Review Highlights
When I pick up the horn and call Red Sea, the conversation usually goes something like this.
Kick-Ass grocery store owner: " Chello?" (gutturally articulated)
Myself: "Dolmas."
KAGSO: "Dolmas, dolmas?"
Myself: "Dolmas dolmas dolmas. Dolmas. Oil."
KAGSO: "Be there in 45 minutes or less."
I LOVE THESE GODDAMN DOLMAS! Get them cold, or don't get them at all and for the love of all that is holy ask for some oil so that you can dip your sandwich/pizza/banana in it.
These guys are friendly, fast, and their store is so delightfully kitschy, what's not to love about Red Sea Market/Greek deli/pizzeria?
Nothin'.
This turned into one of those culinary conundrums where you have to choose among a few good looking options. Pizza, sandwiches and some mediterranean options were all available. I always try to go with what their specialty is, and with pizza featured predominantly on the signs, not to mention the rather unique sight of a pizza oven inside of a corner market, I went with a slice.
Which turned out to be a rather unmemorable slice, obviously sitting in the warming oven for a while. The rock bottom price ($2.25) and generous size saved the third star.
Friendly cashier service was offset by the "does he even know I am here" service from the guy making and serving the slice.
Red Sea Market is the one delivery service I cannot live without. It's a one stop stop for all your delivery needs - everyone delivers food, but who delivers booze, cigarettes (if that's your thing), and Ben and Jerry's ice cream?
They're reliable (usually at my house within 30 minutes), friendly and the pizza ain't bad. Kabobs are particularly good - clearly cooked over a grill.
Can't go wrong here, thanks guys.
Yeah, yeah, another Roxie-wannabe corner store serving sandwiches--wait, they sell pizza? Well, I guess it might be worth inves--wait, they deliver? Dang, dude, why didn't you say so?
I must say, there's something that just feels so entrepreneurially satisfying about a corner store selling pizza--it's the American Dream at its finest. As you might expect, the pizza is old school and very un-gourmet (so don't expect the world's freshest veggies), but it's cheap, fast, and the cheese and crust know how to play off each other (and stick together) like they were Hepburn and Tracy.
We love Red Sea! It's a corner store, with typical corner store prices ... but they make the best pizza for the dollar, and deliver it ... late! Let me be clear: NOT the best pizza -- not by a long shot -- but a big, perfectly respectable pizza for $11 is pretty damned amazing. (Look for coupons!)
Of course, Mike is fantastically friendly, and gives the whole thing a wonderful personal touch.
5 stars is a lot, but .. we're talking about a corner store! How much better can a corner store get?
Your local corner store is usually a one stop shop of liquor and snacks that you don't usually spend more than 5 minutes in. Flash to Red Sea Market on San Jose Avenue and you find more than meets the eye.
I've been fortunate enough to meet Mike and Tony and they are the nicest guys to all of their customers who come through the door. These guys have saved the day for me whether it be a random stick of deodorant, an energy drink, or my favorite, a random late night, after happy hour slice of HOT PIZZA! There is nothing like pizza that is so hot, that the guys tell you to hold the box flat so the cheese doesn't melt off of the crust.
Thanks to the guys at Red Sea Market, my faith has been renewed about good customer service at the local corner store. Whenever I have the urge for molten hot pizza or I just need that miscellaneous grocery item, I know these guys are there for me.
I moved about a mile and a half away, so this is no longer "my corner store" but I still find myself coming back here. The good news is that they are happy to deliver to my new place! I go out of my way to hop in the car and head over to the Red Sea even now that it's not a block away from my house. Definitely worth the trip.

Red Sea is a big part of what makes New Mission Terrace a great place to live. It's a place you can… Read more »
Truly a godsend.
when i first heard there was a liquor store in my neighborhood that delivers pizza and booze until 1 A.M. i didn't believe them for a second.
then i remembered this rumor one inebriated evening and looked them up.
it was like 12:50 and i was nervous i was going to be "that guy" and was hesitant to call.
they answered with a joyous "HELLLOOO" and i asked if they we're still making pizzas and the gentleman replied with a uproarious, "Of Couursse!"
Moral of the story, 30 bones plus tip for a large deluxe pizza(which are awesome by the way, all of the pizzas i've had have been)and a 12pack -o-pabst delivered right to my door at 1A.M.
don't forget it's a convenient store so if you need ANYTHING, they will deliver it to you.
i.e.
toilet paper
cigarettes
duct tape
you get it...
Red Sea Market is an asset to the neighborhood.
I've seen it change over several times, I hope these are here to stay.
They do have everything you could possibly want and need.
They added a full service pizza department, which is really good.
Their beer selection is top notch.
Good prices too.
I stop by everyday!
Oh Red Sea, you friendly little corner market, you.
This is right across the street from me. If you need a common grocery item, this place has it. It has a surprisingly comprehensive selection for such a seemingly small store.
