a chain gang. I know it can be a stressful situation trying to manage a line (sarcasm), but people PAY to watch movies to enjoy and de-stress themselves, not to be herded like animals and screamed at.
Nevertheless, avoid this theater at all costs. And if you must go here because someone is holding a gun to your head, use Fandango.
I've seen plenty of movies here, and never had any problems. It's a big, nice, modern theater that I would be happy to return to. That's what that extra bonus star you see up there is for. That's what's keeping it from just one star because of the spectacular levels of suck that this place rose to the last time I went.
See, the entire block around the theater seems to have gone out of business. Gone are the giant Circuit City and Virgin Mega Store. And in there place, is a lot of construction. A lot of really LOUD construction. And believe you me, there are few things that will take you out of a movie quite like the constant pounding of a jackhammer. But since it wasn't *entirely* constant, we stayed, watched the movie, and at the end of it all decided it was time to complain.
(Side note: The theater itself was undergoing renovations at the time, but they were not to blame for the jackhammering. They might however be to blame for leaving their walls open, and letting the GIANT MICE run around their theater.)
We got to the ticket booth and started talking to the manager. This was around the time we noticed a line forming behind us. Not the ticket line, but a complaint line. Hmmm... weird, looks like NO ONE appreciates construction noise during a movie. How odd.
The conversation went something like this:
My Girlfriend (who I let do all the arguing for me because she's way more badass (what? (don't judge (shut up))): We want our money back.
Manager: No, I can't do that. You sat through the whole movie, I can only give you a voucher for a free movie in the future.
My Girlfriend: No. I want a refund.
Manager: OK.
See what I mean about her being a master negotiator?
So then we go to the cashier who will process the refund, who decides she needs to show major attitude and refuse to do it. DESPITE THE FACT THAT HER MANAGER WAS STANDING RIGHT OVER HER.
Horrible Ticketing Woman: I ain't doing this.
Manager: Do it.
Horrible Ticketing Woman: Ok, but just for these people.
Guess the manager is a pretty strong negotiator too. So that was that. Us and another group got refunds but everyone in line behind us only got vouchers. Not really sure the logic behind that... but whatever.
Why the theater decided to show movies while the construction was going on is beyond me. Why they thought they could get away with not refunding people is beyond me. But hey, what do I know? I was dumb enough to think it was ok to sit through the whole movie.
I wasn't aware this place had rats, came to see Sherlock Holmes and snuck into avatar 3d. Seating was comfy but screens seemed small. climate was good in here not too hot or cold. Popcorn line and soda was easy too. I don't mind this place, Id come back. I love its location. Feels like a true NY theater.
I've been going to the Union Square Regal regularly to catch movies and it's become a reliable spot for me and my friends. The bathrooms are much improved from years ago and the theater seating is comfy. They do a decent job of keeping the theater clean after each screening.

Mice and I dont mean the cute disney talking ones--omnipresent. This is new york--but I had one climbing on the wall near me and later in the movie-climbed over my lap.
Childhood memories of my pet hamsters kept me from convulsions.
I have emailed Regal twice-not expecting anything-just to inform them-and they have failed to reply.
Other than that-it is a big old movie house with unimaginative food-moderately clean theaters and bathrooms and comfortable stadium seating.
Ticket kiosks work randomly-I think I was charged twice for James Bond last year-so always check ur bank/credit card statements.
So-ok theater-somewhat poorly run conveniently located showing all the lastest flicks.
This theater is in a great location. Being right by a major subway station makes it great meeting place and it's near great food and bars in nearby E. Village. It has large stadium seating and was clean when I was there.
So why the poor review?
[WARNING --- RANT BELOW]
Waiting to see Public Enemies, the audience is lined up outside the theater gestapo style.
Why?
To have an theater employee beg, plead, cajole you into giving money. Money for what? A charity that is never clearly defined. She mentioned homeless kids, smoking , heart disease, AMA and Will Rogers. At one point she even says "please don't say no". They then walk up to each person in line and ask for money.
SERIOUSLY??
After paying $12.50 for a movie, charging exorbitant prices at the concession stand, they have nerve to try to guilt movie goers into giving money.
FUCK THAT!!
If they were so concerned about charity why not donate a portion of ticket sales or concession to charity?
I thought it was a vile, and tasteless move.
if you go, be prepared for the shake down.
I always feel like a rat in a trap in this place. I will be the first to say, I think all theaters are pretty crappy in the grander scheme.
