My coworker suggested coming here when I needed new tires and boy am I glad! I came here after Les Schwab in San Carlos tried to rip me off and offered me a quote by phone, only to recant it when I showed up in person.

The person who answered my initial call was very friendly, knowledgeable, and listened to me and my concerns. I was already leery of going to any tire store since Les Schwab had just tried to charge me more than what they had quoted me. He offered good and honest advice and gave me a reasonable quote. Not only was this place cheaper than Les Schwab in San Carlos, but they gave me a better set of performance tires! I stopped by and they said that it would take about an hour or 1.5 hours if I needed my alignment fixed. It ended up taking 2 hours and they were very apologetic. While they were working on my car, they did check on me a couple of times to see if I was ok, which was very thoughtful. I was not in a hurry so the wait was fine by me. Honestly, I was so busy goofing off on the internet that I did not even realize it had taken 2 hours.

Before I left, I asked the employee about their tire prices and ability to price match items. I was told that they do get them from a warehouse and if customers decide to order with them, their prices would be comparable to Tire Rack and that I would only be responsible for the extra shipping cost and installation. Score! Good to know as I will do that next time. I was also concerned about the noise from my tires and I was told that I have a 30 day guarantee and that if I did not like them to come back and they would work with me. I also have free rotations so I guess that does not hurt as well.

    Pros:
    Knowledgeable and friendly staff
Decent waiting/lounge area- they have a couple of computers for customers to use, a snack area, and free WiFi!
    Quick service
    They guarantee their work
Plenty of parking and easy to find
They did not try to rip me off or try to sell me something I did not want/need.

    Cons: None known =)

I would gladly recommend this place to my family and friends and would not hesitate to return when I am in need of new tires.

I first found RGT when I purchased some new tires at http://tirerack.com.  They were one of the recommended installers in the area.  I was impressed first with their communication via email and phone.  Then I was impressed with their service.  The gentlemen who work at the desk are awesome, especially Denny!  I stayed in the waiting room while the work was done, and it's really a comfortable place to work from.  They have wifi, available computers, comfy seats, coffee, water, and a tv -- and it's clean!  The restrooms are lovely, and if you don't have work to do, the shop features an interesting collection of vintage models, sports paraphernalia, and the like.
I decided to get an alignment with the tires since it was well-priced and no place has ever gotten my car to quit pulling to the left.  They got it right!  That alone was worth it.
I returned for my car's 100,000 service (it's a 2005, I just drive a ton), and they showed me everything that they took off my car, asked prior to doing any additional work, and pointed out things I may need to think about down the line.
Today I'm back for a power steering issue.  My car was groaning on turns in the cold mornings.  I figured I at least needed a flush of the power steering fluid, hopefully not a new pump.  Denny looked up notices for my car and found Acura recently posted about an O-ring problem allowing air into the power steering system causing exactly the same things my car had been doing.  So, it looks like i need a flush and an O-ring, not a pump.  The thoroughness here is awesome!

    They under-promise. They over-deliver.

The service is outstanding, with super-friendly employees.

The place is spotless. You could eat off the floors.

The leather (or pleather) furniture is comfy.

The coffee sucks, so....bring in a Starbucks.

This is truly an outstanding place. They will not lie to you. When you call for a quote, they will tell you their price upfront, be open for price match and would do your tire change with utmost professionalism and courteousness. This is what customers really need from any business.

I changed my car's tires from them and recently got tires rotated (free) after 5k miles. The experience was as outstanding as it was with the tire change.

I previously gave them 2 stars. I have tried to change my review, but it seems that yelp makes it very difficult to do. Since writing the last review, Denny called me to tell me that the tires were covered by the warranty and that i would be receiving a refund. He apologized for any misunderstandings. I felt they handled the problem nicely and i will continue to buy my tires from them.

Bought 4 tires today. Aside from the good service and price that other have mentioned, I want to comment on the free internet and desks available. If you bring your laptop, it is pretty convenient to setup shop in the waiting room. Very satisfied with the tires and the work as well of course.

Phenomenal service. Noah provided amazing help to me and my dad (yes, my dad helped me, no - not because I am a girly girl, but because he paid for my tires a my Xmas present!) I finally got around to replacing my super bald tires just about a month ago.

We did the research ahead of time and went online to http://TireRack.com and then talked to them on the phone for a recommendation of tires. Once we figured out what we wanted, we called Redwood General to see if they could match their price. Done. Did that in like two seconds flat. We then asked when they could get them in.... said, be here tomorrow at 8 am. Uhhh? Seriously, that fast? Yes - they weren't messing around.

