Nice place for the kids. It's camping spots seem a bit smallish but we stay in the fully stocked cabins which are great. We've been twice and will certainly return. I guess it can get kind of loud at night depending on who else is at the camp ground - but so do all campgrounds. They have a playground, pool and game room for the kids and I hardly saw them at all during the day they were off playing the whole time. We went with a group and spent our time floating on rafts in the river.... relaxing, and beautiful. Try it, you'll like it

Okay - this campground (for me) hovers between 3 & 4 (high praise)... I'll go upward for several reasons.
First of all, the campsites, although close (as is common with these types of camping facilities), are not nearly as close as Dean's Resort. Back at Dean's, we looked out our tent window and right into the tent window of the guys next to us. This place has sites with more adequate space, and even has some visual barriers in between some of the sites.... bushes, even some little fences, etc. Oh, it was still plenty cozy, but not nearly as claustrophobic as Dean's.
Electricity hookups mean the big RV next to you isn't using its' generator. And the tent sites are wedged in between RVs.... so not having a generator going 'till 10 PM was nice. I've had that plenty at state parks in the area.
Third -- it was cheap for tent camping. $25.....and that IS cheap nowdays, with the KOA in Willetts and the state parks at around $43 (with all fees, taxes, etc. attached).
And....AND.... the bathrooms were very clean, painted, etc. Nice. I've been to other places that had bathrooms that looked like they'd give you something you don't want, including the state parks (i.e., Patrick's Point, Trinidad, for instance).
They've got some great playground equipment, a nice swimming pool, several rentals of different types and access to the Eel down the hill. They're also across from Confusion Hill, in case anyone is interested in a HISTORIC amusment facility (?). Hey, it's got a little train. Whatever.
I'd still rather camp in the middle of nowhere, but that's difficult to do in this neck of the woods, as it's all state/federal/combo or private land in this section of the state. So pay-per-slot camping is what we get, and I would stay at this one again, on an as-needed basis.
Caveat: We stayed on a Thursday night in late June. I suspect weekends and holidays are a LOT noisier.Listed in: Up in the Lovely Hills of…

Just got back from a 3 day camping trip with my wife and 11/2 year old son. The park was really fun during the day but not so fun at night. WAY TO NOISY, its a PARTY CAMPGROUND, Not a family apparently... I will elaborate bellow.
We had found this place online and had know previous knowledge of it, the website is nice and it was easy to call and get a site.
When we arrived, we where told that the spot we had picked was in between to RV sites and we are tent campers, so they moved us to a area that was going to be more quite according to them and we where told that the 10pm curfew was heavily enforced. So we ended up right next to the cabins.
Apparently the cabins have no curfew, the first night one of the groups in the cabin partied keg style tell 3 in the morning, which didn't go over well, the second night they where gearing up for another all-nighter, when my wife finally flipped out after they woke our kid up for the second time around 12pm and told them to shut up. this just lead to a yelling match between us and the cabins. After that they did quite a bit but proceeded to talk crap about us for about another hour, I was sitting up so I could here them clearly.
I walked around the the park kind of looking for a park person or something but every where else in this camp was quite, so I'm not to sure as to why a tent camping family would be purposely moved to a cabin party area?? Maybe they like there quests to get no sleep and be unhappy which leads to bad reviews
SUM UP: So there is a cool fort for kids a pool and a steep walk down to the river but its just hard to enjoy stuff when your tired and unhappy with the people around you, This would be a perfect camping ground for me when I was a kid looking to throw a party in the woods but for family campers I would look for another REAL family camping ground. I think RV/Cabin mixed in with tent camping doesn't work and I will make sure next time to find a campground that either has them separated or only has tent camping even the lights on all the cabins was kind of annoying to be honest, but go and stay there and you can be the judge if you like, but you have been warned by this review and others on here have stated the same complaints. -

I have been staying here for the last 8 years for the Redwood Run. Billie and her staff are absolutely amazing!! Never once have I felt uncomfortable or not wanted. They trat you like family here. Restrooms are ALWAYS clean and the whole campground is well maintained.
This IS the place to be if you're camping. Store is also stocked well and the prices are reasonable.
Firewood and Ice is available on site. -