It's pretty much always the same guy running the front counter, and like others have said, he's a nice fellow who really knows the neighborhood.
And thank goodness for this place when it's past midnight and I feel like having a slice of pizza or something. Pizza's irresistibility doesn't follow a 9-5 schedule, nor does Red Sea.
Thanks for the snacks, the drinks, and other occasional random item.
good sandwhich. Nice guys. close to my house. Mission Terrace, I'm home! Bring me a sandwhich and a beer! that deserves and upgrade.
It's 10:15pm on a rainy Saturday night. I'm in my jammies, sitting in front of a roaring fire on my reclining couch, next to my boyfriend, with a computer and purring cat on my lap. In other words, I'm not going anywhere for a while.
We had a delicious home cooked meal about an hour ago, and now I want dessert. I call up Red Sea. The sweet-sweet man on the line graciously reads me every single flavor of Ben and Jerry's and Haagen Daz in the case. I select Karmel Sutra and Triple Chocolate, with a large bottle of frozen Baily's Irish Cream, nature's perfect ice cream topping -- and with some Kettle Chips for tomorrow! He takes my credit card order and I sit in the recliner waiting for the door bell to ring.
Red Sea is the fucking bomb! They deliver killer pizza, deli items, and ANYTHING IN THEIR CORNER STORE until 1am, any night of the week. Free delivery for orders over $15 --and they're fast too.
Yeah, life is good.
Red Sea got EVERYTHING and with FREE DELIVERY? Whoa... how can you beat that?
EVERYTHING means EVERYTHING!!
Recent order:
- TP (tissue paper)
- Ben and Jerry surprise us ice cream
- Pizza
- Wings
- Large bottles of water
- uhh, mike, do you have ginger? YES?? OK, can we have ONE ginger please.
Their "special cheese" pizza is OFF THE HOOK!! Their sandwiches are above standard.
Free delivery for grocery and hot food, seriously... I wish there are more Red Sea around.
I love this place. They will deliver anything in the store ($15 minimum) and their pizzas are fantastic. They are unfailingly nice and even gave my girl's little nephew a free candy bar just for the hell of it.
edit (4/19/08):: Can I somehow give these people 10 stars? Based on my fellow yelpers, there is some debate about the quality of the pizza. This is not deep-dish gourmet Zachary's. Fair enough, I've liked mine, but you might not.
BE THAT AS IT MAY, this is a small business dedicated to its customers. AAAAND, they are a liquor store that delivers! Call them, tell them what you need, If my experience is any evidence, Mike will make every effort to get it to you!
The local stores in this neighborhood typically range from life-threatening to merely uncomfortable. But Red Sea, wither by way of delivery or being there in person, presents as pleasant a shopping experience as you could ask for. In the year and a half I've lived in this neighborhood, Red Sea Market has delivered emergency cold medicine, countless duraflames, innumerable bottles of well-priced pinot noir, and, above all, transmitted the owner's massive smile through simple copper telephone wires in a way that makes you remember that, no matter how close to Daly City you may be, you are still in San Francisco.
I feel like Red Sea Market gets overlooked by most because Roxie's is near by. The place is a liquor store/pizza joint. They even have Mediterranean food, I like the hummus. The people that work there are very nice, they like to strike conversations with you and joke around. The pizza is pretty good too. I got like a x-large pepperoni pizza for less than 20 bucks. The one thing that makes this place special, and has already been mention on here, is that Red Sea Market will deliver anything you want from the store as long as the purchase is around 10 and up for free. If you are feeling a little lazy you can order a pizza, a bag of chips, a candy bar, 12 pack, a bottle of Jack, or even a pack of cigarettes delivered to your house. Talk about convenience!
Reminds me of a corner store in New york city. You walk in and you'll already feel that this aint your regular run of the mill corner store. Facade aint much but the cashier is cool and the freakn pizzas are the bomb. I highly recommend the 1/2 greek, 1/2 san jose pizza. Awesome to have a place like this a block from your house.
Pizza tastes great. However, it's the greasiest pizza i've ever had. It ruined my cousins bed; the oil literally dripped into the corner of the box and soaked my cousins bed sheets and soaked his mattress as well.
This market is cool though because you can buy anything (at least $15) worth of goods and they will deliver it to you!
I ordered an all meat pizza and a new toothbrush.
I don't think I'd ever had Corner Store Envy until I went to the Red Sea Market. I've got a friend who lives a few blocks over & we had to stock up on energy beverages, candy & sunflower seeds for an epic road trip southward. Not only were they affordable, but the clerks were talkative (& hilarious, at that). I ordered up a slice of pizza (not bad...not bad at all) as well.
One of the better corner markets I've hit up in this town.