So off I go the next day, see Noah for a quick hello and thank you, and then the shuttle takes me back to work. Seamless.

They called to confirm I needed an alignment and said my car would be ready soon.

    Perfect experience. Seamless. Honest. Fast.

    Highly recommended!

I've always bought my tires at Costco as I thought they had the lowest prices.  My mechanic suggested I check out http://TireRack.com and when I saw their prices I couldn't believe they were lower than Costco.  When I looked for an installer, General Motors was suggested.  I went to their site and requested a quote (on a whim) and, within a couple of hours, they beat TireRack's pricing and scheduled me an appointment for the next morning.

I'm a major comparison shopper and always do my research.  I can't believe General has been kept from me for so long!

    Nice work Guys!

    AWFUL!!
    DON'T GO HERE!!

I bought tires here for a very good price. But then they tried to tell me I needed an alignment. I just had the alignment done 2 months prior so it was impossible that it would get crooked again in a few weeks. I drive less than a mile to work in very mild conditions. Still they insisted.

Then a month later I get a flat. I go back to fix it & they charged me $30. Fine whatever, but the next week it starts going flat again. I take it to Les Schwaab, and they fix the flat FOR FREE. They asked me who fixed it, I said "Redwood General", they said "they did a lousy job."

Unbelievable!! They tried to sell me unneeded service, then charge me to fix a flat, which they can't even do correctly.

Don't go here!!  Go to Les Schwaab in San Carlos on El Camino. They fix flats & rotate tires for free. It baffles me that a business, in this day and age of Internet & online reviews, can continue to give lousy service. Word of mouth can prove costly Redwood General.

They did a brilliant job!! Super plus on the clean bathrooms, well ventilated waiting area (especially with the HOT weather in Redwood City) and free wifi. Everything was also done in about 45 minutes. I would give them 5 stars for this easily.

So why the 3 stars rating??? Because the guy on the counter was trying to sell the most expensive tires they had on stock and said it was the only type they had for the car and when the decision was made not to purchase, he backtracked a bit and said hold on, we actually have this other type (which was way cheaper).

I understand they didn't get that big and successful (even have their own iphone app) with just  great customer service. They also have to be really good salesmen and I commend them for that. I truly do...but as a consumer, one has to be vigilant as well.

important: request for a price quote online prior to going there. That way expectations are managed.

If you are gonna buy NEW tires, don't even bother with a national chain or some kinda discount stuff.  These dudes will beat the brains out of whoever's prices and PLUS DEY GOT DAT WI-FI AND CLEAN BATHROOMS.

No one wants to shell out the dough for new tires and brakes...don't care what you say!  But its gotta be done periodically.  I had been referred to shop that wanted to charge me approx $1700 for 4 new tires, 2 brakes and rotors and alignment.

Luckily I thought to give General Tire a call.  Long story short, they saved me about $600 on the job, provided a shuttle ride to work AND dropped my car off at my work place when they finished!  Customer for life!!

Visit them for the tires and related services (alignment, rotation, balancing, etc).

Whatever you do, do NOT let them perform other types of repair work on your car.  They screwed up our Subaru something proper and never could fix it correctly even after several returns.

Luckily we found a great mechanic at the end of our ordeal.

I'm giving this place 2 stars solely for it's sales staff, which is slightly above average, but nothing special.

Here's the scenario, I took my car in to get 4 tires that I provided mounted and balanced.  Minus the expensive machine, this is not a hard task.  Your average backyard mechanic could do this with their eyes closed.  The machine brakes the bead on the tire, you wiggle the tire off the rim, wiggle the new one on, and fill the new tire with alot more air than usual to re-bead the new tire.

Then you put the newly mounted wheel on another machine that spins the wheel/tire combo, and TELLS YOU how much and where to put the weight.

Lastly, put the wheel and all equipment with it back on the car....

    The only hard bits are:
    A. Don't let the wheel spin on the machine and treat it with care when picking up and setting down so you don't damage the wheel.

    B.  Don't leave fingers on the wheel when filling the new tire with air to rebead the tire as you'll loose them

    C.  Reading 2 numbers and one color (arrow) so you can put the weight in the right spot

    D.  Remember the 6 things that go on each corner of the car, 5 of them being the lug nuts that hold the wheel on the car.  The other one being the valve stem cap you took off to fill the tire with air.