I think it's important when rating a camp experience to state what kind of "camper" you are. I am primarily a tent or cabin person. I like the convenience of the water and electricity hookups, but hate being next to big ugly RVs. That being said, we had a pretty fun time on July 4th weekend. We got the two camping cabins. The cabins were perfectly fine, plenty of space, electricity, and beds. They are stuck together like a duplex, so you had better not rent just one of them unless the other one is empty. One thing I didn't like was the location of the cabins. My only main complaint about the place in general is the smallness of the sites, and the tendency for the other campers to overcrowd the small spaces. It seemed like every site had a rig twice as big as it could occupy, or twice as many tents as it could acommodate.
I like the amenities. The store was great, the pool, the activities, everything was really just cheesy family style car / rv camping. Perfect for families with children of all ages. My kids loved the playground. The river was stunning. They had lots of activities, which, while they were sort of silly, the kids had a lot of fun, and the employees were very enthusiastic. I have to agree with other reviews that this is a really party place. Lots of people up all night, having fun in big groups. That is not a criticism, it didn't bother me. But it might bother some, that's why i mention it.
If I went back, I would be sure to get the more spacious and private sites, or a cabin. There are about 6-8 cabins on the right as you drive in, and they are awesome. Secluded from the rest of the camp with their own space in the back. In front of that space is, in my opinion, the BEST of the tent sites, sites 1-5. A couple of cabins mixed with a couple of those tent sites would be a GREAT spot for a sizable group. ALso the cabins are right next to the pool and playground, which is great. The only other sites I'd recommend are sites 39-45, and 48. These are meant for BIG rvs, therefore, they are very spacious and back up to a nice wooded area. A word of caution. If you try to get these sites, don't tell them you are in a tent. I tried to book them for the next 4th of July, and she was mortified that I would waste all that space on just a tent. She really didn't get it. She didn't want to reserve it for me, and told me she's get back to me. A couple of the tent spots right next to the playground looked ok also if you have kids. But don't get that shuffleboard spot, or the ones in the middle in general. Stick to the edges, that way you're not encroached upon in every direction. The Minnie lilly cabin is really nice inside and well equipped if you want to camp inside. There's barely any space outside or parking, and the people were surrounded by the biggest RVS I've ever seen in my life. -

My family of 5 has been coming to this place for years. Our whole neighborhood is also hooked on coming up each year. Sure the tent sites are close together and it can be a little noisy at night, but the staff will say something to the noisemakers after a certain time. Let's face it, it's all about the kids and we feel very safe watching our kids play at the giant play structure, meeting new friends from all over the state, staying up late playing flashlight tag, swimming in the pool, roasting smores and doing karaoke. We've taken our kids to some of the best vacations ever and they always say this is their favorite spot. Not to mention the beautiful eel river beach they have at the bottom of the trail, along with a swing rope to jump into a deep water hole. The whole place is a Norman Rockwell Painting, if you're looking to go to bed early and need peace and quiet, put on earplugs...best place in Northern California.

This resort was not our first choice because I love Richardson's Grove down the road but they were sold out. It looked nice enough on the internet, so we decided to give it a try. I am a tent camper. This is an RV and cabin resort with a few tent sights squished in between. We were given a spot right across the dirt road from the bathrooms and laundry room. I have to admit, the facilities were very clean and well taken care of, but this is the best part of this campground. I felt like I was in the middle of the biggest party ever. I live in San Francisco and my husband and I were saying how much quieter it was sleeping in our apartment in North Beach than here in the woods. We had lights blaring in our tent all night from the giant spotligts they have on all night lighting the way to the bathroom. There were huge groups in RVs getting REALLY drunk, yelling and playing basketball until at least 11pm and NO ONE made them be quiet. I don't mind a little partying when you're camping, but this was beyond rediculous. It sounded like 50 or more people screaming and laughing as LOUD as they could be, with NO consideration for others. I was actually very disappointed that the staff didn't do anything about it. Plus, I guess I'm not used to RVers, but everyone seemed really over weight and out of shape and just sat around all day listening to their radios and TVs and drinking too much. NOT my style at all. The staff were nice and friendly and all, so I kind of feel bad, but the place was a nightmare!

A little background: we're really a state park, campground kind of family, tent camping and all that, but the website looked so nice...I feel like a fool for falling for it! We reserved a "camping cabin" so that we could lock up some expensive camera gear we were carrying and when I was speaking to the owner on the phone I asked what the cabin was like. He didn't make it sound charming or anything, he said it was simple and small. What he didn't say was that it was a camping cabin duplex! This small shack was divided into two halves with a thin wall. I was literally sleeping just a few inches from a 6 month old baby who woke up at least 5 times that first night! We had our two kids also, who woke up bright and cheery at 6:45 and our neighbors had to listen to them. This cabin put us back $45! Fortunately the charmless woman at the office got us our money back for the next two nights and we found a spot in a campground. There were some tent sites at the resort, but they were just wedges of dirt between a cabin or an RV. This place was packed. There was a family reunion spread out all over the resort...drunk, swearing, and someone ran by our cabin at 7 am and pounded on the wall (I don't think it was our neighbors!)
I guess if you want to "camp" and party, this might be your place.