What to say about Redsea? Well for starters, my room mates and I order there so much that they know us by address. The great thing about this place is it's pizza. It's in my top three, and a great deal. I suggest the large 2 topping for 11.95. (pepperoni or sausage and bell pepper is my fav.)
The other great thing about Red Sea is, being a liquor store after all, they will deliver anything else they have in stock straight to your door! Ben and Jerry's? You got it! Drinks? Why not? Need a guy whacked? Well, for the right price who knows?!? and the J line stops right in front of it if you'd like to visit. Try it!
I grew up in Oakland, so corner markets were something I always tried to avoid, otherwise the "homies on the corner" would swoop around like vultures and it would be an unbelievable hassle to just purchase a stick of Juicy Fruit.
It took me a good four months after moving into the neighborhood to step into this place, but one night I was aching for a juice bar (ok, I lie, a juice bar and a glass of red wine) and didn't feel wasting my life away in a Safeway line or driving all the way to Trader Joe's.
The store is clean, organized and shelves enough items that I can put together a rather healthy, enjoyable meal on only items bought from their shelves. The dudes that either own or work there are my homies yo! They're incredibly nice and incredibly sweet. They remember you, they make conversation and are truly appreciative of your business. There is one dude that's kinda on the cute side and generally only feels I'm "deemed" worthy of conversation when I''m dressed up returning from the bar or a party. If I'm in my sweats and have my hair piled atop my head he barely speaks one word to me and nearly throws my change in my direction. Kinda odd... but whatever. You're not THAT cute dude...
Oops... I digress. The fact that within the market is a pizza shop that also delivers (with decent pies and sandwiches) adds to the little market's appeal. There isn't inappropriately loud music blaring or peeps on the corner smokin' spliffs (side note - I went to the market just down the street one day and I felt like I had stepped into a bad F. Gary Gray film. Some girl with a side ponytail was literally blowing bubble gum bubbles while "conversatin'" with the dude behind the counter who was reciting every word to the ultra loud rap music that was playing. There were glamour shot photos of countless numbers lining the walls and I swear I smelled that "sticky stuff" in the air. Needless to say I haven't returned). At Red Seat Market there are actually beautiful flowers, fruits and veggies lining the outside of the store. There's even a nice little bench to sit to await your pizza order.
Yay to the corner market!!
Red Sea market is the bomb. We need more of those kind of store in every neighborhood. Affordable price, convenient, and of course there is Mike, the owner of the store -- he is cool, down to earth, very friendly and likes to talk jokes with his customers. He thinks he is funny but some of his jokes are pretty cheesy..Shuu don't tell him that. :)
Great for a corner store, they have a surprising selection of items for such a tiny place. Tony does a better job than Roxie of moving stock, so you won't find too many dust-crusted things laying on the shelves. He and Mike are great guys and do a good job of controlling undesirables that tend to congregate around stores selling booze, especially at night. They are a credit to the neighborhood.
The secret here is their middle eastern food, although I suppose the store name gives the game away. Great hummus, good dolmas and falafel. Great tabbouleh when they have it.
The sandwiches are just fine; the chicken skewers are good too although I'd prefer middle eastern grilling to the barbecue type that they have.
The pizza is good, probably the best in the neighborhood (including Glen Park and Geneva). I live nearby so I don't use their delivery and can't comment on speediness. BUT they will also deliver any groceries, so it could be handy particularly if you have kids or somehow pinned down at home to have whatever you need brought in at the same time, or to satisfy someone who doesn't want pizza.
San Francisco would be a much better place if it had more stores like Red Sea. Not just corner stores, any store! Friendly service, pleasant atmosphere, clean and well lit. They also have pretty good pizza on top of all that!
Red Sea is the best market in the city hands down! Where else can you get great pizza and sandwiches with anything you want on it for such low prices. You can order anything in the store from food to candy to beer and they'll bring it to you in a hurry. The owner, Mike, is a totally cool down to earth guy who's always crackin jokes with customers and is very helpful. Amazing place to go any day, any time.
Great neighborhood market. Mike and Tony know everyone by name who shops there. And yes, Mike insults everyone to their face, including Tony. Huge selection of items for such a small store. Great beer and wine assortment. The pizzeria and deli is excellent, fast and convenient.. Three employees at one time were named Mohammed, which made it kind of funny when somebody asked for Mohammed.
Red Sea and the Roxie Market make our neighborhood extra rad. Mike, who works there is always friendly and accommodating. They deliver everything for free. While my husband was on tour, I'd just call up and order a bottle of champagne with my pizza to share with my girlfriends. Perfy. Also, they are open late, so if you have a midnight emergency need for tampons, kebabs, incense and some aspirin, you'll be in luck.
this is the best market in the neighborhood. everyone that works there is dope and super nice and helpful. if i was short 50 cents or whatever they would just say give to me next time. its not way over priced. and if you go there you have to get the chicken kabob its so good. its smokey tasting and only 2.50.
