My parents and I stumbled across this hidden gem while taking a morning hike around downtown Los Altos. It's located just 1 block north of Lincoln Park.

A 5.9-acre nature preserve, the park includes picnic tables and a hillside trail that follows Adobe Creek among the majestic redwood trees and gardens of herbs and roses.  The park also seems to a be popular place to take dogs.

Visitor parking is available on University Avenue. No motor vehicles allowed in the park.

This park is a haven untouched grove of redwoods amongst the housing here in Los Altos. There is a small hiking trail and a redwood (wood) boardwalk probably to prevent the tree roots from getting trampled and killed.

This is the place you go if you need to talk to some big trees and you cannot get out of town. If you have more time it is worth the drive to the hills and much bigger parks up there. The trees will be glad you did.

I really enjoy hiking the boardwalk trail in this park, but it does have its drawbacks.  I love the whole redwood ecosystem and it's fun to just be in it.

The best thing about it is that the creek that runs through it connects it to Shoup park just down the way.

I hear that there are awesome children's programs here and my daughter has gone on a school fieldtrip that she really enjoyed, but I can't afford to send her to the camp or anything like that so we don't know how cool they are.

There is a geocache in the park that was the first cache I ever found.

    The drawbacks:
It's so residential.  It's a redwood reserve, but you feel like you're in someone's backyard so there's not really that nature feeling.
Since it has the supposedly good kid's programs, it is often overrun with kids in a program or at a birthday party or a camp.  Not so good to just go there on a whim some weekend afternoon.
It's small.  I know that 5.9 acres doesn't sound small, but the main part of the park that is easily accessible is pretty small.  Perhaps there is much more here than meets the casually observing eye, but I haven't found it.

I kinda feel bad giving it 3 stars since I am generally a supported of open space in any form, but I just can't rate it as high as other stellar parks.

After reading  yelper's' reviews, I was curious to see that piece of green in the middle of the urban and excited about finding an outdoor place to take the kids for a nature hike without being forced to drive too far. So we went to the Redwood Grove Park one weekday late afternoon.
After  parking the car at the curb side in University we walked the (short) distance to the  park. I was forced to drag the kids with me by pleas and promises of a good afternoon fun while the kids on their side angrily complained that "nothing special in these houses we see around".

Now, I have to make a comment here regarding this "thing" with kids that you have to promise them something very interesting and a good rewarding experience for making them leave their important business in front of the  TV / Computer  / Nintendo DS screens and having them waste their precious time with you (not to speak about spending their time outdoors out of all things). Usually the kids complain the whole way, when we arrive they try carefully and respectfully to enjoy that situation where they find themselves in an activity that involves no keyboard, and then in a mindlessly moment they let go and actually enjoy the outdoors.

All the kids' groaning and moaning disappeared at first site of the beautiful grove with its (nearly empty) creek and inviting wood boardwalk. We start investigating here and there, walking the path. The grove is indeed very beautiful, however it all ends very fast, because the grove is extremely small. The kids had only begun letting go and the fun come to its end. By the time the kids only gathered enough enthusiasm and interest we finished walking the whole grove.
Nevertheless, the abandon building in the grove is ugly and  oppressive with its broken windows and dirt around it. (I hope this is not where kids activities take place).

Bottom line, the place is a charm, but it is too small for a hike (the trail ends before you started),  if you come with kids plan on going on to the neighbor park for them to finish taking their energy out.
It is though perfect for small picnic (one picnic table at a picturesque corner) and the kids may play next to you in the gently, thin stream.
It is a perfect place to relax at because it is peaceful and quiet.

I imagine myself going back with a beach chair and a good book I waited weeks to finish.

Off the beaten path, street parking only, boardwalk trail, some picnic tables, not much else going on here.

Nice overall, but secluded (maybe a good thing).

I cannot believe that I live so close to Redwood Grove and haven't visited in several years ago. In fact, I haven't been there since working as a camp counselor there ten years ago! Although my memories of Redwood Grove have only been positive ones because the trees are gorgeous and there are cute kids running around all the time, I obviously can't give it a 5 star since I haven't made an effort to go there in so long, and if it was a 5 star park, I would have been back much more! Then again, I should really visit it again!

It's cute. Small, but cute. Good place to venture if you're nearby at Shroup Park. Nice short and beautful walk, particularly for elderly people.

Okay, so the trail around the creek is not very long, but the creek is awesome if you have toddlers and it's a hot, hot  day.  The trail  winds around and ends in the same place so your young ones can safely walk the length without you if they want.  Also, the creek is shallow enough for them to tromp through and have some water play on a hot day -- all while being shaded by the redwood trees.