Now, it may seem like alot of reading, but the actual task should take someone that's good about 90 seconds start to finish, and a mental giant about 5 minutes.

So when you come back to pick up your car and 2 of the valve stems are missing, and the 2 that are on there aren't your originals, and don't even match each other, plus the face of the wheel is knicked up a bit, you can see where I'm coming from.

In this particular case the sales associate was very helpful in trying to find me my valve caps which were stolen off my car (unofficially) as they were no where to be seen in their tire mounting area, and all the techs had valve stems in thier pockets, none of which were my metallic BMW ones.  He found me some in a drawer that weren't the same but I don't really care about them that much, it's just the point.  When I pay $25 a wheel for a job that can be done in less than 10 minutes, I'd like my car to be returned to me in the same shape i dropped it off.

One wheel was scratched more, but they were all curb damaged when I bought it so I wasn't going to be nit picky about that, however you should know this before you bring your car here.

So the 2 stars are awarded for the mediocre job the sales associate tried to do, they did give me some valve caps, but didn't offer to make it the same as it was, which I asked for, but was ignored.

The mechanical side recieved no stars, they have the combined iq of _____.  You can fill in that blank, and unfortunately the employees aren't boding well for a negative stereotype that is associated with their race....... Quality just isn't in the vocabulary it seems.

Thanks Denny! I trust leaving my car for repairs and oil changes and tires here. I don't worry about being scammed by jokers who don't know what they're talking about. Those creeps work at the other tire stores. The guys here seem to enjoy what they do and know their stuff. Great customer care and so far so good after many years of great service. Don't try to save time by going to any other Peninsula tire store. Take the time to go to Redwood City. It's worth it.

I am writing this right now from the waiting room - free WiFi rules.  Simply put, this is one of the better tire shops I've run across.  No BS, no over-selling, great people, great service, great prices.  They managed to save my wife and I a bit on new tires by going with Hankook's - a brand I never heard of before but come highly recommended (Google them) - and are considerably cheaper than Goodyear, Michelin, etc. AND come with 80K mile warranty.  Epic win.

    Oh yeah, free coffee too.

    Professional service with decent prices.

I needed a new set of tires for my truck. I  called around a few places and also looked online at the usual places to get a price check.

Called up Redwood General and they quoted me an OK price. Filled out the web form and they gave me a different better price!
Since they had to order in the tires for me, they at least honored the lowest quote, but I was a little annoyed that they just couldn't give me the best price right away....

Anyway when the tires came in, the installation was smooth but took a little longer than I expected. However the nice thing is that they have free wifi and a nice bench table that you can work at.

Summary: Professional bunch of folks but make sure you get the internet quote on pricing before you call in - and save yourself a bunch of $$$

My car is my baby, but I don't have time to do work on it myself anymore, so I was in the market for a good shop. My boyfriend recommended General Tire for the excellent service they did on his truck.

When I first called in for 30,000 mile major service, the guy I talked to said my car was too low in mileage to need that much work and all I required was an inspection, oil/air filter change and tire rotation. So right off the bat they were saving me money by not charging me for a service i didn't need.

They worked on my car very quickly and when Johnny called to let me know my car was ready (later the same day), he also mentioned that my tires were dangerously worn. I was already aware of that, so I ordered some new tires as well (comparable price to TireRack). Johnny even let me email him at his personal email, the specs from my previous custom alignment and didn't charge me any more than the normal alignment price.

My car now happily purrs on the back roads again, thanks to General Tire!

Been using these guys and gals for a couple years now; they are a winner to me. Their personal service is a rare find.

I'd previously bought tires at Wheel Works and Costco, and had tire repairs done at wherever was closest. In the case of the former, I always felt like I was being had; at Costco I always just wondered...

In the space of two months about a year ago I had to fully re-tire both cars, and they were very helpful and not condescending in reviewing my preliminary choices. In one case they recommended a different tire that I went with, and in the other case they special-ordered the tires I wanted. I've been very happy with both sets of tires.

I've since been back for tire repairs; one they could fix and another that had to be replaced. (yep, it was the special-order one)

Installation is completed as promised. If it's a same-day job, I love to kill time at Big Lots kitty-corner so I have no problem hanging around; they also have a comfortable waiting area and lots of 49ers memorabilia to ogle. (I wish they'd use UV-resistant cases for their footballs, it pains me to see signatures of the greats fading away!)

They will be my first and only stop when I need to re-tire again!

