Their pizza's are ridiculously packed with stuff and are simply wonderful.  Just look at the photo!

There are decent places to eat pizza in the Twin Towns, but Red's Savoy Pizza is my favorite.

I only go to the Saint Paul location that is on Hiway 52 and 7th because I love the "dive bar/old supperclub" atmosphere.

I LOVE Savoy pizza.  Greasy, heavy, fill you to the ribs deliciousness.  The sausage has enough garlic in it to remind you of your pizza for at least another day after you're done eating it.  The ambiance of the place leaves something to be desired - service is usually a little rough around the edges but it sorta makes the place what it is.  I also refuse to sit in the front area after seeing the larger and larger barriers that go up after each successive crash into the front from wayward drivers who miss the turn from 52 to 94.  It is impossible to eat a normal serving of food here - it is positively addicting!

good pizza, but if you're looking for an amazing thin-crust that's similar to Savoy, check out Italian Pie Shoppe (my fav thin-crust) or Broadway Pizza.

This joint makes a great pizza.  If you love  your pizza brimming with toppings this place is for you.  My boyfriend and I love to order a large Special to go and then sit at the bar and have a drink while we wait.  It is the place to go if you wanna soak up some old school Saint Paul atmosphere.  This place is an institution around here.

It may just be the east sider in me, but Red's Savoy is my pick for "Best All-Around Pizza" in the Twin Cities. Each little square weighs, I'd say, 3 to 5 times more than the average pizza. The sauce is..almost spicy for a pizza sauce, and in my opinion, pizza perfection.

Most of the negatives on here are for the bar/dirtiness, but I always order it to go, so no negatives from me.

Average pizza. Sauce is quite good but overabundance of toppings and cheese detract from it. We were able to get our desired pizza format of slices (the not-so-friendly waitress on the phone instructed me that this is a "pie slice" - whatever, I call it "the way it should be"). Price is fair for the sheer amount of crap thrown on top, but that doesn't necessarily make it worth it. The meal sat in my gullet for about 48 hours, weighing me down and bloating me out. Ow.

Compared to the only other local place we've tried so far, Michael's, I'll pass on Savoy. Maybe I just don't like Northern-style pizza? And I would never consider this place charming. It's a complete dump, but in an uninspired old school way.

After hearing my sister praise this place, I finally went there for dinner. It's pretty dark inside, I don't think there are any windows, it's a bit of a dive. The staff was friendly, but service was so-so. I got water and the cup I got was super dirty, so that was a big turn off that the server didn't notice it, because there was cheese all over the outside of the cup. The pizza was ok,  but I guess I am just not a big fan of 2 inches of topping on hardly any crust because I didn't think the toppings cooked well enough.

Parking on a busy night is a bit tough, I almost got hit by a guy that was driving with a baby on his lap (I know that the restaurant's fault, but it was part of my experience).

Savoy's is arguably the best pizza in the twin cities, keeping in mind that taste in pizza can vary considerably. Savoy's is a thin crust pizza with a thick, hearty, and spicy tomato sauce. The sauce is really what makes this pizza unique and keeps me coming back for more and why I rank it among the best.

Atop the pizza is more cheese than any sane person would reasonably expect on a thin crust pizza. After the pizza is refrigerated, there is about an inch of solid cheese on a Savoy's pizza. The Italian sausage is pretty good too. It comes in rather large clumps and has a good amount of heat to it.

For the amount of cheese and toppings you get on the pizza, it is a great value. A large will run you about 15 dollars and a medium about 12 dollars. I like to eat at the restaurant because it has a small town VFW feel to it. The waitresses are sassy and in no particular hurry to take your order or get drinks. Don't come if you are in a hurry, this is a place you come to sit back and have a couple of cheap beers and enjoy a great pizza.

If you want to take out, it is infinitely quicker to call the take out location on White Bear and 3rd Street. They can pump out the same quality pizza in about 15-20 minutes whereas the downtown location routinely takes an hour or more. Also, the parking lot at the downtown location can fill up quickly on weekends.

So, I used the ploy of the 'best pizza in the twin cities' to get my guy away from the tv on a football sunday.  Yes, I did tell him they had a few sets scattered around the joint.