One Star - seats are comfortable
Half Star - ticket pick up machines work, most of the time, except when you are running late and they never work
One Star - the movies play
Yeah and no more stars for you, in a capitalist competitive country, it still BLOWS MY MIND how much you pay for soda and popcorn at these anti-competitive oligopolies. It really is outrageous. I am all for smuggling whatever you want in, or slipping into whichever movie you want once you pass the ticket dude, and to hell with the Policy!
Stadium seating-style theater just south of Union Square, this movie theater is decently spaced, and with plenty of ticket kiosks up front, this is the place to catch the most recent blockbusters. It doesn't show much in the way of smaller films, though, and can be packed with the students from the local NYU buildings... sound is fine, no serious issues with any of the movies I've watched here.
Escalators take you to the various floors, only gripe is that it always feels like the carpet is suctioning to my feet with all the oil/butter people drop all over...
Rats, mice, rodents, rodents, rodents. Some of the theaters here have major rodent infestation problems. I can't possibly see how they pass inspections. Maybe they get an exemption? Even New York Mag commented on this theaters rodent problem http://bit.ly/6qJk75
However, this theater is conveniently located. So if you go, keep your feet up and don't go see quiet films. I saw No Country for Old Men here in the late evening and the long, quiet scenes and lack of soundtrack were like a clarion call to all the city's rodentia. It was hard to concentrate on the movie when I had Ratatouille being acting out in the seats next to me. I still go here, but know enough to put my feet up when I hear the popcorn rustlin'.
Conveniently located in Union Square, don't think your going to see anything that is going to be nominated for an Academy Award this year.
Which is why after spending two weekends in a row watching the worst movies I've seen in the last 5 years, I know I won't be returning anytime soon. Star Trek almost made my poor eyeballs bleed from being painfully overstimulated for two hours of pure hell - but worst then that was the massacre I witnessed Saturday night.
Angels and Demon's the novel has been beloved by me for years now, so I was overjoyed to hear about the movie. Actually seeing CERN, the famed artwork of Bernini, and the Vatican all on one screen mixed in with Dan Brown's page turning plot - how could this movie not be amazing?
I'll tell you how: because I doubt that the writers or Ron Howard did anything but skim through reading any of the 600 page novel. From the first scene you instantly realize they removed about 200 pages out of the story and from then on it continues on completely the wrong path. Prepare to be seriously disappointed......
It should be marketed as- Angel's & Demons: Very loosely based(with nothing being the same except for the names of characters and locations) on the novel Angel's & Demons.
I often imagined while watching this garbage Ron Howard taking an ax and continuously hacking on the red paperback novel, randomly choosing lines and scenes from strewn around pieces of parchment.
Unfortunately, this is the sort of trash you'll find at this theater and although I enjoy the comfy seats and movable armrests - I've realized they only help me become more comfortable as I doze off through each of these ridiculous movies.
The people who work here tend to ignore customers and be a bit rude. That's why there are ticket kiosks! Get there early if you want to get some overpriced concessions. If you get ice cream, they will not give you a spoon unless you ask, and you bet that it's one of those wooden ones from yore. Try not to get splinters in your mouth as you struggle to find a seat.
Overall, it's a place of convenience. It's got tons of screening times, plenty of options, comfortable stadium seating, and neat escalators for the motivationally-challenged. I've never had a bad experience here, but never a great one either. It does what it's supposed to -- nothing more, nothing less.
No gripes about this theater other than the fact that nyc ticket prices are pretty steep. We got stuck in the second row during out movies' opening weekend, but overall nothing particularly bad or great.
I really like this theatre. I was on a date with my boyfriend and we went to see Wild Things. I loved it! The theatre was nice, clean, and the chairs were really comfortable. We sat in the balcony and I was impressed by the sound quality. Overall, if a movie is playing and I am in the hood. This would be my place to go.
Let's see. I've seen No Country For Old Men and Up in 3-D at this theater...twice. I will try not to let the awesomeness of those movies clolud my judgment of the theater, but no promises.
I really like this theater. The high ceilings and wide escalators keep it from feeling overcrowded, and everything feels nice and accessible. Shows do tend to sell out as the theater is pretty central, but a little planning and Fandango take care of that. Seats are comfortable and concessions are plenty.
My only complaint is that there seems to be no logic in the numbering of the theaters. Isn't the point of numbering them to make things easier on people? Maybe there's a larger scheme that I'm not seeing, but I'd rather Regal limited the thought provocation to its screens.
