not the easiest beach to get down to. there's a winding trail with poison oak along the trail, so stay on the trail.
the sand is in during summer and fall, then washes out in winter and redrock becomes a rocky beach.
It is my favorite beach. It's also one of my favorite hikes.
The weekends are the gawkiest. weekdays are kind of quiet and nice, and as the other review points out, it's very nice in the mid afternoon, so there's no hurry to get there. take your time.

Positively the best clothing optional beach in the area. Sure, there are a few miserable gawkers, but the scenery is great, the sand (when it's there) is great, and the company is (mostly) great.
Best to go in the afternoon, when the sun has warmed the boulders on the beach.

As a connoisseur of nude beaches on the West Coast I have to give the highest rating to Red Rock beach it is simply my favorite. I have been going 3 to 4 times a year for the past 5 years and I need to say that it is the most laid back nude beach I have been too. Naturally a bit misanthropic and allergic to clothes I often chafe a the pick up, gawking vibe that seems to go hand in hand with naturism and nudists and the spots at which we congregate. I have gone alone and with my wife and have found my reception to be similar single or coupled. On the beach there is a cadre of hippies and chiropractor from Mill Valley who keep everything in check while playing a game of throwing two frisbees at a time. Some regulars have been enjoying the charms of the beach since the 70's and are happy to share their tales. Sometimes nude and un-nude climbers boulder on the cliffs by the beach. If a pervert comes down and does too much gawking or acts strange they intervene and confront. But hey it is spiritual nudity man. . .everyone looks but pretends not too see. If you want to join in the hippy frisbee games cool, if not, then you will be left alone. The long walk is a plus because it does keep the crowds down. How to find it? It is the first beach south of Stinson on 101 look for the red rock wall with cars parked by it. Although it is recommendable to park on the other side of the road as occasionally rocks peel of the cliff and on to the windshields and roofs of the cars below. As anywhere in the bay area, it is advisable to not leave your wallet on your front seat when you go down to the beach. . .but I have not heard about too much break in crime. . .

Very pretty place I stumbled across with my sister...we were um...not aware of the clothing situation here, but whatever, maybe everyone there thought we were gawkers, but we weren't, so I don't feel bad about it.