He looked at me weird when I said we should order two mediums, I knew fully that we would probably be able to finish one, but not two.  But this pizza is so good, you will want left overs.  Let's just say, pizza #2 barely made it to lunch time the next day.  We practically fought over who got the last piece.

Yeap - that good.

I love the pepperoni/mushroom....but my mom swears by the sausage/sauerkraut.  She is german, go figure.

Parking can be a bear, take the small car if you have one.
Another suggestion:  call and order your pizza before you arrived.  We learned this when the table next to us sat down and immediately had their pizza.  Yes we were jealous and drooling all over ourselves - oh the smells.

I will have to say this is the best pizza place in the Twin Cities.  I love me some pizza and I've tried many places, but this pizza place was delicious!  We had the hawaiian pizza and I loved it!  Even eating it cold is absolutely yummy!

The service was great, she was really nice and very friendly.  It was definitely a different dining experience.  We went for lunch and once you stepped in, it was really dark in there, you might have felt like you're dining for dinner or it just felt really late.  Overall, definitely think you should give this pizza place a go at it!

Maybe I wasn't SUPER impressed with this place because my Uncle psyched me up for some of "the best pizza I will ever eat."  It was OK.  We got the House and it was good.  Greasy, but good.

I think the "charm" of this place is what keeps people coming back.  For some reason people like waitstaff who treat you like crap.

A unique dining experience.  I'd never had a pizza quite like that before.  It had some kick to it.  Just don't order a cheese pizza--order one of their specials with a number of toppings.  You'll be glad you did.

Everybody was very nice, a very relaxed atmosphere.  Great pizza--a kind I hadn't experienced until arriving in the twin cities.

I have gone to Red's Savoy off and on for 20 years. When I was young, dumb and drunk I thought it was the best pizza in the world.
As I've aged, I've come to realize what an absolute dump Red's is of a place. Talk about resting on your laurels! Maybe I'm just cranky, but I don't appreciate restaurants that have too many tables for the space, the filthiest bathrooms bar none and toothless hags for servers who think rudeness is an endearing quality.
Last time I was there ( I by this I do mean the LAST time) there were 6 of us. They let us reserve a table and lucky us, it was right next to the takeout window! We were treated to a steady line of face-level asses within 6" of our table for 2 hours!
We ordered a couple of pizzas, a couple of appetizers and 1 pasta entree.
The 1 pizza came first, along with the pasta. We asked about the 2nd pizza- "it's on it's way".  Half and hour later, we asked again; she looked at her tickets, said oops, and entered the order and asked to pizza makers to speed it up.
The appetizers then came, again after inquiring about them. These were our kid's dinners, so after an hour wait, they would have eaten sticks. At least they were fed at this point.
The 2nd pizza arrived, 1 1/2 hours after ordering. We just boxed it up and left.
There is one good thing about Savoy- their salad dressings are homemade and their blue cheese is especially good.
Another item they need to consider is their menu deletions. They used to have burgers, torsk, fried chicken and cod dinners available- not anymore.
For those that love the Savoy, I'm happy for you.
I however, will not give another nickle to this weeping sore of a boil on the East Side's bottom.

Interesting place... It was pretty bright out, so when we opened the solid door, I literally couldn't see inside.  We were greeted right away and seated very quickly.  Everything was nice about the place.  A good dive pizza place.  Pizza was good and very reasonable.  Their tap beer was something like.. Leinenkugel, miller lite, bud, bud-light, and michelob... I would have given an extra one star for a Surly on tap.  Definitely a different kind of place with its own unique pizza.

I love this place. Great Midwest style pizza. The best I know of in the area.
The special and sauerkraut pizza is awesome. I know it sounds weird but its super good. My wife is not a fan of sauerkraut but loves this pizza. It comes on a huge lunch tray and is about 2 inches high. They pile on the toppings. The sausage is some of the best I've had on a pizza and the sauce is also excellent with some kick to it.

