**Reed's is now closed due to failure to pay rent (noticed this yesterday, 1/16/08).**

Unfortunate, because they had a delicious happy hour (the tartare was fabulous) and they REALLY knew how to make a dirty martini.  Sigh.

We chose this place (off of Yelp!) for our anniversary dinner.
We drove all the way up here. The place looked dead. The menu showcase thing had been pried open, its contents removed. Walked up to the door. There's a sign taped to the inside of the window: "Locks have been changed for nonpayment of rent. [...] Amount due: $50,032. Thanks, Simon Properties."

Unless they come up with this 50 grand, this place looks done for. We took pictures of the sign, we'll post 'em up sometime.

5 stars because our brief and failed attempt at dining here here was a candy-coated fellatio dreamworld in comparison to where we ended up going: Eddie V's.

I love this place. I finally found a spot that is really comfortable and has a nice atmosphere. Reminds me of the Supper Clubs from back in the day (you baby boomers know what I mean).  Everyone seemed relaxed and friendly.

The sitting was nice. We had a chance to sit on the leather love seat right on the dance floor for a excellent view of the stage. Most of the sitting is tables and chairs, patio or you can stand at the bar or along the wall .

The food was great. We tried the Calamari Fries. Having good food, atmosphere and good service is half the battle for me. Loving food the way that I do. I've found a place that has nice drinks, good food and my kind of music (smooth jazz). It only took a year, I've finally arrived.

Now I can call Austin home!!!

We went for the early set on Saturday night (about 8:30). Which was great for me. At my age (50+), I need to be in bed by midnight or I blow the next day sleeping). We got a chance to listen to the ban "Just Released" play a set and a half, before the younger people started crowding in, at around 11.

I look forward to going back. There's so much food on the bar menu I NEED to try.

I have eaten in the restaurant portion and had many of the entrees.  They are quite excellent.  I can say that the seafood and steaks are as good as any you can get anywhere else in Austin.  Love this place although I have not been there in about a year, because I went there on a Friday night and they were closed.  I thought they had gone out of business.  I really hope that that is not the case.

This is a great restaurant to take a date.  My girlfriend and I love the live music, the food, atmosphere, service.

They do it right and make it a memorable experience. Get there, have a drink at the bar, go upstairs and eat, head back down to the bar for some live music.

For the food, all I can say is that they do know how to do steaks right.  I always get my steak "Black & Blue" aka "Pittsburgh Style" and they did an excellent job of preparing it this way.  Most steakhouses don't quite do it properly.

A bit pricey, but worth it.  The only real negative is the fact that it's in a shopping center, but once you're inside, you wouldn't know it.

Two floors. The first floor is for young people to get drunk. the second floor is for fine dinning. We went to the second floor directly. The booth is so big. I can lie down and take a nap. The food is OK. Nothing is special.

I second Sonja B's review.  I've only been for drinks/appetizers and haven't ever eaten a full meal there, but it was *exactly* what I wanted both times I was there.  Friendly clientele, excellent food, great drinks, and live music that provides a great backdrop for conversation - entertaining, but not in your face.  The first time I was there, the service was a bit off, but the second time, it was perfect.  I highly recommend the ahi tuna, fried oysters, and caesar salad - all delicious and perfectly executed.  The calamari sticks aren't my favorite, but considering they were "sticks" composed of seafood, they were still pretty darn good.

Reed's Jazz and Supper Club is one of those places you need to take people who visit you in Austin. It's a unique blend of music, excellent food, and having a really nice evening on the town. I've never taken anyone that didn't thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Recommendation: I recommend, if it's your first time visiting Reed's and you go with several people, to order every appetizer on the menu. Not only are the appetizers excellent, but they give you a great overview of the chefs' talents. Delicious!

I ate here a few years back and was not very impressed. The food was OK, but the service was terrible. I found something floating in my wine glass and told the waiter.

He didn't even look at the glass and said in a mocking tone, "oh no, that's not goooood..." I don't think he works there anymore.

[Update: I guess not, the place is now closed.]

We tried the restaurant on the second floor a year or two ago and were not impressed with the food or the service.  We tried it again several months ago because we were interested in the band on the first floor later that evening.  The food was much improved and we had a very attentive, knowledgable waiter.  We found a place at the bar on the first floor and enjoyed the music after dinner.  We like to dance and most of the bands are playing dance music.  There is plenty of room on the dance floor.  It does get a little crowded on the weekend evenings.  All in all, a fun place.

This place is okay for happy hour, I've never been there at other times... They got great HH drinks and appertizer specials... So when my friends and I didn't feel like going to Eddy V's on a Thursday or Friday we would go to Reeds... :)
