I lived in Idaho Falls for four years and didn't make it to Reed's Dairy once!  I don't know how I could have missed it.  This is a great local attraction with phenomenal ice cream.  Located by the dairy farm that produces the milk used to make their ice bream (and other menu items), it's a quaint place that offers up generous portions, a down-home environment and quick service.  My only complaint would be the dairy-farm smell, which is inevitable, considering that it is a dairy farm.

Wow, this is just next to the road!  So cool to have the farm in the back.  Ice Cream was a tad too sweet for me.  It could have been a tad more creamier.  Tasted the full cream milk, wow! It's so tasty.  I wished I had a refrigerator to bring all their items back home.  I really enjoyed the animals in the back and saw the kids petting them.

I don't live in Idaho Falls anymore, but whenever I go home to visit my family Reed's Dairy is a must. The ice cream is amazing, and they have a great selection. I seem to remember cheesecake flavors being particularly great, and you can't go wrong with huckleberry or cookie dough either.

The portions are large in comparison to the price, which might be a bad for the waist line (but good for the soul). Additionally, the waffle cones are to die for. They actually taste like waffles.

This place smells really gross and isn't very pleasant. You are stepping on mud that is largely cow-poo, and you have to endure the intoxicating (literally) wafts of methane on your way to, while you're at, on your way back from, the place of business. However, there is an upside to this!

You may never drink a chocolate milk like the one you'll find here. Real dark chocolate, dutch processed cocoa, a hint of sweetness luxuriously thickened up with potato flakes and heavy cream. Sounds like a cold chocolate... and it is. For not that much of a calorie difference compared to a commercial brand of chocolate milk, you can experience the best kind of chocolate-dairy luxury created by man.

Additionally, they sell fresh cheeses made on site, various other milk products, and some of the best, freshest, homemade premium ice cream. While the flavors aren't as inventive as its artisan counterparts elsewhere in the country, Reed's succeeds in deliver a creamy and milky, and silky mouth feel with chunky, generous add-ins like cookie dough and oreos, and you can get a soft-ball sized scoop with a fragrant, carmalized homemade waffle cone for like $2. This is definitely a local secret, and one of the best deals EVAAAA.

This is the THE place to stop in idaho falls. I never go home without stopping in, usually several times.

I like to get the milk shakes. Pick from any of the wonderful ice creams, then they give you the choice of whole white milk or the "potato flaked" chocolate milk to make the shake. What you get is a shake so thick the straw they give you is a centimeter in diameter. I can inhale the things.

So what's the story?  They've got 260 cows, and they pride in the fact that they produce natural milk.  They don't inject their cows with any hormones.  And they encourage you to visit the cows and picnic with them too!

So when I heard of this place, I thought - OoooOooOooh, a real live dairy with real live cows!  Visited their dairy store in the middle of the night for some yummy ice cream.  They're open till 9pm, so there was plenty of time after work and dinner.

From Idaho Falls downtown, you drive west for a little bit, and the dairy/dairy store is on your right.  While they have a parking lot, if you are the really lazy type, there's even a drive-thru.

A neat little stop to take when going through Idaho Falls.

I lived in Idaho Falls. I had to withstand the horribly homemade, cheesy Reed's Dairy commercials contaminating my television. Outfitted with mom jeans and all.

All I can deduce from that is, Reed's must be that committed to their dairy so as to inject their advertisements with so much cheese.

I find chocolate milk a bit unsettling in concept. Reed's has a whole-milk version that is undoubtedly irresistible, and available in grocery stores city-wide. In elementary school I knew a lot of people who had milk and cheese curds delivered to their doorstep via Reed's delivery, but I think that practice sort of wanes as the kids grow older. It is still, however, a wonderful luxury that I never came across when I was living in southern California before and after Idaho and even in the bay area now.

Well, fuck delivery! Drive over twenty minutes to the farm itself and treat yourself to incredible, creamy, rich, flavorful ice cream. Five years ago a scoop the size of a softball only cost $1.25; could Reed's Dairy have possibly come to their senses and realized that they should be charging customers at least twice the amount? Their vanilla is so delicious, clean, and milky; it used to be my favorite ice cream of all time. The only drawback, however, is that in comparison to, say, Haagen-Dazs, the vanilla doesn't come through as potently.

It makes me absolutely heartsick to have to pay around four dollars for a good scoop of ice cream half the size of those at Reed's. Then again, I'm probably twenty pounds lighter than I was then...

No, definitely worth the weight gain. And withstanding the horrible stench of methane that wafts throughout the area. Hold your breath for five minutes, and then the ice cream will make it all better.

sweet sassy molassy this place is DA bidness...

stopped here after golf with my pops on his 80th birthday and we had a rocky-road cone and a blueberry cheesecake cone.  i am happy to report that my father said, "ya know Joe, i think this is the best ice cream i've ever eaten..." honestly, it was so fresh and gooey. the only ice cream i've had that compares to this is the Mexican Chocolate from "Mitchell's" in s.f.

you know this place is on point because they have a dairy farm out back and milk their own cows.

the overpowering stench of their cow farm is enough to send the bravest of tourist souls 'gentle into that good night' but if you can just beeline it back to your car and eat in your air conditioned ride you'll be fine.

they also sell their own cottage cheese, cheese curds (what IS a cheese curd anyways?) and chocolate milk.  i feel sorry for the lactose intolerant suckas that can't get down wit da dairy up in this piece.

oh my little nephew is lactose intolerant i forgot...so i got him a strawberry soy frap from starbucks. otherwise, that would be pretty sadistic to eat ice cream in front of a little kid.

Anyone who has the benefit of growing up in a rural area - like Idaho Falls gets to experience the most amazing produce.  Imagine asparagus picked 5 minutes before you start to cook it.  Spuds picked from the field the same day you bake them.  Sweet corn shucked right as the water is boiling.  I quit eating fruits and vegetables when I went to college because nothing compares.  Reed's ice cream is almost that good.

    Why 5 stars?
    - Amazingly fresh and untainted.  I was a little underwhelmed at first because the flavor wasn't as strong as the 'premium' ice cream we buy at home.  Take as much time as you can because there's a lot going on there from a flavor perspective.
    - Friendly people and cool location.  Never seen a traditional dairy?  This is pretty close to your last chance.
    - Cost effective.  Try getting ice cream - with a fresh made waffle cone - like this at Whole Foods.

Have a salad for lunch and sneak some Reed's before you go back to work.

mmmm just got some chunky monkey (banana ice cream and chocolate chips and nuts) and a new flavor I hadn't tried before, a southern black cherry, which I had black cherries and vanilla ice cream. Very good but still nothing beats chunky monkey!

If I didn't have an aversion to Reed's Dairy products stemming from a childhood incident I'm sure I'd give this place a better rating. It's honestly pretty good though.

The odor of ammonia outside the restaurant is palpable. The walk from the car to the front door is a fight through the fumes to safety. But once inside, a wide variety of ice creams, grilled cheese sandwiches made from their own cheese & butter, and homemade bread, and other delights. I had a single scoop of ice cream - it was the size of a softball for a couple of bucks. Nicely balanced, flavorful. The flavors were subdued, but it was very nice ice cream - smooth, rich, and creamy.