I don't care what others say about the atmosphere. I like it. A cozy neighborhood feel that's world's away from a chain. It's authentic. Yeah it's busy at times but there's a reason for that. Just have some patience and soon you'll have your reward.  Oh, and another huge plus for me: they have Beck's Dark on tap! So good and even better with the pizza. Great place to be on a Wild hockey night.

some of the best pizza in the twin cities, that is for sure.  I have not brought my great and witty friend M here yet, but the next time I go, she will certainly get a call.
Savoy is best enjoyed with some friends in a booth, with beer.  Too bad you don't know my friend M, as she would make a great addition to your party at Savoy.  Did I mention that she is single?  Thats right.

I'd give it a 4.5.  Savoy's and Punch are my two favorite pizza places in the Twin Cities.  Both have different styles which is good 'cause it makes it easier to decide depending on the mood I'm in.

For the best pizza in the Twin Cities, the special at Red's Savoy is tops (and I ordinarily hate sauerkraut, which seems to be the ingredient that makes it special).

I'm kind of torn on this place.  On one hand the pizza was pretty good.  I went there for lunch with a coworker and the pizza that we ordered was probably in the top 10 pizzas that i've eaten in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area.  The reason however that i'm torn on this place has everything to do with the atmosphere.  To me the place seemed really dirty and almost like a bar.  When I was there at 11:30am there were 5 individuals who had bellied up to the bar and were taking shots.  While I certainly have been known to do the same I thought that it was odd to see during lunch on a Wednesday.

Great lunch place for the Capitol crowd ... usually see some familiar faces and some political wheelings and dealings in the dark corners. It's part of it's charm. Epitimy of a dive.

Love this pizza, this kind of pizza is what i would consider the authentic regional pizza( thin crispy crust cut into squares). Ive always ordered take out, but the staff has always been friendly even when it's busy- as far as Im concerned most of these people who are complaining about rude service should go back to the chain restaurants where they can piss on some poor schmuck who can't talk back because of corporate policy. If the customer is being a jag-off they should get told so, these people shouldnt think the few dollars they are tipping qualifies them to be a DOUCHE

I chose this place because it wasn't until I've been in MN for ten years that a new friend took me here. In true MN fashion, she was from Chicago. At that point it was the best pizza I've had thus far. This is when I started to feel like I belonged here. This is the first time I thought OMG what have I been missing. It stirred up a lot of emotions, as far as feeling like I stepped into a real pizza tavern back in upstate NY. Many of which don't exist anymore. Even though I do a lot of reminiscing about the place, I fell in love with this state as soon as I stepped off the plane. Back to the pizza, at this point I have only had Cosetta's and Pizza Hut. Seeing and tasting this was off the charts. It is a visual. We got the special, which is the first time I had green olives on a pizza. Another thing this set in her ways Taurus, got to experience. The next part was the pitcher of coke on tap from the bar, is the best bargain, because you will need refills, totally satisfied my addiction. Anyway if you know or run into any new Mn transplants, don't let them wait ten years to come here. Give them a month to settle in.

Our experience has been not real good. Last time there, we waited over an hour for a meal that never came. We think they just forgot we were there. Waitress never even looked our way for the entire hour.
We walked and never since returned.

They do have good pizza though. Definitely a call-in, take out situation.
The service basically sucks. The food is generally good.

The place is generally crowded, and rather disorganized, (a major factor in the "non-service") and not a good setup to egress quickly from. (in case of fire or, a car crashing through the wall, into the building) Lighting is poor, and same decor for last eons.

We have not tried the other suburban locations; too afraid I guess!

Good Pizza; get it made ahead for take out; you'll be light years ahead!

The best pizza in town.  I know what you're thinking, St. Paul, gross, right?  It's worth it.  I will only drive to St. Paul for three - four things and this is one of them.  It's a dive, the pizza is freakin' awesome and it is FUN St. Paul people watching.  Check out the servers.  If you love pizza, get to this place.

Nothing bad to say about the pizza, it's just average in my opinion.  The sauce has a little heat to it which is nice.  Ordered Pepperoni Pizza and Sausage pizza and both were good but would I go back again - no, as I didn't feel there was anything spectacular about their pizza compared to other pizza in town.