These days I rarely go to the movies unless there is something out that I DESPERATELY want to see & this time I actually regretted going into the city to do so.
As we walked into the theater and sat down the smell of urine and some other hard to describe odors slowly floated up to my nostrils and then after twenty minutes of sitting down I saw something running across the floor through the corner of my eye and it was one of NYC's many rodents coming in from the cold.
Not only did I see one but then another walking up the stairs & crawling under someone's feet. As we were sitting there before the movie started I had to say something to the attendant to clean up the popcorn from the seats behind us.
I will NOT be going back to that theater ever again!
Yikes.
Went here to see an afternoon movie this weekend and stumbled into the land of scary, crazy people. I swear, half the people in the theater were high. The attendants actually had to remove someone from the screening room.
I will not be back to this unlovely spot.
One of my favorite movie theaters.
Why? Because its a pretty big one (in comparison to most other theaters in the area), so the chances of the movie you have been wanting to see playing there are rather great. It's located in the heart of union square, one of my favorite places in the city: so you can drop in after dinner, shopping, or just hanging out in the park. The seating in the theaters are sloping, so your view of the screen won't be blocked by a 6'5" person who happens to sit in front of you. The prices are the same as any other movie theater you'd find in the city.
The only downfall is that since it is in union square, it does sell tickets pretty quick. Grab your tickets before you get dinner, then return to the theater for your show.
We came here to see Wolverine. I was quite disappointed. Not in the movie, but in the theatre! In this day and age it really is unacceptable to not have stadium seating. That should simply be a standard. What's worse is that this theatre almost has the reverse of stadium seating!! Where we were seated (not in the front row, but in the series of seats that constitute the front of the theatre, in the very last row of them) I swear the seat in front of us was ABOVE us. If I looked straight ahead all I saw was seat back. I have in the past arrived late for a movie and was stuck all the way in front, and even that wasn't as neck bending as these seats!!! Again, we WERE NOT near the front row!! I can't imagine what the seats behind us were like since there is a balcony overhead. I would wager that the top quarter of the screen isn't visible from back there!
Speaking off that balcony, it appeared as if they only opened it up AFTER the bottom filled up. TOTALLY lame because from what we could tell, THAT was the place to be. So in other words we got there early for good seats, when in all actuality we should have been the last ones in in order to obtain those seats!! GRR!! Will NOT return to this theatre. Why does it seem so damned hard to find a GOOD theatre in NEW YORK CITY of all places!!!!
BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!! I saw a movie in theatre 13 on wednesday 9/2/09. The next morning I woke up covered in red welts over my back, arms and elbows. Not knowing what was wrong I went to see a doctor , then spoke to the friend I was with and she had the same bites.!.....a couple days later we ran into another friend of ours who had been to the same movie and had the same pattern of bites. We reported to the management and they offered us two movie tickets!!!!! Really , I am so traumatized I don't know if I will ever go to a movie again. It has been a week and although they are healing I still have red welts Everywhere!!!!!!! If you get these things in your home It could cost thousands of $$$$$ to get rid of them .... not to mention the mental anguish of being bitten while your sleeping every night . I feel like the management is not taking this situation seriously , as they admitted to having this problem last month and the action they took was to remove a few of the seats .
PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!!!!!
Recommended for: Watching movies.
Seating 4, Sound 4, Experience 4.
This is the theater that broke my NYC movie cherry... well, not my initial one, but the one I developed for just getting tired of going to movie theaters. My friends and I have gone here many a time and each time have a riot (probably do to our silliness than the movies themselves).
Seating is fantastic. Large high chairs in stadium seating ensure that no one, not even in a Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat type hat will disturb your viewing pleasure. Sound system is top notch allowing all the sounds, regardless of the laughter, booing and shouting.
Of course movies are better with the company that you keep, so make sure to go with your group and have a ball. This theater isn't as strict when it comes to checking bags for food and drink, which is great for someone always on the go like me who just happened to stop by to grab something to eat 5 minutes before the movie was about to start.
Great location near shops, restaurants, bars and trains. Its definitely more convenient than others no matter what time of the day.
Sean Approved: Definitely Yes!
Great location. Plenty of theaters and movie offerings. I go to this movie theater more often than the one on 19th Street and Broadway (the one north of ABC Carpet). Spacious seating and relatively clean. The staff clean up after the theater after each movie. Plenty of space to hang around before the movie start but not a whole lot of seating for waiting.
The price for popcorn and soda are crazy expensive! At times there is a long line to get your tickets but they have fandango machines and even those have lines too.