I got 4 new tires the free alignment check. The price on the tires was good and they were actually new. (Unlike other places were they sell you unused tires which are a couple of years old as "new", which is dangerous)

There was some minor annoyance: a service which was performed and billed, but not requested by me. But the management took care of this in a professional manner and corrected the bill.

Absolutely 5 stars all the way!  This place doesn't get any more professional when it comes to auto repairs or tire service.  The staff is extremely friendly every time I enter this establishment.  This is one of the few places that do what they say and say what they do.  When they quote  you a price, they don't call you later to tell you there's something else wrong with your vehicle and that it's going to cost you more money.  Very honest people with great ethics.  How many auto repair shops can you say that about?

Another reason why I come to this place is their competitive pricing.  They even matched Costco's promotion on a set of 4 tires, which I brought the coupon in to them.  The coupon had expired and Costco told me they couldn't honor the promotion because the rebate came from their manufacturer.  The owner, Alpio, was there and he said they will honor it.  He even offered me a loaner car because the tires weren't in stock!  Who does that???  This place has been in business forever and I can see why.  They know how to run a proper business and they know how to cater to their customer' needs.  First class business!  I highly recommend this fine establishment.  It's a little bit out of my way bringing my cars here, but I would not hesitate in doing so.  They have me as a loyal customer for as long as I own a car.

Since I'm a girl and young, most shops don't seem to take me serious and I've been duped a few times but that's never the case here. I can fully trust that my car will be well taken cared of.

They even offer a shuttle to take you to/from your work or home while your car is being worked on.

I ordered a set of Continental tires and General matched the price from America's tires with no hassles.  When they discovered that one of the tires was defective, they gave me a better tire ( different brand) for the same price.

I've been a customer more times than I would like to admit, and time and time again Noah has come through. This guy could have 9 phone lines going and keep his cool and tend to my painful requests. Smart guy with a great deal of patience that I hope doesn't go unnoticed. Recently I had a very unusual tire defect and again it was taken care of, this was not their fault but they wouldn't let me leave with it unresolved.

Redwood General Tire was not strong on timeliness.  They had to order in tires for our Mini and promised them by 1:30 p.m. and would call us if they were NOT.  Fortunately we called before showing up at 2 p.m. because tires did not arrive until 2:30.  Then they promised completion by about 4:30. The job was actually done at 5:20.  Now the GOOD NEWS: (1) price about $ 20 less than competitor (2) great waiting area with computers, t.v., clean rest rooms and (3) very personable staff.  I'd go there again - armed with a longer novel next time.

This is a great tire shop! I went in with a Firestone coupon flier and the folks at Redwood General had no issues honoring it. They did so with enthusiasm and professionalism, which is truly what sets this shop apart.  After seeing the Hancook tire rated highly in Consumer reports, I got a great deal on them after pricing at a few different places around town. I went in again recently for an oil change and alignment and they once again did an exceptional job. Spencer Sperduto (sp?) provides Noordstrom service at Target prices. I'd give them a 5th star if they put a guy in back to wash the car after a service, but regardless I'll always go back to Redwood.

I've purchased many tires for several different vehicles over the past years. I've had positive experiences and some not so positive. I have gone back because of the convenience factor and the fact I actually know some of the service reps by name. However, the last time I bought tires for my car, I decided to buy the more expensive tires that carried a 40,000 mile mile warranty. I had the tires rotated as directed. To my astonishment, the  tires were completely worn out at 20,000 miles. When I brought them back, I was told I had caused the tires to wear prematurely and that the warranty would not apply. The owner actually said I had abused the tires! No customer service here! The customer is always at fault at this place. I bought  new tires and left. I will never return. They have lost my business forever. The funny thing is I don't think they care.

The customer service was great and the professionalism of the staff exceptional.   I took in my Mercedes SL500 for brakes and the cost was 40% less than the dealer!  My car was ready the same day and was even washed for me when I picked it up.

The shop is clean and well run with a very knowledgeable staff.  The waiting area offers free wi-fi which is a great convenience, to be able to work while I wait for my car.  I highly recommend Redwood General Tire!.

A little pricey for a tire repair, I'm just used to 20$ East LA deals. I'd come here again  with no hesetations. Great service, awesome waiting area, very helpful staff.

Good service, no surprises, no add-ons, and stuck to their estimate.  Plus they beat the Tire Rack for prices.  And, while you wait they have coffee and WiFi.  Hard to ask for more ... but I'm sure somebdy can come up with a few ideas.