The people who worked there were nice and seemed to not hate their job.
Then again, maybe, like everyone else in this crummy economy, they're just thankful they still have their jobs.
But the people seem nice. I saw Bolt 3-D here, which was fun and quite an experience. I've also seen Revolutionary Road here, which was less fun as film.
Besides the slightly maze-like interior (had trouble finding our theater, which was tucked away in some unmarked corner), the concessions workers were nice even though they took forever with my popcorn.
it is everything you would expect an average cinema to be, haha, namely screen is about the right size, seats are ok, sound is good. It smells like a cinema or a public place, but not that bad :P
always long line waiting for popcorn and coke, the cashiers are slow as tortoise!
Its clean its close to the train.
The movie theater is OK the kiosks work which is good even though there is always a line for them.
The seats are just OK you can sit and not be in pain, the concision stand is always open and full of lines so the turn around is fast on pop corn.
the bathrooms always have a line i mean ALWAYS its like they give away gold or something in there.
You know you're at a movie theatre that doesn't care about smuggled food when the guy at the end of the row is drinking a beer and eating a burger before the movie starts.
Would prefer that the chairs weren't so damn close to each other. Some strange woman almost sat in my lap. Yes, I'm short, but not that short.
I came here numerous times with my Canto Meetup to see movies. It's just an average theater although it's the closest one to the Downtown. This theater is conveniently located in Union Square which is easily accessibly via mass transit.
Sorry Regal. I can't imagine giving your giant corporate movie plexness any more than two stars. Yeah, you've got big screens and comfy seats. But what about the rest?
Getting tickets can be a full contact sport and that's just the warm up for the struggle to get a good seat. Or you can buy tickets super early and show up earlier than normal and wait in line. Who has time for that crap? I don't usually buy movie snacks, but the lines here are always totally long. Boo! During the day the bathrooms are pretty nice - or at least they were this weekend. I've encountered them as super gross at other times.
Not the theater's fault, but the cross section of NYers that show up here makes me think this city has absolutely no manners.
Very expensive and very cheesy giant movie theater with an okay variety of large blockbuster to large independent movies.
Why three stars, then? It's conveniently located and by far the easiest place to sneak into movies in New York. Buy one ticket and then roam from theater to theater all day, or tell them you left your umbrella in the six thirty "There Will Be Blood" and never return from looking for it.
The feeling is mutual for this theater, because sometimes I feel like they know how to run it or sometimes that all chaos breaks loose. Its a nice and easy location to catch all your movies at, and frequent customer there as well. I wish though they would regulate during the movie people being disruptive though.
And arrive 30-40mins before the movie starts, because you wont get good seats!
The last 5 movies ive seen have been here. This place is by far my favorite!
It could be the location, or the crowd but i just love seeing movies here, and i have been coming here for years!
And PJ G. is so right they don't care about food smuggling. I have dined on taco bell, hamburgers and sushi before while watching a movie in this place.
This place has a great location, for shopping ,eating/drinking and even the bus and train. I heart this place!
WTF.
Seriously, WWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFF?!?!?*
*For those wanting further explanation, let me just say that I do NOT appreciate obnoxious and loud employees (YES, EMPLOYEEEEEES!!!) soliciting money from me as I am sitting there DURING THE TRAILERS. Yes, the lights have ALREADY gone down, and she was STILL soliciting on behalf of some-cause-or-another (no offense to the cause, but she is doing you more harm than good!). On top of that, HOW in the name of all that is heatstroke can you POSSIBLY run out of ICE...?!? ICE!!!
Allow me to return to my normal review:

bleh don't bother to come here and expect a good seat unless u either 1) know the secret seating areas or 2) come super early
seats here are stiff, floors are sticky, people are rowdy...
i dunno wats worse... i almost wanna say this place is worse than the time square one...
althoughhhhh because of the flow of people here... u can double up on movies =P
Overall it was a standard chain movie theatre. I have 2 complaints though...
1) We got bucket of popcorn and almost half of it was crumbs. I'm not talking about the little pieces of popcorn you can still eat. I'm talking full out, teeny tiny pieces of popcorn that were inedible.
2) The floor by my seat was slippery and not with coke or anything like that. It was almost as if someone poured massive amounts of popcorn butter on the floor. My feet would literally not stay put. I had to get napkins and put down so my feet wouldn't slide around. The theatre was packed so I couldn't really move to another seat unless I wanted to sit in the front 2 rows.
I'm in no hurry to go back to this theatre.
